Same thing happened to me those [***], except I didn't get charged they kept trying to get me to pay and then i said i dont have the money and they were like ill do it for 40 and they were indian to. They got a access on my computer but I exited out and they were also telling me i had a bunch of viruses on my computer and it was gonna crash at any minute and that I needed to pay quickly. I called them back asking why they were scamming people and they tried to act all innocent and crap by saying things like omg and that they wouldn't do such a thing. This happened to me like 2 hours ago do they just try to get your money or will they try to put harmful viruses on your computer to?

I am in Toronto, did a google look up on Dell Support and got 866-231-2864,

I thought I was speaking to Dell.  They sucked me for 300$ and 8 hours and did not fix the issue, said tit was HW related and that I will get a full refund. Reported it to my CC company, waiting for the refund. and Very concerned about the info they may have gotten from the remote Access I provided.  Beware of 866-231-2864 and also of 877-493-3544.  Does anyone know how to notify google about this?

My internet provider gave me this number
Trust me... I called my Internet provider and gave them an earfull for giving me this scam number!!

I called my Internet service provider for help with my outlook express 6.  I wasn't able to send emails.  My service provider put in a ticket but also told me that Microsoft has been having trouble lately.  She gave me 1-866-587-1775 to call for Microsoft support.  Unfortunately I tried the number. I was suspicious from the get go because nothing about the phone call mentioned Microsoft support. I got the same India guy that others mentioned. Was transferred to the chat page where I discovered it was Microsoft but My Tech Guru's. I guestioned it but they assured me they were recommended for level 1 support.  They still didn't say they were with Microsoft. I let him take control of my computer for less than a minute while I researched this phone number online.   Thanks to this site I got the info I need. I asked him if I was going to be charged and he told me if they fix the computer there was a charge. This was never disclosed had I not asked.
I ended the chat immediately and hopefully no harm was done.

In the end.... I called back my Internet service provider and finally got someone compitent on the phone. She fixed mt issue within five minutes.  TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS!

Bought a new laptop last week. Couldn't create a Microsoft account to download Windows. Called this number. Guy got access to my laptop. He went through my laptop trying to figure out the problem and said he found a virus, my computer was missing DLL? files and was on the verge of crashing and that all these issues were possibly blocking the software from being downloaded. Didn't make sense. He asked if I wanted him to clean it up, I said yes, then he proceeded to tell me about the prices. After I insisted I didn't want it he started trying to close everything down. I tried to gain control of the mouse to deny him access and we fought over the mouse for about 10 seconds then I was able to boot him. I didn't give him any other info other than my name, email and phone number which he could find online anyway. But I was worried about what other information he may have snagged from my laptop so it is now be completely reformatted, and I have changed every password I can think of. The conversation is below:

1:52 PM Mathew: NOTE: It is highly recommended to perform a manual PC Clean Up at least once in a month  to avoid these kind of issues in up coming days & future. .
1:52 PM Customer: i can do that through mcafee?
1:52 PM Mathew: We would not like to comment on any third party applications or software. The truth is no anti-virus is fool proof, so that's where you need to do a manual clean-up of any threats like Trojans, spywares at least once a month so that you can eliminate any threats immediately. This is where the human intervention is required and these threats need to be eliminated and monitored by certified processionals who know what they are doing.
1:52 PM Mathew: That is the reason in this computer world It is highly recommended to perform a manual PC Clean Up at least once in a month.
1:53 PM Customer: how do i do a manual pc clean up?
1:53 PM Mathew: Registry cleanup is a critical task because if any one of the files in the registry editor is missed or corrupted the computer might not get startup. The registry is a vital component of the Windows operating system. In order to keep your computer running efficiently, it is critical that you keep this area healthy and free of errors.  Certified System Professional could perform that using the authorized tools.
1:53 PM Customer: okay, will you be doing a clean up now?
1:54 PM Mathew: Sure, Shall we go ahead & fix all these issues right away for your PC to work charm, safe & secure for long-term?
    1:54 PM Customer: yes please
1:54 PM Mathew: Now for me to perform this task, we have two options for you, the first one is the one time fix & the other is the annual package.
1:54 PM Mathew: May I brief you the plan?
1:54 PM Customer: i'll do the one time fix please
1:55 PM Mathew: Okay, But as we are running with the discounted offer plans today. Let me give the options you can select the best for your computer working charm safe and secure for long term.
    1:56 PM Mathew: May I?
    1:56 PM Customer: sure
1:56 PM Mathew: The one time fix will cost $129.99 & that is for fixing all the issues that are on the computer for now, The UNLIMITED Tech support plan comes at $229.99 for One year, which works out to less than $0.55 cents per day. , Technical support for Two year -discounted price $299.99.In this package we include UNLIMITED tech support for software, UNLIMITED security against hackers programs, Viruses, spywares + manual check-up once a month by a technician to clean up registry files (Upon request) and look for errors on your computer.
1:57 PM Mathew: I would always suggest our customers to go for the discounted two year plan as its better value for money & also you get a whole computer service for two years.

