- JohnAB1| 1 replyJust got a call from this place. They call about 2 times per week. The only message they leave is someone saying "hello". This is a pointless way to collect debts. I do not owe anyone anything, so this is all bogus. Apparently, there is no way to stop this. So.... we just do not ever answer our home phone anymore. We have voice mail, which screens all our calls. If all of us didn't answer our phones, then these random calls would stop.
If a collection agency is going after a valid debt, then they will contact you through the mail.
Also, a word to the wise, each state has a statute of limitations on how old a debt can be before it is written off and uncollectible. In my state, it is 3 years. In other words, if you go 3 years without paying anything toward your debt, then it is written off. In some states, the statute of limitations is longer. So, check this out online for your own circumstances. Things like judgments, liens and overdue child support don't follow the same rules.- Caller: Unknown

- Dani replies to George| 4 repliesI am fourteen years old and have recently gotten a phone in my fathers name (with his permission of course) and now i am getting calls from these people, it is always when i am away from my phone or unable to answer...i don't know what to do
- miker replies to Dani| 2 repliesDani, The phone number you got was recently owned by a person who has a lot of debts. It's the number the debt collector has on file. Debt collectors don't care about no-call lists because they can claim a "prior business association." They will continue to call and harass you with automatic dialing equipment because they have nothing to lose. A small percentage of debtors get tired of the harassment and that's how the debt collectors make their living. You can buy software that blocks calls, or little in-line interceptors that fool the automatic dialers, etc. Frankly, the easiest way to stop those calls is to get a new number. The phone company will usually do it for free, at least once. Make sure you ask them to give you a number that has not changed hands a lot. Good luck.
- BettyThis call came in early this morning, when I answered, no response. I called the number back and someone named Gene said they were looking for <name> This person happen to be a foster child that was in my car 30 years ago!!!! They have called repeatedly and was told each time that response. This time I told Gene that I was going to report them and again to remove my number from their calling list. How many times does one have to repeat this before they get it! Lordy but I hate telemarketers!!

- Betty replies to JohnAB1Caller ID is absolutely wonderful!!!! We don't answer any calls that we don't reconize, if it is someone we know they can leave a message or call back hehe
- LarrySimple. Its hard to report them to the FTC because they will not do anything to help us out, so get a GOOD coaches whistle and when you call them back use *67 then call the number 866-310-3882 and use the whistle on the person that answers. I don’t use *67 and don’t care what they do because what will they do? You may want to think twice if you do owe them money but I don’t. Back in October I got a new phone number and the fools are calling here asking for a Cathy B and I would keep telling that there is no Cathy so its whistle time. These SOBs won’t stop calling so blow out their eardrums one at a time.

- DebThis number called me but ended up wrong number later on I looked at my phone and automatically my phone was calling this number, I do not know if this is because of the new digital technology, but something seems peculiar about this happening.

- aristurtleGot a free account with www.youmail.com for my cell phone (also works for land line), it's wonderful for stuff like this and if you want to just change your voicemail greeting or customize greetings for individual callers. You just enter the phone number and choose your greeting. It's a stiff competitor for paid voicemail with the phone company.
They have something called "ditchmail" with ditches a call, which means that it plays a greeting and disconnects before the caller can leave a message. They have the "number disconnected" greeting complete with the tones which, I believe, signals the robo-dialer that your number is not valid and takes it off their list. It was also a saving grace for pesky political calls, exes, etc.
Another cool feature is that you can be notified by either email or text msg on your phone. With the email option, you can listen to your messages online, thus saving minutes on your cell. You can also archive your messages indefinitely (the phone company would have ditched my messages after 2 weeks) and, for an additional small fee, there's an option to transcribe your calls. So, you can pick how you want your evidence if you ever need it for trial ... <evil grin>!! And, the regular service is FREE so don't pay the phone company for your land line's voicemail.
Learned about youmail when I was looking up another nuisance caller and one of these messages mentioned about this ditchmail. Thank you, whoever you are!!!
PS: My cell phone has lousy caller ID but youmail's text msg on my cell said "Allied Interstate Scam." Apparently, someone else reported Allied as a "scam." hehehe- Caller: ALLIED INTERSTATE SCAM
