- SamCall a lawyer and you've got a suit against them. It's considered harassment just to call you more than once or twice and hands down you'll get a couple thousand just for proving they've been calling you so much.... then they'll stop calling you.

- NANCY| 1 replyI HAVE BEEN GETTING CALLS FROM THIS COMPANY FOR YEARS. THEY DO NOT IDENTIFY WHO IT IS THEY ARE LOOKING FOR. I CAN GUESS WHO IT PROBABLY IS BUT HOW WOULD I KNOW IF THEY DON'T SO WHO. EVEN IF IT IS THAT PERSON, IT IS NOT A PERSON WHO EVER LIVED HERE. I JUST KNOW IT IS NOT US THEY ARE LOOKING FOR. NOT ONLY HAVE WE NEVER HAD AN UNPAID BILL...EVER. YEARS AGO I TRIED RETURNING THEIR CALLS BUT ONLY GOT AN ANSWERING MACHINE WITH A RECORDED MESSAGE. I HAVE LOOKED THESE GUYS UP ONLINE. THERE ARE BLOGS THIS COMPANY HARRASSES PEOPLE TO COLLECT BOGUS DEBTS. I NO LONGER RETURN CALLS BECAUSE I AM NOT GOING TO GET INVOLOVED WITH THIS COMPANY,ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THEY PARTICIPATE IN SHADY PRACTICES, ESPECIALLY IF IT IS SOMETHING THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYONE IN THIS HOUSEHOLD. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, IF YOU HAVE BEEN ON THE NATIONAL DO NOT CALL LIST FOR 31 DAYS OR MORE, AND YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY (AS IS MY CASE) TURN THEM IN WITH A COMPLAINT TO NATIONAL DO NOT CALL. I HAVE STARTED FILING A COMPLAINT FOR EVERY LAST CALL AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO UNTIL THIS STOPS. I WILL ALSO CONTINUE LETTING EVERYONE KNOW TO GET ON THE DO NOT CALL LIST SO EVERYONE CAN FILE COMPLAINTS. I HOPE THEY GET A FINE WITH EVERY COMPLAINT. HITTING THEM IN THE POCKET SHOULD GET THROUGH TO THEM.
- Sara replies to Jessica| 1 replyI thought that after 7 years they couldn't claim it as a debt anymore and have to take it as a write off?
- MM replies to NANCYThat's depressing... that they have been calling you for years. They've been calling me for weeks; leaving messages that are vague; don't say who they are calling. My guess is it goes back two years to a medical device company that charged me $200 for equipment that I had already returned. My insurance company wouldn't pay the charge. Even though I had proof that I returned the "equipment"--two small portable oxygen tanks--the company wouldn't give up. I filed a complaint with the BBB. I think the company sold the non-existent uncollectible, and Transworld Systems is the latest owner.
- Vinny replies to SaraJessica,
Of course, there are time limites like you say but they will keep calling forever because if they can get you to send them a check, they will cash it. - ROBERT FLEMMINGI GET A CALL FROM 8663819807 EVERY MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY, AND QUITE OFTEN SUNDAY EARLY MORNING. THE CALLER (AUTOMATED) SAYS IT'S EAST COAST STD TIME (EST).
IT ASKS IF I AM WHO I AM, AND TO PUSH "1" IF SO.
IT IS OBVIOUSLY A DEBT COLLECTOR, MY MAIN ISSUE IS THAT THERE ARE NO DEBTS ON MY CREDIT REPORTS, THAT I CANNOT SPECIFICALLY IDENTIFY AS SMALL MEDICAL BILLS THAT THE INS CO DIDN'T PAY, OR THAT I'VE ALREADY CONTACTED. I DO HAVE A BUNCH OF UNSECURED DEBTS WHICH I HAD TO DEFAULT ON,(business debt) AND WERE REPORTED IN DEFAULT WELL OVER 7 YEARS AGO AND NO LONGER SHOW ON MY CREDIT REPORT DUE TO THE FAIR CREDIT REPORTING ACT (F.C.R.A.) in the C.F.R. (U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, The RULES FOR OBSOLESCENCE is that after 7 years a creditor may no longer publicly announce the debt. BUT That doesn't mean they have to stop trying and they can still sue you and or place a lien on your property(s). If it's "PLASTIC" and they cannot produce your original signature upon a contract to pay such a debt they will lose in court, and the case will be set aside in summary judgement due to "Habius Corpus", or lack of physical evidence. BUT they can still convince a judge to attach your bank acct, paycheck, and to put a lien on your house, they can do that without doing anything more than filing some paperwork with the county recorder who's jurisdiction your house is in. it's up to you to dispute it when you try and sell your house or get a 2nd mortgage. But at least it does not affect your credit score so you do have a possibility of borrowing your way out of it since the NEW lender will have no clue that you are in debt or have defaulted. THE BEST WAY IS TO FILE BANKRUPTCY, SINCE IT ISN'T ON YOUR CREDIT REPORT IT WILL BE AN UNCONTESTED BANKRUPTCY AND GO THROUGH WITHOUT A "VALUE", WHICH WILL GO ON YOUR REPORT BUT NOBODY WILL KNOW WHY AND NO ONE CAN EVER FIND OUT WITHOUT DOING A LOT OF RESEARCH. But if you never sell your house and you have no other substantial property you needn't even file bankruptcy or admit "you" are "you" to the automated phone call. This is important because until they verify it's you at that phone number they cannot do squat. if you are disabled or retired they cannot touch your pension either. TECHNICALLY AUTOMATED DEBT COLLECTION IS ILLEGAL WITHIN ANY STATE BORDER, WHAT LETS THEM GET AWAY WITH IT IS BECAUSE THE PHONE CALL ORIGINATES OUTSIDE YOUR STATE OF RESIDENCE AND THE STATE LAWS THAT PROTECT US FROM AUTOMATED PHONE SPAM AND COLLECTIONS CANNOT BE ENFORCED OUTSIDE EACH STATES JURISDICTION. I BELIEVE ALL 50 STATES HAVE RULED AUTOMATION ILLEGAL, BUT THE FED HAS BEEN RELUCTANT TO FOLLOW WHICH IS WHY YOU GET THESE CALLS FROM TIMBUKTU.- Caller: SELF