1:58 PM Customer: no thank you. i'm going to get it done on my own. once i fix this issue, will i be able to download micrsoft?
1:58 PM Mathew: I do understand but I believe you or a local technician cannot fix it.  a Certified System Engineer like us can fix the issues from the root kit such that they don’t occur again as Registry cleanup is a critical task because if any one of the files in the registry editor is missed or corrupted the computer might not get startup. The registry is a vital component of the Windows operating system. In order to keep your computer running efficiently, it is critical that you keep this area healthy and free of errors.
1:58 PM Mathew: In that case, You can go for the One Time Fix , As the issue is very serious , Needs an immediate fix . So that we fix all the issues that are with the computer and your computer works charm, safe and secure for long  term. Hope this will work with you.
1:59 PM Customer: i have a service plan with office depot and this is covered.
1:59 PM Customer: but what does this have to do with registering my office?
2:00 PM Customer: the product key is valid, why can't i download
2:00 PM Mathew: I hope you have seen a transparent diagnosis and the issue is serious in your computer and It involves lots of manual work and more over the responsibility for us to ensure your files &  data in the computer. Therefore this is the reasonable charge to fix all this issue right away.
2:00 PM Mathew: We  guarantee  you 100%  resolution; this is what we do every day. Just in case we are not able to resolve the issue which is highly unlikely - we give you a refund. We will call you once we fix the issue - you can check it before we exit out of your computer.

    LOL WUT?

Literally, the words out of my mouth after I found this page.

You know what's even more absurd? I was recommended this number (and some below) after calling Bestbuy Customer support! I was seriously about to get scammed big time. And I've never had a computer virus in probably about five years!

No way in hell would I have guessed Best Buy RMA support would actually point me towards scam artists like these people. Good thing I googled their number right after they asked me to download a remote-access program. Unfortunately, they have my name and number, so I'm getting blown-up 24/7 for not returning their calls. Better that than my credit-card info and other personal stuff!

ALL NUMBERS BELOW ARE SCAMS! BEWARE!

Need a licence for Microsoft Office because the hard drive on my computer was just replaced via the warranty.  Called the "Microsoft Support" helpline, and landed at a company that asked for remote access to my computer.  "James", the so-called Microsoft Technician tried to convince me that my computer was loaded with "invisible" trojans, spyware and worms, and was so infected that it was causing registry errors and "blocking communication ports"  (get this... ) in my "Mac".  Computer is an HP, not a Mac.  That's where the clue in was that this was completely bogus, although the whole ting felt fishy from the beginning.  The company passed themselves off as "Microsoft".  I repeatedly asked both over the phone and early in the chat, if I was communicating with "a Microsoft employee", and I was assured that I was.  Sneaky "James" shut everything down just as I tried to get screen shots of the fraud.

STAY AWAY and DO NOT GRANT ACCESS to these people!!!!  The cal center might be foreign, but the company is in Connecticut, so hopefully the BBB or something can shut them down!!!

    Woeful in Canada
The company did not call me but I got rooked in trying to correct a problem when I was installing Office 365. I caused the problem when I inadvertently made a typo in the email it requested. Duh on me. While looking for help on the Microsoft site, My Tech Guru popped up and it looked legit. In my moment of weakness I gave them remote access to my computer AND paid them $199 to complete the installation and fix the so-called "problems" they discovered. My laptop is new, in retrospect I can't believe I fell for this. I ruined my Easter Monday spending three hours on this nonsense. Four technicians, including their "best" ones, failed to fix anything. I finally googled them on my phone and found all the scam messages. Cut the access off and was able to get my money back on credit card from my bank. An annoying, horrible experience. I find it hard to believe MTG has lasted so long according to the emails, looks like they are very well organized. Shame also on Google and Microsoft for not taking action on this. Is there not a Microsoft sanctioned site that can say yeah or nay as to whether companies are legit? Distasteful. And if I didn't need the Microsoft software I would ditch that too, but they've got us where they want us.

