Scam victim replies to IT Manager
I absolutely agree with your posting.  I spoke to Verizon and they told me that I would need to block ALL text-messaging from my phone in order to stop these messages and subsequent charges (I never even paid for this service or entered a pin number! After being on hold for 20 minutes, after calling this "866" number, I googled the number to realize that many other people have been harassed as well.  Maybe if we all report this number to the BBB, it will help.  I still feel that Verizon has a good faith contract that they need to abide by as a provider.

Ok, got some more info on the premium services. Starting mid next month, Verizon is implementing a "Premium Message Block". Please call to have this service added when it becomes available. You can monitor the availability thru www.verizonwireless.com. Launch date is set for 01/15.

Agreed these companies are a scam, but consider this, Verizon Wireless is just as much a victim as you are. Your services can not be restricted based on Verizons opinion, therefore, blocks can not be added unless specifically requested by the account holder or responsible account manager.
A launch date is set 01/15/2008 for "Premium Messages Block", I suggest you implement when it becomes available.

One of my sons got this on our bill.  I called as was given the pitch about he had to log on the sight and sign up for it.  They promised to remove the account. The next month the charge was $14.99.  I did some searching on this number 886-616-6076 and on Opera Ring Tones.  WHAT A SCAM.  I had Verizon change my sons cell phone number.  The customer service rep (happens to be another of my sons) told me that is the only way to insure the charges don't hit again.  There is no way that Verizon can know that this was a scam or that the person really did sign up for it.

Cleanest way to get off the billing cycle.  CHANGE YOUR PHONE NUMBER.

    This Company is a Scam
I emailed the company mutiple times right away when I found out they're charging my verizon account to remove or block my numbers but didn't received a response. I also text STOP, but didn't get any confirmation.

Got lucky that one indian person answer my call.  I found out that they are located in Colorado and I guess they targeted to scam verizon colorado numbers:

A $9.99 charge on my Srint bill showed up from Opera Telecom.  I was told by a Sprint representative to call 866-616-6076 to talk to them.  I used my calling card to call because I wasn't sure if it was toll free and I was not allowed to use my calling card to call this phone number.  We cancelled immediatly after first signing up after realizing what this is and was charged anyway.  Now, I can't figure out how to contact them to determine if it is really cancelled or not.  Sprint is really a disappointment as they will not take any responsibility for this.  They can't even give me a valid phone number to call.

I experienced the same problem with these people in July 2008.  I am reporting this to Verizon and according to Rolisha at Verizon, they can block Premium Text Messaging.  I am doing this at 11:41 a.m. CST.  She informed me that a credit was applied to my account for the $9.99 and the block goes into affect immediately....

Verizon, also.  Operation Ring.  They told me that a text message was sent to me and I opened it causing the charges.  They also said that I dialed 75714 to get the callback text message in the first place.  I don't use those 5 digit numbers for anything and I didn't open a text that indicated they would charge for a service. Cust Rep said, don't open any texts from anyone you don't know.  Kind of like the spam in the email thing, huh?  Maybe some corp is going to offer antispam packages to purchase for our cell phones now.  Just another wonderful service to protect the people!  And to make them millions.

    Tired of the calls
Please dial carefully; I'm getting daily calls from people upset with this scam. But they are all one # off when dialing, so they get me instead. I'm not going to call you back to let you know that you left a message with the wrong person.

My daughters line got charged for this also, Verizon told me she sent an e-mail from her computer and then sent a text to subscribe to this service.  I was with my daughter at the time that verizon says they can prove that it happened and I can tell you that her phone was not in use and the computer was not even turned on!!

Same thing hear.  No way did I subscribe!  These are thieves! They are ripping of thousands and verizon is doing nothing proactive. I got it stopped and had my txt messaging shut down, but good old verizon stuck me for the 9.99.  Verizon is aware of this, but they are passing the buck to you.  I ask you is this right.
