- PITA CALLSDo not call list is a hoax too as they sell your number. Does no good to push 1 as they do not even bother once they have your number they will keep bugging you. Do not answer if you have caller ID and do not know the person. Wish they would bomb all of these idiots out of space.
- Mikey| 2 repliesOk, first off, DO NOT LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO SAY DO NOT ANSWER! That is, unless you don't mind the call after call after call. It cost them NOTHING (other than electricity for their computers) to make the calls.
What cost them money is TIME. Time that their phone line spends 'off hook' with you because they can't be calling someone else. And best of all, time wasted when one of their flunkies actually gets on the phone to talk to you.
So, you don't like this? You don't like the calls? THEN MAKE IT UNPROFITABLE to call you. WASTE THEIR TIME! Tie up their computers by ansering the phone. Always hit '1' to speak to a live person. Keep them on the phone. Heck, if nothing else put you phone on speakerphone and set the phone down in front of the TV speaker.
And if you are lucky enough to get a live person, consider them fair game for any and every prank you can pull. - MidNYteStorm replies to MikeyPeople should not answer call from numbers ir companies that aren't familiar with.
- EstherD replies to MikeyMostly I agree with you. Except for one point -- While it is true that not answering DOES NOT STOP the calls, not answering DOES REDUCE THE NUMBER AND FREQUENCY of calls. Numbers that ANSWER have a VALUE; therefore, those numbers are collected, sold and traded among the fraudsters, just like email addresses among the spammers. You do NOT want your number to appear on one of these lists of "easy" targets, and the ONLY way to insure that is by NOT ANSWERING the scam calls.
We used to get 2-3 calls a day. I tried Mikey's strategy for awhile; things actually got WORSE. Then I instructed everyone in the family NOT to answer ANY unknown calls. After a few months, the calls got less and less frequent. Now we're down to 2-3 a week, and some weeks NO CALLS AT ALL.
SO JUST STOP ANSWERING! Things WILL get better.
And, if you don't want the ringing, then spend a few bucks and get a phone or device or service that allows you to block the calls, or at least to assign a "silent" ringtone. (I use the "silent" ringtone strategy, rather than actually blocking them completely, because I want a RECORD of the calls, even if I don't answer them.)
Sadly, the fraudsters understand this. So numbers are rarely used more than once these days. That makes ANY blacklisting strategy ineffective. What's actually needed is WHITELISTING -- a device that passes ONLY those numbers you specify, and blocks all the rest. Until I can find one, I'll continue to ignore the first call, and add the number to my phone's "silent ring" list. Why? Because there ARE repeat callers (like THIS number), and that strategy works pretty well on those. - LAN| 1 replyMessage was "Do I have a mortgage with Fanny Mae or Freddy Mac?"

- JanP4 replies to Sharon McFarlandIf you don't accept these kind of calls why did you answer? I just let them ring and come hee to find out who it may have been.
- JanP4 replies to BarbaraBarbara, that is such good advice...thank you
- tom replies to john j.I got the same call today.
- mustangusaI get them to but I block them (Mine blocks 250 calls)
Also if I notice that they call a lot I just turn the phone on and don't say a thing at all
just let it sit there until I hear the dial tone again.
Hang up
This seems to work because I don't get the calls anymore- Caller: Unavailable
- Billz replies to LANYeah, same nonsense at my home...some attempt at a mtg scam.
- First City replies to fed upCheck at Sam's or Walmart for one of the Panasonic wireless phones that will block 250 unwanted callers.
- CarolynDon't want thses calls to continue. They are harrassing us almost daily.
- BrianCalling daily now. I can only hear about 10 seconds at the end after my machine has answered and the voice asks about investor rights and wants just a minute of my time. No idea about the beginning part of the message. Does anyone know what this actual scam is? You call back the number and it is some export company so the number is clearly spoofed in this case.

- Jim H. replies to Sharon McFarlandI also called back and pressed "1" to be taken off the list. Since then I have been called 3 times. I've never picked up on any of their previous calls. I'm buying an air horn at Walmart tomorrow.
- bm replies to Barbaralucky i made my machine do a one millisecond pause, and then hang up :))
- moodymaxMy husband and I have been receiving calls from this number with the latest one being on Mar 15, 2014 at 12:34 p.m. We don't answer any calls unless we recognize the number, so I came to this site to find out who we're dealing with. Now that I know I will file a complaint here and on the NC DNC registry site. Then I'm going to file a complaint with the National DNC registry site and on the Federal Trade Commission site. Their sites specifically say that if you tell these companies to put you on their DNC list, they must comply. If they don't, then these organizations can and will investigate them and take appropriate actions. Someone has to do something with this company because if you've requested to be put on their DNC list and they start calling you even more, this is harassment.
- Caller: not sure, since we don't answer