    concerned daughter
my mother almost gave her cc # to these ppl. First her AOL account was hacked. She tried to change the password and a few minutes later she was locked out of her account again. In the meantime, someone called her house claiming to be Microsoft Technicians and noticed there was suspicious activity on her account. She grew suspicious and asked questions, then hung up. She then googled "Microsoft" on her pc (which was obviously already hacked), and called the tech number that came up on her search. The tech person started chatting with her and she gave him/her remote access to her pc. They then showed her lots of "corrupted" files. God knows what they gleaned from her computer. They then started the hard sell for their antivirus/id theft protection plan $129, $299 and something else more expensive. They gave her company name My Tech Gurus when she couldn't find her card and asked them for more info to verify. Luckily she was on the phone with me by then, I looked up the company and its a SCAM. These ppl are truly despicable and committed to spending lots of time and creative energy to their scam. SCARY.

Has anyone had any money stolen from their bank accounts? If they gain access to your computer does that mean they now have all my info and passwords? I have done a system clean up, removed remote access and changed my passwords but still worried if they hack into bank accounts.

To Laura: There are abundant reports here at 800notes about how these tricksters filch money from bank accounts. In general, keep watch on your bank statement (this can be done on-line), and if something weird shows up -- contact your bank immediately! Judging from the range of reports, technically, your account is only as safe as you are willing to devote the time to doing so.

I don't know if my system data is hacked or not...but here's my experience with MTG.

I purchased a rebuilt PC with Vista x32 on it and wanted to upgrade to Windows 8 x64...As an enduser I checked online sites to see if I could upgrade to 64 and saw that if your computer said 64 bit capable--it was possible.  I purchased Windows 8 with both 32 and 64 bit disks included and decided to do the install myself--with guidance from an online website.

When I tried to install x64, however I couldn't--got an error message..

    Called Microsoft---

YUP, ended up with MyTechGurus, but they said it so fast I THOUGHT it was something Microsoft tech--so I told them the problem.  I'm used to techs being Pakistani or Indian since I worked in the computer industry for a few years.  So that was not offputting.

When the tech said it would not install because some necessary files had been removed from my computer., I was stuck.  WELL, I couldn't say that they weren't because I didn't know what had been removed by the company that rebuilt it.  But, they told me not to worry they could repair everything, replace all the missing files remotely. (I'm thinking, THANK YOU, MICROSOFT SUPPORT--you saved the day!!!")

    BIG SIGH, go ahead--fix it.

HOWEVER, when they told me the price and all the service contracts for around $350, I said nope.  Can't pay it, and won't pay it.  Nope, not one year contract either. for $149.  Microsoft is charging me $350 to install Windows 8, FORGET IT!  Besides that, I don't have $350 I'm spending on this. That's when I got told, this is My Tech Gurus, a Microsoft certified company.  And he remotely took me to their website, highlighting their Microsoft certification and their BBB approval.  So you see, we are a legitimate company, Ma;am.

That price is to high? Well, I'll ask my supervisor for onetime fee to fix it. $79 they could replace all the damaged files AND install Windows 8 x64.  We will fix your problem today.  We won't leave you with tis situation.  I thought it was a small price to pay since I did NOT know whether or not files were missing AND I could not get it to install myself.  AND, I was sure going to demand my $$ back if they didn't.  (I checked via my laptop and saw that others who had problems with them HAD successfully gotten their money refunded if there were problems.)

After 3 hours....THREE HOURS they got x32 installed.  We solved the problem!!.  NO you didn't!  And if you can't install WIndows 8 x64 I want my money refunded to my card now.''  "Ma'am you cant go from Vista x32 to Win 8 x 64!!"  I insisted, "YES YOU CAN"  My computer says so and online says so.  AND when I called you, your initial tech said you can and he would do it!"  If you can't I want my money.  Period.  (Funny, that's when the second tech says, Ma'am you have to go from x32 to x32 THEN to x64.  I say, you mean, you spent all this time and all you had to do was tell me install 32 first and then install 64?  He quietly said, "Yes, that's what I am saying."  WOW!  Your company has you waste 3 hours when that's all it took?  "yes, but we will get it done.  It will be ok."

