I received the same phone call today from Matthew Banks , with the same message but from an 866 number ! I also had received notification from Credit Sesame that someone had tried to access my account an hour before so I am willing to be this is a scam ! I called this guy back three times and each time his name changed. I am filing a complaint , as this is a scam and harassment.

The message "Concerned" posted was a typical debt scammer message.

    Debt Extortion Scammers

The vague scare tactic message is designed to panic a victim into calling back.

Most debt collectors will use a certain amount of pressure to convince you to pay the debt. After all, they often don't get paid unless you pay. Be suspicious of a debt collector who uses an unusual amount of pressure to get you to pay immediately, particularly if they also use scare tactics to get you to pay right away. For example, a debt collector is scamming you if it :
    • threatens you with a lawsuit and tells that you can avoid the lawsuit by paying right away
    • Says a Process Server  or Courier is coming with papers to sign
    • Threatens to call / go to your place of employment
    • Insists you have been notified, served or are non-compliant via phone message(s)
    • Refuses to give a company name or verifiable Contact source
    • Refuses to send proof of debt via US mail

A sure sign of a debt collection scam is a collector that wants to you to pay via wire transfer or another method that can't be traced. If the payment method can't be traced, you'll have a harder time getting the authorities involved.

If the creditor sounds completely foreign, or you know you never had an account with that business, there's a chance it's a scam. Never pay a collection you don't recognize. You have the right to request written proof of the debt from the debt collector before you send payment.

This is crazy because I received a call as well with this same wording and voicemail. The only thing is I actually had the account he referenced however when I googled this place of business I'm unable to locate any information about them. Also he stated multiple letters were sent on his voicemail to mail, over the phone he said one letter, and then changed it to two after I told him to send me whatever info he has certified mail. These people are scammers and he also called he's not with a debt collection agency because he doesn't receive any fees for this service.

IF there was a problem, you would NOT be warned.  It is illegal to threaten a court case (of which there is NONE!).

10/21/20  Yep.  A "Mark Stern"  is  STILL there in 2020,  STILL needing to "verify"  addresses  for  his unnamed "client"  re  so-called  file # 12345 to send "important papers" to me that "require my signature."  I  guess he  thinks I was born yesterday.   He also claimed they've sent "many" letters  to me "outlining the process,"  whatever that means.  IVE NEVER  RECIEVED 1  PIECE OF MAIL FROM THEM -  EVER!    All the phone  #s  they use  are spoof #s  & they  have NO VOICEMAIL OPTIONS, so u can't call after hours to tell them off w/o  having to speak to one of those maggots.  There are 12 primary rules  a bill collector MUST follow.   For  me ... they  have VIOLATED 3!! One  girl  called me  from a 916 prefix &  I was able to leave a VM after hours & 1) demand anyone & everyone from Wellington STOP calling me,  2)  if they are actually a bill collector or trying to extort $$ from me ... good luck w/that  bc I exist 400% below poverty level on Soc Sec, so  I can't pay them a dime, 3) pointed out THEY DID **NOT** SUCCINCTLY IDENTIFY THEMSELVES AS BEING A BILL COLLECTOR ... AS REQUIRED BY LAW!!! They, instead, use vague phrases & nouns like "client" &  file number.

Doing those 3  are against the law!

For  those  of  you  who  have had  family & friends bothered by them ... THAT  IS DEFINITELY AGAINST THE LAW.   If  they  are  calling  your WORK  ...THAT  IS ALSO AGAINST THE LAW. And ....  if  you  specifically tell them:  do  not call my home,  my family/friends, my employer ... &  they keep doing so  ... they  are setting themselves up for a harassment lawsuit . ..   which you CAN win!

Just spoke to Matthew banks from wellington partners. Claiming a debt and that they supposedly sent me correspondence regarding it. I asked him if they can email the supposed claims information to me and any proof they have that they are the ones who are in charge of my account now. He started getting angry stating that he cannot send out any email until i provide some form of payment. when i told him i refused to provide my account information he placed me on hold for a few minutes and then let me know he was able to send me an email...... This is a straight up SCAM! The address listed for me is a Chinese restaurant in CA... I live in Miami... The address they have listed as theirs (5501 Camp Rd. Ste # 517 Hamburg, NY 14075) is a USPS office on google maps.
