- LIZZStop the madness. These people bought accounts from someone else for $25.00. While they try to collect $500.00 or more. Horrible people!

- MaggieI received these same calls all the time; my home phone is forwarded to my cell phone and so I finally sent back a text message that they are to identify themselves and leave a voice message - otherwise they are to cease calling immediately and they are to remove my number from their call list. This worked for two other anonymous numbers that called me several times a day. After looking up the area codes, I knew I had absolutely no business or connections with anyone in Canada or New Jersey, or Utah, etc., so I know those were bogus calls too, and I sent the same text messages to those numbers. I think it helps to request that these anonymous callers to cease calling in writing via text message and have it on record with the phone company.
- lel410 replies to LJ is a Dead BeatLJ is absolutely correct. The Statutes of Limitations are in place to prevent these bloodsuckers from their routine harassment efforts. As for the nasty reply made by "LJ is a deadbeat," I can only say that it is apparent you are one of the nasty debt collectors, with nothing more to do than troll the internet to see what people are saying about your company. Furthermore, every violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is something for which you derelicts can be sued. So I say, go ahead, keep up the violations. These revolting debt collectors will NEVER win a suit on that violation.

- DanTo the type of person who agrees with the attack on LJ's statute of limitations. Yes, those laws are in place for good reason, and they ARE THE LAW. Yet scummy disreputable collectors who continually buy "old" debt for pennies attempt to collect in violation of the LAW and even will sue and get a judgment on you regardless of statute of limitation laws if you do not dispute the lawsuit. These collectors should be subject to the laws of each state and pleading ignorance is no excuse. I have yet to see a judge have sympathy with that argument. The elderly and disabled are left wide open to scamming because of the almost non-existent enforcement of collection laws. And, to all you proclaim how you pay your debts and preach to everybody to do the same with these collectors......how would you like a collector to bring up a twenty year old debt you have paid and threaten you to pay it and you had paid it? Do you have "proof" you paid it? That has happened to me. So, the statute of limitations is there for good reason. Doesn't anyone find it interesting that the debt collection industry has been lobbying Congress to "federalize" the collection laws of each state because they are too confusing and vague to the consumer... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? People, get a clue. The majority of these collectors are no better than the mafia looking for an easy buck and they flagrantly violate the state and federal collection laws......I don't need to remind everyone what a joke the federal NO CALL list is......has anyone had any luck getting someone to stop calling using the law. And don't you find it convenient that people have posted here that the law doesn't cover debt collector calls even when the debt is not yours. What is totally unbelievable to me is that a creditor/bill collector can call you about your neighbor's debt. I could go with this forever. Point is that everyone should be subject to the laws and such disregard for the law as these collectors have is totally unacceptable.

- WKThis is nothing more than a scam that started in India and China. They try to harass you into paying money to stop the harassment.
They don't have to abide by the Federal law of this country because they originate in India by voice over IP numbers.
Do Not give them any information. If they have your last 4 of your social - and I'm about 99.99% sure that's all they have, don't give them the rest of it.
If they are calling your cellphone, get a call blocker and block the numbers.
This has been going on for several years now. - Amazing replies to LJ is a Dead BeatUsury rates, unlawful scams, predatory lending, inflating credit scores, anything to make a dime. It amazes me how your industry demands to be unscathed by the crippling recession it caused.

- The-Nine replies to readerGoogle for a cease and desist letter. There are plenty of links in other threads on this forum. If you send them a cease and desist letter and request validation of the debt they have to stop collection activities (including calls) while they are waiting for their client to validate the debt. And if they fail to validate it, they must close the account and return it to their client as disputed. That should put an end to it. And if all all else fails, find a lawyer and sue them for violations of the FDCPA.
