You should file a fraud and deceptive practice complaint with the Attorney General in your state.  Send any correspondence with the complaint and also notify the National Reading Service or Magazines of America etc (they go by different names) that you filed a complaint.  Make sure to close your charge account or bank account if they automatically withdraw funds.

so has anyone stopped just paying or canceled their CC or debit and has they ever took anyone to court or anything? or are they just bluffers?

I canceled my CC as soon as i got off the phone as I got a funny feeling after I was asked for my SSN, which is a sign of a SCAM. I doubt they can take anyone to court as they are not BBB certified. People have claimed to have their account erased after telling the company that he or she will not pay because the company is a scam. Say that you have or will call your lawyer as soon as possible. I don't know if they have some way around it now.

Company a.k.a. National Reader Services and Community Reader Services

In my honest opinion this is a well disguised scam.

these people got me...do not give them ur information. They called me during Dec2008 & I was pregnant and in a very happy mood. they called my cell phone telling me they were calling reg: my credit card ending in 1234.
I got concerned, then they said my credit card was selected to participate in a draw of $100k. I was soooo stupid and I confirmed my credit card. I was suppose to rec' magazines as part of my commitment to them. They drew my Discover 69.95 the first month. I only rec'd 2 magazines..They sooo got me. They were to draw 69.95 for 2 years. ARE THEY [***]. They are
Virginia Reading in Florida. Do not give any information to anyone over the phone, I do everything over the internet....

Yeah I got suckered into this too. Got a call around Christmas time last year and they had my name, address and phone number and said that they had my debit card number on file and wanted me to confirm. Well I did and now they won't stop harassing me. They call me at least four to five times a day. They drew out more money than I had in my bank account, so I had to work for a month straight at my job just to get back above the negative status. They keep sending me tons of magazines that I never agreed to buy. It's so annoying that I've almost ripped the battery out of my phone just to have some peace lol.

Yea so I keep getting these calls asking me to revalidate my information since you know I got my bank to change all my cards and they are pissed that they can't charge my accounts anymore. Yea, somehow they got the information to all my bank accounts, and I only gave them one. They did the whole "Congratulations you won a free all expenses paid trip to Hawaii for two for three nights, all you need to do is sign up for these magazines. Do you want your FREE trip?" and of course they said that at lightspeed so all you could understand was do you want a free trip. Naturally, who wouldn't want a trip, I said yes. This was at like 5:00am so I wasn't really awake yet and gave them some information.  Next thing I know my accounts are being depleted of all my hard earned money. I try getting them to cancel everything but they've given me a wrong number. Yay. So the number they gave me finally comes online about a week later and I'm yelling at them. Whatever right, they're just another hard a$$ company with strict policies right. Ha two months later and still no magazines nothing no letter or anything telling me anything about the magazines so I get a call from them since I've already canceled my bank accounts and they want me to give them my info again. I told them I'm not giving them anything I haven't recieved anything from them why should I pay them. They apologize and say if you revalidate your info we'll get right on it, so I hung up on them. Everytime they change their number I save it into my phone so I know not to pick up for them but their number keeps changing. They have five numbers that they call me on...866-450-5695, 888-508-2459, 866-633-5105, 866-427-6130, and 800-872-6209.

I fell for their scam in 2005.  They charged my account only $19.99 a month.  I closed my bank account in January 2009 and then started to receive billing statements.  I never paid.  Now my past due amount was sent to collections.  I tried to cancel in 2006 and they said they couldn't because all of the magazines were on pre-order and already paid for by their company (I owed over 1,000).  That doesn't make sense because I had opportunity to change my subscription.  IDK what to do.  I'm trying to fix my credit and if I pay them I'm afraid they will continue to bill me and then I will get sent to collections again.  Any idea?

they told me the EXACT same thing about the overdraft, so I was like okay I'll go for it then. They overdrafted me and so I tried to cancel. In return they threatened to sue me. I canceled my credit card and ignore their 349359506094 calls.

My parents started receiving magazines in my name at their house in NJ, I live in FL, I figured they were a gift from a relative who didn't know I had moved out some time back. I later noticed a few random credit card charges that I didn't recognize, so I ended up changing my card, figuring that if these recurring charges were for one of the legitimate services that I use, that they would contact me.

Sure enough, I get a phone call from these people telling me that they require my new credit card number to continue the owed payment on my magazines. I asked what it would cost to cancel the account, as I never asked for these magazines, and the only magazines I do read, are trade magazines. They then proceeded to tell me that I can not cancel the account and that to stop the flow of magazines I owe them a massive amount of money for about 6 magazine subscriptions that were ordered through them and that they have a recording of me ordering these magazines. They still refuse to allow me to listen to this supposed recording. Suddenly, literally days after the first conversation, my parents started receiving tons of new magazines. I really hope they don't expect to nail me for all of these new subscriptions as well, as a sort of way to put me in a worse situation.

Now they are threatening my credit, which is thoroughly upsetting me. I am not about to give in to these financial terrorists, but I do not know what I can do from a legal perspective.

    Checkboi
About 5 or 6 months ago i received a call in the morning from a service that was providing magazines. Like a dumbass, i opted to hear what they had to say. The man started off by saying he was new and to bare with him. He told me about the subscription and asked me what kind of Diamond/gold watch i would like to receive as a gift for free. He stated that the payments would be $5.20 a month so it would be a 1 time payment of $62.40, and the next 4 years free. They recorded the conversation but in a way that they could edit out certain parts to twist the truth if checked by someone. I ordered the magazines and paid the $62.40. about a month later i did not receive any magazines nor did i receive the diamond watch. I should have checked before i ordered because the did not give me a name of their company or any time of information on them. I looked up the phone # they called me from (866-450-5695) on google and all i kept getting in the search results were thousands of pages of other people being scammed by the same people who called from that number. i Immediately called and canceled my credit card. I called and canceled with them also. But for the last 4 or 5 months they have been calling me day in and day out. Between 6am and 11:30pm, they call about 3 to 5 times a day.  i recently received a letter in the mail stating that i am to pay a total of $1,236.45. That is complete [***]!!!! Who the [***] pays 12oo dollars for a total of 8 magazines recieved (already used and old issues). They did not abide by their own terms in which they tried to make invalid charges to my credit card, did not send the watch that was provided, and says you cannot cancel after i already called and they said they cancelled my account. Do not fall for this service at all!!!!!!! THEY CAN [***]. IF I SEE THEM IN PERSON I WILL RAPE THEM WITH A BANDSAW!!! THE NUMBER IS 866-450-5695. ALSO KNOWN AS Premier Reading Service and Consumer Reading Company. [***] THESE ASSCLOWNS [***]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Dont Fall For iT
They also had all my info.. but they DO NOT take you to collections at all nor does it screw up your credit. Best thing to do is cancel your cards and changed your numbers. a bit extreme but it does the trick. They also had my work number, but i told my manager and associates to tell them i got laid off and i dont work there anymore, and they stoped calling. And I also ran a credit check and they did not appear on it at all. So just a lil advice to you all to save some worries. I also canceled my subscription with them with a so called "one time charge of $200" then a year later they kept charging.. so they are totally full of bull.. dont trust them at all, and dont even answer their calls.. better yet, put them on ignore if possible.

yeah i have the same story as everyone else.
except that that they don't have my credit card number because i lost the credit card that they had the number for, so i had to cancel it right away. Now they call me constantly and it's really annoying.  There's not even a website that i can find to pay a partial payment or anything, but i do keep getting their magazines. Is there anyway that i can cancel their service because i only read about 2 out of the 5 magazines they send me a month, and i'm really getting fed up.