- DaveWe are a company in Charlotte NC with an outstanding portfolio, yet this company calls at least once a week via a recording saying that we have a debt currently in collections. and then when you call back says they have no record of the number or the account... Definitely a scam don't give any information

- Rican PecanMost old debts are indeed sold out to collection agencies-- However, most banks and creditors are insured and have been compensated/have collected on the debt already... What they are doing is double dipping! Also, there is something called latches-(spelling may be wrong) and debts can and are often wiped away because of their maturity. It may take some legal wranggling but it is not impossible. However, loans such as STUDENT LOANS are not included (part of latches) and you must pay these back. Please do your research and be well informed when dealing with companies such as these...
I am getting these calls from NCO. I live in Florida and the person(s) they are attempting to reach live in NY. They are related to my husband and the next time they do call and I am at home, I will be providing them with ALL information regarding these individuals. They are sleeping easy while I am getting their harrassing calls because they are scammers and are using my address to obtain everything from PURCHASING A CAR, AUTO INSURANCE, CREDIT CARDS, ETC... I have reported this matter to numerous agencies inclusive of the financial institutions that have extended them credit and services to no avail. Their transactions are expedited via on-line but I continue to send back all correspondence that arrive in the mail for them such as insurance cards, etc... It is time for them to face the piper and pay it's fee!!- Caller: NCO

- Slider replies to Terry| 1 replyWOW. Everyone owes nothing. That's why this country has about 20,000 Collection Agency's. Everybody is innocent. Even the crooks they stall till the bill gets old. Have fun looking for a new job when your written-off credit history stood shows up on Credit-like reports you don't even knows exist. TLO has even traffic/drug/arrest info that goes back 25 yrs ago and it's all LEGAL as it goes under 'public information'. The 'party' is over these days. I suggest you make arrangements to pay your just and legal debts ASAP. Creditors are now gaining Creditor's Rights and make sure you don't try to sue them if you 'did' owe them $$.
- ShillKill replies to SliderMighty thoughtful of you to reply to a three year old post and offer your unsolicited opinions. Perhaps you should save your pedantic pontifications for people who care. Nice try with the fear mongering --- empty barrels make the most noise

- What a bunch of morons!| 2 repliesMost of you don't have a clue!!! Collection agencies work on a contingency basis! That means they get paid if they collect, they don't buy debt! Thats a thing of the past with very old uncollectable paper, where someone was looking for needles in haystacks. For those of you who don't answer because you don't owe no one and pay for everything with cash.. you are ignorant. It could be a medical bill, electric, phone, car, etc... and don't tell us you pay cash for all of that. You pay with either check or money order.. or if they are calling you obviouly don't pay. Answer the phone.. resolve the issue or identify that they have the wrong number and make the calls stop!!! Ignoring a situation will not make it go away. Just think! think! think!!!!!
- Caller: I'm the one that knocks!
- Lassie replies to What a bunch of morons!Ironic that you tell people to "Think! Think! Think!" when that is precisely what you DON'T want people to do. You want them to "Fear! Fear! Fear!" and pay up without asking any questions or getting written validation of the so-called debt.
- Gunnar replies to What a bunch of morons! It takes a particularly desperate, minimum-wage, fraudulent debt collector to come here & try to tell us how the debt collection industry operates. I'm not alone here in telling you that many of us here know more about the debt collection industry than you will EVER know! We know how they acquire their accounts. We know where they buy their paper. We know how much they pay for their paper. We know the meaning of a Creditor versus a 3rd party debt collector. We know the scum involved in the industry. We know the type of lower scum that is employed by them.
Most importantly, we know the state & federal regulations governing the collection of debt. Inside out! If you'd like to argue any issue involving the collection of debt...Bring it on!
I'll sum this up by simply stating the obvious. If ANYONE receives a call from ANY debt collector, DEMAND a notice of validation be mailed to you! NOT an e-mail or fax. As per federal regulations under the FDCPA. If some clown (like this SHILL here) calls and refuses to comply with the FDCPA ( for ANY reason) pay him NOTHING! When a collection outfit fails to comply with federal regulations it's a dead give away. The collector is a two-bit flunky trying to collect on an invalid or time-barred debt, or the collector is nothing more than an outright FRAUD trying to collect on a purely BOGUS debt.
Know your rights as a consumer under the FDCPA. Just Google it. It's not complex. You will be able to understand it. Once you are aware of the laws governing the collection of debt, you will never fall prey to smoke-blowing fraudulent debt collectors again. Look up the Statutes Of Limitations regarding debt in your state. They vary. In some states the SOLS concerning debt are as little as three years. This is not to say that a debt collector can't keep trying to collect an old debt. It means the collector can never win a judgement against you in court. Some are low enough to try. They count on a default judgement being made when their target fails to appear in court. NEVER ignore a summons! Scum-bag debt collection outfits obtain judgements against debtors more than 75% of the time due to someone simply ignoring a summons. Default judgements are the "Bread & Butter" to shady debt collection outfits.
Be Safe. Be Aware.
Gunnar - K D LazGot a traditional paper mail notification that they were collecting a debt on behalf of Bank of America, owed by my company/LLC. It's completely fraudulent, as verified by BofA. I have notified the FBI that this organization is attempting to gain access to our accounts. They will most likely be arrested and charged with bank fraud.
