Man named James calling saying monies is owed and if not paid will be taken to court. I called him and he said that we would be getting a summons in the mail for court. I said that is fine you people keep threatening this, but then you keep calling.  He said what will happen now, is this will be sold to another credit collection, and in about a year we will begin to get calls again.  I said, what about the court summons.  He said nothing.

This is C. Barry and Associates doing business as Credit Smart (credsmart.org), which is obviously a debt-collection firm.  Judging by the violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, there's nothing "smart" about what they do.  Direct your complaints to the FTC at ftc.gov

I have had constant messages left on my answering machine for my son who has been out of the house for eight years.  I finally answered and played the dumb mom not knowing how to contact my son.  They gave me detailed information about his overdue credit card.  All privacy act laws were violated.  They even tried to get me to pay for his "so-called debt" cancelling out half of due amounts as long as I could pay off instantly.  My son was keen on looking up this phone number so am pleased to find these postings.  The calls keep coming in and now they are making it sound as though he won a contest.  Enough is enough.  I am on the "no call list" but will now be cancelling my land phone.

Stating I won a contest but there was a pre-legal bill that has to be paid first. Glad I checked into this site. Could be scammers. Here are the other numbers and possibly an address.

I reported them! I'm so mad!

This people called me wanting to collect money for an account that has been paid and threaten to take me to court if i did not pay this to them. They said that they bought this account from another agency and that they needed proof that it was paid. They are full of [***].

Called saying i owe 1500 on old att bill. Threatening court and trying to take money from my ssi.

-Called over an AT&T bill
-I paid the bill in full (I have proper documentation)
-NOT ON MY CREDIT REPORT!
-Account is outside of the statute of limitations (meaning they can't sue me at all)

I Had my family member (an attorney) call them, they won't send any documentation that they legitimately own this account. How could they? I paid this off already

My husband received a call from Allen Grant of Credit Smart's pre-legal department offering a settlement of 33% on an old account.  I ended up calling back and dealing with this.  He said that they were filing court documents the next day if we didn't pay them and that it was his job to keep us out of court.  The original debt amount was $255.98 (verified August of 2011).  They claimed that because of interest and late fees the total amount owed was $927.16 and that they could settle for $309.05.  I'm an educated person and I'm sure he wasn't expecting that.  He said that they reported this on my husband's credit on January 19, 2012. Lie - I pulled reports on January 25, 2012 and it was not there.  I explained that i had a real problem paying his company without ever receiving anything in writing.  I demanded a letter be emailed to me before we had any further discussions regarding payment.  I did receive an email shortly from Jaye@creditsmart.org containing a letter from Jenny Lopez in the payment department.  Their letter was obviously a "form" and did not even have letterhead!  This was not sitting right with me, so I called the creditor that we had correspondence from August of 2011 and verified that they still held the account.  I explained to them what was going on and they were floored. I paid them and decided to call Mr. Grant back.  He was not happy to  hear from me.  I explained to him that I just spoke to the creditor that actually holds the account and that it was already paid and that they could stop calling us.  He screamed at me "NO! WE'RE NOT GOING TO STOP! IT'S ON YOUR CREDIT!" and then he hung up on me. At this point, knowing that it was scam, I gave it a few minutes and called back and asked to speak to his supervisor.  Let me tell you, this guy has anger management issues.  He screamed "WHY?! WHY!?"  I simply said that he wasn't being professional and that it was no longer his concern.  He said "Well, I can tell you right now that my supervisor isn't going to like talking to YOU!"  I said "That's fine, please transfer me."  He put me on hold and eventually hung up on me.

Please don't fall for this!!!!

Received a call today at work, from a "Kim" with "CS San Bernardino Court". Said I was to be summoned for a case against me. ?!?!?! I am working where calls are monitored & management works next to me so you could imagine how paniced I was & frustrated that I couldn't speak freely to find out more.
When asked what this was about "Kim" said she would transfer me to the "Company" who filed the "Case". I was transferred to a "Sophia Myers" ext. 302.
SHe said I owed a ridiculous amount and need to settle it. I asked for her information & who I was calling what was going on, First I'm told I'm going to be summoned for court then she's asking for money over the phone. I told Sophia I wanted to make sure this wasn't some mistake. SHe said Kim was with CS San Bernardino County who is a "Company that processes all paperwork" for court & She (Sophia) was with Credit Smart and I can settle this payment now so my "paperwork" will not be processed & I will not be summoned. When I questioned her about Kim & who/where they both were calling from I was continusly interupted.
First off, they are saying they are with "A COURT/COUNTY" they are not. I've filed a complaint with the FTC.
Second, Never received anything in writing before this.
Took her number down & now that I've done my research I can't wait to call her back.

A guy by the name of James called me from Credit Smart and said I owed a bill back from 2000. Said it was a possible ex that opened up the account under my name.  Said I owed $600 and would settle for $300 and need to pay by end of June.  Told me to call him at extension 301.  If i didn't pay they would be sending out a summons. What I would like to know is how they got my work # that is not under my name, but under the company I work for.  I'm so glad I found this now I now it's a complete SCAM!!!

i worked for this company they collect on zombie debt, all their accounts are past the statue of limitations but when you call we are supposed to lie about the last payment date to make you think the account is still in stats. i worked with them for 5 years and saw about 200 people get fired. not only do they collect illegally they also practice illegal things with their employees. Sue them , you can sue them for speaking to a familly member or for even leaving a "pre legal" matter message on your voicemail. they have paid out thousdands to people instead of going to court, they even put the company under their puppets name to stay in business since barry calvagna has so many violations. the "owner" is patrick resti make sure you sue him and the company will go down.

when you ask them for their adress they give you an adress in hunting station which is a p.o box their real adress is 300 motor parkway suite 105. all the employees use fake names, angelina james is really joanne martusciello, david porter is really morgan stanford, jennifer davis is really lauren picone, patricia mills is really stephanie picado, chery sparks is really cheryl negron , margaret st clair is really melissa weber, dina lopez is really yolanda recinos everyone has a fake name this is a fake company. They also are able to see your social security numbers and dob, and even your Credit card information!!!. some of their employees steal credit card information so do not pay them!, if you do 3 months later someone WILL break into your account. if you are paying them cancel your credit cards immediately.
