This is legitimate. They are a billing office for Providence AND Swedish Hospitals so they cover A LOT of hospitals to say the least.  They ask for your info to PROTECT your medical information (thank goodness). I'd be pretty pissed if they didn't make sure it was ME talking to them about MY medical info. You people that are freaking out about that need to calm down, really. They were trying to help me with a bill I owed because my husband lost his job almost 10 months ago and we still have hardly any income. They offered me payments and even a charity program! Kudos to you guys Providence ...nothing but great things to say.

MY NAME IS MELISSA AND I WORK FOR PATIENT BILLING.  WE CALL FOR PROVIDENCE AND SWEDISH PATIENTS.  THE REASON OUR AUTOMATED MESSAGE IS SO GENERAL IS WE BILL FOR 18 DIFFERENT HOSPITALS.  THE AUTO DIALER DOES NOT KNOW WHICH FACILITY IT IS CALLING OUT FOR.  I.E. THE GENERALIZED "PATIENT ACCOUNTS" THE NUMBERS FOR BILLING FOR ALL OUR FACILITIES START OUT 866- HIPAA IS SOMETHING WE ARE REQUIRED BY LAW TO VERIFY.  USUALLY WE ASK FOR NM DOB AND SSN.  IF YOU ARE EVER IN DOUBT ABOUT THE LEGITIMACY OF THE CALL, YOU MAY CONTACT SWEDISH DIRECTLY FROM THE PHONE BOOK OR YOUR OWN BILLING.  THEY WILL ASK YOU THE SAME QUESTIONS. BUT YOU WILL FEEL MORE SECURE ABOUT WHO YOU ARE TALKING TO.  HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE.

Mike replies to On the generic message:
I am familiar with HIPPA and I understand that privacy and confidentiality is a concern. But MY privacy and the confidentiality of my personal information is my top concern. It is highly inappropriate and completely irresponsible for any entity to call and leave an anonymous, ambiguous message asking for a call back, then when one gives them the courtesy of calling back, to expect the caller to verify their identity  by providing highly confidential information--such as one's social security number--to a complete stranger over the telephone.

we get called all the time from this number, and when they leave a message, it is an automated voice sayong "2-1-1.They call constantly and it is annoying.I haven't been able to find out if it is linked to our Providence Bill. We are both employed by Providence,so it seems that there would be a better way of communicating.Does anyone know how to block the caller?

ok here is the deal..I called the 18663652211 number and immediatly
got a live person to talk to.They represent in my case, based on my phone number,Providence Billing Center. The 866 number is an automated call system, and he told me that if I hold after I answer the call, that the proper representative will answer the call.I told him that it wasn't my job to hold when they were the ones calling me.I requested that he remove my number from the automated call list, and he said he would do that..we shall see. In the meantime, I will deal with the legitimate
    number on my bill.

The worst - continue to call for over 6 weeks 4 times a day at my work number.  It is automated and when calling back there is just automation.  The funniest thing is I owe them NO money since they provided such poor service I contested the bill when it was sent in the first place.  Swedish billing is just one of the worst organization's ever.  I hope that this health care bill just puts these people out of business!

Typical - all caps = YELLING/SCREAMING in computerland.  Typical of people who work at this area; no decency with any of them.

What i don't understand is that I got a call, the voicemail says what everyone else heard. I wrote down the number and decided to deal with it later. They calle again just now, I answered with a hello, no respense, waited and then hung up.  decided to call the number they had left me before. A man answered very muffled. I asked who this was and he said something along the lines of "Paul"   maybe he said providence.  I explained what happened and he said something along the lines of me having the wrong number. So I checked my phone call and it was the right number... so I don't know.

But I went to St. Peters for Strep throat once and apparently my bill was paid by my insurance so, I'm not sure whats going on.

I am also an employee...The program used at Providence to keep track of our patient's billing requires the use of all CAPS. Therefore we get in the habit of typing all day with them.  The intention of the comment above was in no way showing a nature of "yelling" it was to help those other's commenting understand the nature of the calls.

We have received multiple calls from this number over the past 2 weeks.  Call me paranoid, but there are too many scams out there not to be suspicious.  Also, couldn't the people writing in on this forum saying its a legit number be part of the scam connected with this number?  We received 2 message with no identification, just asking us to call back "the billing department".  Once I answered the call the woman on the phone would not give me any information about what kind of bill it was (apart from a medical bill) and said to obtain further information I would have to give my personal information.  Most medical billing situations will try to collect through the mail or pass to a collection agency, so I don't know why a huge facility like Swedish would set up a vague and suspicious system to try to get bills paid.

