Received 2 calls from an "Unavailable" number. Answered the second time and they said they were trying to locate me. Once I asked who this was and what it was regarding, they gave me file number and the phone number 866-205-9638. Called the number and it was BRG which the guy on the line said it was an "asset recovery company".

BRG Collections is located in Covington GA according to Google. Believe they are using several 866 call back numbers I have received 20+ calls this week from a "restricted number" all with the threatening message final action verify etc. etc. Satellite image of address shows a large two story office building with many offices. Several law firms listed in building. Sounds like a scam to me.

I just started receiving threaten calls from this company.  The number that was left on my answering machine 1-866-310-6429 with a file number.  When you call no one answers.  It says thank you for calling BRG.  The research I've done this company doesn't exist. The message that's left on my answering machine says I have a claim against me.  Which I don't.  Guy's name is Jack Prescott.  Second call was little more threatening. I'm fixing to file complaint.  Don't fall for this.  It is SCAM.

How can I verify whether or not a debt collector is legitimate?
Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:

The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.

The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.

The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.

The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.

Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
    The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.

Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
    Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
    Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.

Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.

Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).

received a call on the home phone looking for someone I don't know. when I asked what company was calling, because the woman was nasty, she got even nastier and said "it doesn't matter!" I hung up on her and 2 minutes later she called my cell phone looking for the same person ... this time I did not say I didn't know who the person was and I was given a case number for an "urgent package that needs to be delivered." when the woman asked me if the phone number she had for the person was correct I told her "I don't know because I don't know the individual!" She was pissed and screamed you don't know her!? I said no and hung up. whoever the company is at 866-578-7536 is on the edge of harassment! called number and message was for "BRG

Yes, from a private # and if I don't answer they repeatedly called back three times back to back.  There is no way they redial it manually they have to hit a redial and just keep doing it.  After their multiple attempts they called my cell phone and then did the same thing.  When I didn't answer that one they called my husband's cell and did the same thing.  Very harassing.  Saying they are going to start calling my references to verify my address and my employers address to take further action against me.  The # they left for me to call was 9866)567-2269 and left a case #.

I got a call from a toll free number stating that were having trouble delivering a package to me. When I stated that I wasn't expecting a package, the caller got very rude and obnoxious, then he hung up. Almost immediately I started getting calls back to back. I didn't answer any of the back to back calls. After about 15 minutes of this, they finally stopped. By the way caller said his name was Michael Roberts. He is using these two toll free numbers, (866-577-9125) and (866-567-2269 ext #306). Asked them for their business license numbed, and he got rude, started hollering and hung up. If you get a call from either number, they will probably act the same towards you. Block the two numbers I have in this comment.

    8/5/15:
Over the last two days I have received more than 8 calls (back to back to back) from BRG the phone number they leave on my voice mail is 866-821-3124.  When you call back they answer BRG and then immediately put you on hold and the keep transferring your call.  Today after 4 back to back calls a man by the name of Ed Rose left a voice mail stating "this is my only and final call to you to resolve this matter before a claim is filed" The phone number was blocked... and they referred to me by my maiden name, SO I KNOW THIS IS BS... I haven't used that name in YEARS.....  The lady that called yesterday and left a voicemail also said "this is my only and final call to you to resolve this matter before a claim is filed" - she recited by address by phone and said we know where you live.

Same thing with me... they called and left messaged on my work, and home voice mail as well as my Human Resource Manager's voicemail. Now the State's Attorney is involved. It's so insane that they think they'll get away with it. I called them non stop to annoy them. They blocked my home, and two cells!! I get a recording saying the number is disconnecting if I use those phones. If I call from another line it goes right through!

Been seeing calls from an Unknown name on my home phone. Today they left a threatening message. Called back with the file number and the rude lady on the other side stated that I did not repay a Cash Advanced loan from 3/11. They had a lot of my information which really scares me. I tried to talk to her to clarify the matter but they were not interested in listening to me. She put me through to a supervisor who was even rudder,  kept telling me that me gathering information would not help anything that if I did not pay today this would move forward. I told him that I would be glad to go to court and proof this was wrong, told me good luck in court and hung up.
