I got a call from this scam operation before, though I don't recall if it was the same number.  They called @ 8:06 am E.S.T. and claimed to be from the "tax audit department" of the IRS.  They said they a warrant of some kind was issued for my arrest and before it went further, they asked if I had an attorney "with me."  This was so comical because (a) I am of Indian decent (born in the USA) and the called had a heavy Indian accent, (b) I am current in my taxes and know how the IRS operates, and (c) I am an attorney.  So I said "yes, I have an attorney."  They asked for the person's name and number and I said "it's me.  You are talking to an attorney.  I am an attorney."  All the guy said was "oh" and hung up.

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you’ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

I googled facebook's phone number and I got 866-307-7745. They installed malware on my computer and took out a lot of problems. They wanted $300.00 and I gave them my debit card to take out the money on the 26 of March. Today I googled the number because I had a bad feeling about this. It is a scam. I spoke to Alex.

This is interesting I was called from 866-307-7745, and was told my gmail account was being used to spam porn, so do they really know what kind of business scam they're running? At least they should get the MO straight. Oh and since when does a parent in India have a last name of Miller and name their daughter Susan? LOL, LOL - I called them on a weekend and I get a vmail saying  "Thank you for calling technical support" and then it hangs up.

    Not Fooled
I wouldn't call this a "Sophisticated Scam."  For one, they answer a lot quicker than any government agency - that's a dead give away.  Two, they lack call center skills, so you know it's not the IRS at all.

I called back about five times, just to tie them up.  The last time, I asked for a person by name: "Yes, I'm calling for Scam,"  The idiot said, "This is Scam."  I asked, "Scam Artist?"  He said, "Yes."  So I said, "You're Scam Artist?  Well, at least you admit it.  This was fun.  Bye."

I just received the same call right now. I asked him to give me some information about myself and he could not. When I told him that I was married during the time I was supposedly being audited for and why wasn't my ex-husband being audited too, he became angry and told me that I will see that he had the right person when the police come to arrest me.  LOL!! Unbelievable!!

This number called me and was the man on the phone was very threatening. They said the police were on their way to arrest me unless I paid in full immediately. They were very aggressive. I asked to speak to a supervisor o set up a payment plan. I was told the supervisor would call me back. My husband reminded me the IRS would not callus. When the "supervisor" called me back he told me the police were on their way. I had googled the number they called from and the information said they were a scam. The man spoke poor English and threatened me again with arrest. I told him never call back and then hung up. He called me back and said to expect the police at my door.

Got a call from this number stating he was an IRS tax auditor and they had audited my taxes for the years 2002 to 2012. He then proceeded to tell me that I owed $2278.00. I told him that there was no way that we owed. Then apparently we got disconnected. I called back then was told that I owed $3931.00 and that the IRS was sueing me for fraud and if I didn't pay I would face jail time and a fine of $95000.00. Then when I started asking questions we were "disconnected" again. So, I called back. I was then told my fine was $195000.00 and since I was rude and disrespectful and kept hanging up they were signing the warrent for my arrest. He got very mean and nasty on the phone and hung up on me. Oh but wait . . . maybe we just got disconnected. Lol what a joke.

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

I just got the same call and let it go to voicemail.  I almost had a heart attack.  I went straight to GOOGLE and entered the number 866-307-7745 and sure enough (this has happened to me before but with a (PAY DAY LOAN COMPANY!)  Anyway the message on my voicemail was automated and said I was in default with the IRS and to call 866-307-7745.  I called the number and a guy said my name and asked if I had a criminal attorney because he has a warrant out for my arrest for Tax Fraud and I was going to be arrested in 30 minutes?  I just hung up and immediately blocked the number.

I received 2 automated phone calls today. The caller ID said China so I didn't answer because there is no reason someone would be calling me from there. The voice mail that was left said I was in debt to the irs and I had to call them or face lens on my property and bank accounts. I am tempted to call back just to mess with them but I also have better things to do with my day.
