In order to put a lien on your assets and bank account they would have to take you to court and win.  To do that they would have to reveal who they are and where they are located, so they certainly don't want anyone to know that.  As to tax refunds, those can only be attached for Student Loans, Overdue Taxes, or Certain Court Ordered Payments such as Child Support.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

She asked for my husband and I told her there are more than one Robert Sweetmans. I asked if she had a middle initial and she said no. I asked if she had the last four digits of social. She did and I said that is not my husband it was my son. I have talked to her before and she is nasty. Finely I hung up on her after asking to be taken off her phone list. She said I had to talk to my son to do this.

So once again they called me. Even after I have told them several times over the pat 3 months to stop calling me and that they are violating the law with their tactics. They are trying to collect a debt that was discharged through bankruptcy 10 years ago! The rude guy says I never spoke to anyone there. First of all, I have records of it, second of all I have already filed complaints with both the BBB and my states Attorney General's office (even though it doesn't matter to them but for my own records, I filed the complaints). The d bag hung up on me. When I called him back and told him not to hang up on me, he once again hung up. They better not call me again.

On another note, how can anyone work for a company like this. I get people need jobs but how can you in good conscience work for a company with such shady tactics. How morally bankrupt do you have to be to be employed here? The FTC really needs to go after them because they are in violation of nearly every debt collection law. They need to be shut down.

Two questions, have you filed a complaint with the CFPB?  Have you considered suing them?

These guys are full of it! The calls started last week from multiple numbers! (This is the latest number to call me and finally give a business name “SRG” on the VM. Every number including this one has come up as a scam on google. To think I almost paid them to avoid “garnishment” for a debt from 10 years ago, but had to get off the phone for work. Tried to call back and it kept going to a full VM with no business name. Same with all the other numbers. (They keep calling while I’m at work so I can’t answer.) They finally call when I can answer and I tell them that I looked up their number, I know they’re a scam, and that my lawyer advised me to get their business info & account they’re referring to so they can contact the business for me. The lady states that this is their first time calling and that wasn’t their company (LIES), gives me her first name then says “hold on” and hangs up. Then earlier today they call from another number. I pick up and ask why they are still calling me, that until they give me the info I’ve been asking for to give me lawyer they need not to call.
She then proceeds to tell me “You know what? You can go to court. I don’t know who you think you’re talking to but I’m not one of your little girlfriends” I wish i could have snatched her through the phone. Then I get the call from this number 2 hours later. All [***]. All for a debt that legally can not be collected on.

Rude sounding recording and said they received a very important document that could affect my future employment, loans, credit, etc and needs to be addressed immediately. Stay on the line to talk to someone or it gave another number to call. Was going to stay on to tell them don't call again, I was reporting this and to * off but no one came on so I hung up.

Received a voicemail today claiming that I was a person of interest  in A case.. no
Information only a “case”  that was not identified, nor was my name used. That if I didn’t call them back my assets and bank accounts would be frozen.  I do not owe anybody any money don’t even have any debt and I’m certainly not a criminal .It was not recording and it sounded like a live person, definitely English speaking. The scammer did not identify themselves, nor did they identify me by name, did not give any information on person of interest nor the case against me. Definitely fraud or a scam because law enforcement  does not use the term person of interest.   And honestly if I was a person of interest for anything I’m sure I would receive a visit from that agency instead of a voicemail. That’s only on tv people! I will be calling back just to get as much information as I can as to whom and what kind of scam they are running.  I’m not sure why but I’ve been  inundated  with these types of calls, scams within the last four months from the IRS, fake debt collectors to now being a person of interest.  These are getting out of control and something needs to be done. I imagine that people who may  be vulnerable could easily be scammed  into providing them information. I’m almost certain that they’ll ask me to verify my  banking account information, my Social Security number and birthdate and mothers maiden name so they can steal my identity. I’m going to call back using a false name and see what they pull up on me and I’ll post my results

I called them back knowing full well knowing  this was a scam  just to have a good laugh As I’m sick of these messages and I decided to play back. So Igave them a false name and  after being placed on hold they pulled up my “case file” lol
Then needed me to identify my self so I gave them a fake Social Security number and birthdate and they asked me to confirm my banking account information with routing number lol and I gave them a fake one and then they said that’s not coming back on anything are you sure that’s correct? And I said OK well I guess you didn’t need to confirm it because you said You already had it...  I told them you guys are getting really good at trying to scam people.  This is where it got good, he said that I am not cooperating and that would be yet another charge against me and I asked him charge against me in Connection to what case?  I asked for the case number, the plaintiff information, docket number and jurisdiction.  I need a contact number for my attorney to sort this out. Oh my god this guy lost it on me and told me that I was a stupid B*%th  and that I was asking too many questions that Was none of my concern even though I’m a person of interest... lmfao  then he had the nerve to threaten me saying that because I was not cooperating with the authorities that they would be to the house immediately and I would be arrested for noncompliance. I told him please ohh yes... please send them  and hurry and thank you because my husband is law enforcement So we would be anxiously awaiting my arrest. Omg I could barely contain my laughter...he then
called me a few names and abruptly hung up! It was fun but I’m definitely worried for people who may have debt issues or Perhaps in trouble with the law that they may succumb to this type of fraudAnd these calls are getting more and more frequent and it’s been happening to me for the last four months I’ve been getting calls from fake IRS agents saying there is a warrant for my arrest and  from debt collectors which is funny because I have no debt..,  and now this one saying I’m a person of interest  in a case that they could not identify nor did they use my name..and I can tell you personally that law enforcement does not use the term person of interest and if you were  somebody that they wanted to talk to I guarantee you they would be at your door not hiring a telemarketer to call you on the phone. It’s just crazy the extent of which they Go through to try to scam people and it’s out of control needs to stop. They obviously are getting something out of it because I’ve been inundated lately with these types of calls and I’m getting sick of it. I’ll block the number and then an hour later a different number Will
Call.  I did hear that people should not answer phone numbers they don’t recognize because scammers are just looking for someone to pick up the line. Then if they confirm it’s a viable number they sell it to other scammers because they know it’s a legit number.   I guess I just got bored today but it was fun