I got the same message as several other people “Hello, this is the patients accounts billing office calling.  At your earliest convenience please contact us at 1-866-365-2211.  Once again, this the patient accounts billing office calling.  At your earliest convenience, please call the patient accounts billing office at 1-866-365-2211.”  The call showed up as 425-988-6412 on my cell phone.  I got the same message 2 weeks ago and didn't respond after googleing both the 425 number and the 866 number.  Today I got them same message, this time I called back from my work phone, I got a recording letting me know that I would need to verify my information before discussing any account info, they also said I could enter a reference number from the midsection of my bill (I never got a bill!), or I could press 0# for a representative.  I pushed 0# and the line went dead.

I am a swedish patient, and have no balance and once worked at Sacred Heart... I never got to a point where they told me where the bill was from, I don't plan on trying again.

    Car Accident Patient
This is a legitimate call. I have been visiting Swedish Medical Center for a variety of treatments associated with a car accident. I figure this must apply to my billing as there are multiple insurance companies involved in my claim.

When I called, they asked for my phone number. Once they had my number, they told me that were calling for "[my name]". I confirmed I was that person. They asked for birthdate and mailing address. Once she had that information she was able to tell me everything about my account.

Of course, before I gave her my birthdate and mailing address, I spoke in general terms about my visits to Swedish and such. That may be why she was able to fore go asking for my social. I was just specific enough for her to know that 1) I was who they were calling for and 2) I did NOT want to give out any more personal information.

For those of you who have not had treatments at Swedish or Providence, I'm sure when you give them your number, you can let them know that you are NOT the person they are calling for. That should end their incessant calls. Also, the operator I spoke to was very reasonable about my privacy concerns and didn't push for me to disclose anything I wasn't comfortable telling her.

I've received this call numerous times and I've never answered it.  I don't answer callers that don't identify themselves, especially 800 numbers.  Why don't they at least put their company name on caller ID?   I don't care how many hospitals they work for.

The voice on my answering machine is garbled and nearly unintelligible.  We had to listen to it four times to understand it, very unprofessional.

I have a balance due at Providence of $36.   I intend to pay it just as I always do.  I plan to call their billing dept. when I get the chance and ask them what they know about this 'phantom caller'. Also I want to call the phone company and complain.   If this harassment is legit they better hire a different company to contact us.  These calls are nothing but annoying.

Got the same message, no info as to who is calling.  I'm not going to call them back.  If it is Swedish or Providence, they have my address.  I'm the only person that has *ever* had the phone number that was called, I've had it 16 years.  In fact, only my husband has had treatment there, not me.  If it is legitimate it is so poorly done they don't deserve a call back.

I got the same automated message from this number that others have mentioned. I had just received my Swedish bill in the mail the day before and it was not yet due. I called the number back and talked to a real person. The reason to their call: they just wanted me to know that if I pay my bill within 30 days, I get 10% off of the amount. Was there really no better way of communicating this to me??

We have been getting  calls from this number asking us to call back. When I answer the phone before their recorded message starts, there is silence. So far, it has been a nuisance.

I also believe this to be legitimate, but I resent their refusal to identify themselves. They  could identify themselves as being from Swedish/Providence. They called when we were out of the country ( I had my home phone forwarded) and they were calling about a bill they had sent the day after we left. We have ALWAYS paid our bills to them on time. It was exactly 30 days old when they called, and the bill was for $30. Wanted me to give them my CC number over the phone. In their dreams.Told them I would pay the bill when I got home. I did, which made it about 45 days from the day they sent it. Woman was very polite, but come on! We are not debtors to them, we've been patients for years, and it's rare that we've ever let a bill get over 30 days. So why are they hassling us over $30 that's 30 days late. Good grief.

I too received a voicemail from this very number yesterday afternoon. (I actually didn't get around to checking my voicemail until just now.)

While I do have some recent medical bills, it still seemed fishy to me so I chose to disregard the voicemail and not return their phone call.

If they do, in fact, call me again, I may pick up, however, I will not be giving them any personal information.

Patients Accounts is, indeed, the outfit hired to collect bills for many Hospitals including Swedish and Providence.  They are an aggressive biller somewhere between a bill issuer and a bill collector.   They insult a normal bill payer with phone calls beginning a few days after the bill is issued.   In my case, the first bill was messed up by Patient Accounts which they admitted.  They then called me the third day of the month on which the bill was reissued to remind me I was accountable for the bill.  After not receiving that bill either I requested a FAX of the bill.  On the 14 day of the month in question I sent them their check after receiving the FAX and, wouldn't you know it, received the bill in the mail.  On the 19th of the month, they called again (about the 8th call) wanting their money and I told them I hoped it took them as long to receive my check as it did for me to receive the bill.

Sounds like they have a good sales pitch for the Hospitals but have many internal inefficiencies.
