unusual charges on my credit card

I got an automated message on my home phone saying there was suspicious activity with my card number.
They provided a number and passcode, and when I started down this route, they started asking for info,
so I called the number on the back of my card. They said the hold on my account was legit. I read some of the earlier messages here, and it made me uneasy, as they said my card number was also used in Mexico.
Maybe it's just a popular place for the fraud to be carried out these days. I'm supposed to get a new card in a couple of days, so either it's legit, or a pretty elaborate ruse.

This call was from FIA Card Services.  I called the number on the back of the credit card instead of the 866 559 0021 provided by the Private Caller.  A fraud alert had been placed on my account, which FIA Card Services removed when I called.  This is actually legitimate, although it does not appear to be.

I got this call and after reading the comments here I went ahead and called this number. They had to be FiA because they already had all my credit card info and didn't ask me for any new info. They just told me what my my last three transactions were and asked me if I recognized them all (which I did). Anyone who knew all that wouldn't need any more info from me.

I did not call this number, but did call the number on the back of the card.  The rep told me that 866-559-0021 was from FIA's Card Services from their fraud division.  When I called the number on the card, the computerized voice wanted me to acknowledge recent charges, which I did.  It was a little embarrassing that they shut down my card without my knowledge, and an attempt to use the card at a Safeway grocery store was declined.

But, on the other hand, I'd rather that they be overly suspicious in protecting the account.  I suspect that it is FIA's responsibility for fraudulent use, but would be a hassle to have charges removed, etc.

same type call but with so much telephone scams was reluctant to call number but instead called my credit card companies and determined it was FIA card services fraud division and there were bogus charges on my account. New card issued, thank you for being alert to these crooks.

this is the security line for fia card services. I double checked with number on card and its correct. I had a fraudulent charge on the account.

I received a call saying that there was suspicious activity on my credit card ending in 5904. I am to call this number to resolve. But I don't have a credit card ending in 5904. Hmm... I didn't call.