I got calls from a couple of supervisors to see if was satisfied with the service.  I said no.  I called because I could not install x64 and it is not installed.  After they made sure I OWNED both disks,  and it would NOT install from my drive, they did install it remotely, and as they concluded the tech downloaded a service portal to my desktop--in case I needed further assistance--I could just click on it and be reconnected to them.  (It took nearly 6 hours for it to be completed, and I finished the install of x64 myself--since the 3rd tech kept leaving the conversation.)

After he logged off, I promptly removed the portal from the computer.

The computer automatically turned itself on BEFORE they worked on it.  But, since it did it one time after they worked on it, I now turn it off at night from the power strip.

Interestingly, I got a call from someone the next day, Saturday, asking me if I could turn on my computer so they could check to see if everything was working correctly.  I told them no, I could not do it at that time.  It would be about 4 hours before I could.  I would call them back then.  THAT person got rather nasty and asked me "Ma'am, just how hard is it to just go to the computer and turn it on???!!!"  Amazing.  When I still refused, he said never mind calling them, they would call me the next day.  That was over a week ago and they still have not called back.

I am thinking they wanted to reinstall that portal.

At any rate, I have my installation done and my computer is working well--and I would have had to pay the Geek Squad something to do it at Staples or Best Buy.  HOWEVER, I will NOT do amything they can hack from that computer. until I have someone else I trust make sure there is no hidden hacker stuff on there.  I have other computers and lapatop to do my business from.  I guess they could access my OTHER drive and steal my pictures, since that is mostly what is on there.  I did have to provide credit card address email address on the form to pay them.  But, I used my card with the lowest credit limit...and check to see if anything else shows up charged on there.  So far, nothing has.

Microsoft.com got hacked and ripped me off of $1300 in July because someone used my debit card # from a Microsoft account to subscribe to 13 things (13 different email addresses) at $99.99 EACH.  So, if Microsoft itself can do me damage--anyone can, I guess.

As a matter of fact, it's easier to have another card issued.  Problem solved.  Which is what I did with Microsoft.com.

Hi,I am working for this company named Mytechgurus Inc.It's actually located in India,Chennai in the name of Iv Support Technologies. The Point I wanted to make around is ,The Company is actually legit but I think the process will make you think it's a scam,Of course no one does anything for free.

The Basic price for the one time fix will cost you $69.99 to$149.99USD depending on your bargaining skills.

The 1 year plan will cost-$149.99-$249.99
    2 year-$299.99-$349.99
    3 year-$449.99

The 1 and 2 year will vary depending on your Bargaining skills and not with the issues. No bargain can be Expected for the 3 year plan.

This is the sales script which we use currently!!

There will be an Immediate Refund if the Issues are not fixed since ,It's legit. However there will be no refund done if the customers comes after 15 days asking for a Refund for the one time fix! However in the long term plans you can go for a refund within the subscription period.

The problems with the process is we mislead the customers from the primary issues they come for and show them errors and ask them to pay.But once the customer pays to the sales guy,the session will be immediately transferred to the Tech team,Who will solve the Primary issue for which the customer came in.

The company is just two years old and has about 500 employees now and it will grow in future,If the process changes gradually!!.There had been many changes made from the time I entered the company. They stopped showing Event viewers and stopped pasting errors in command prompt.

So may be I guess in the future ,That is once the company has created a brand name for itself they can stop the sales process and directly educate the customers that this is a paid support and there will be nominal charges of so and so $$ to fix the Issue.

You can ask me any Question here.Thank you.

Its all over about the windows scams going on. Shilling doesn't pay here at all! We all know that the scam outfits are getting their scam ads right above the real windows tech site..   so anyone looking for actual microsoft help is being scammed over to bogus repair outfits.

When you upgrade, windows has tech support from windows itself, not some off the wall I wanna sell you a plan..

Nobody should touch anyone's computer short of the owner and real live face to face tech or the manufacture during warranty . No one should mess with a computer unless its the real microsoft tech's.

    Here's the real Microsoft support:

I have some questions for you

    1.  How does it feel to be a troll who plants false information on sites like this to further a scam?

    2.  There are a number of complaints about your organization on the Internet --- that you charge people a large sum of money and don't fix their problems (and refuse to give them a refund).  How do you respond?

    3.  Did you actually think anyone on this board would fall for your post?

    4.  What on earth gives you the right to think you can scam money off of hard working folks?

    5.  Did you realize that your English is absolutely atrocious, and half of what you wrote makes absolutely no sense.
