This guy just damaged two of our vehicles with his ladder, took off and never came back to pay for the damages. Quite a history here of ripping people off. Anyone have any success in going after this guy lately?

This scumbag just did a few of my flat roofs. He was in a red pickup with "Flat Roof Specialists" on the side, a few blocks from my house and offered to do a free estimate. Followed me home and did a lowball price with lots of extras thrown in, so I couldn't refuse....free power wash house, clean out my entire yard, free gutter guards, etc. $6400 job in two checks.

Asked for down payment and balance upon completion....but then said he need the balance the next day for materials and to pay his crew of Hispanics, who did all the work. Then did another lowball quote with even more extras on my neighboring rental houses.....saying his supplier "holds checks for up to 90 days" so he can do the work now. Asked for another $8750.

I was smart enough to give him those checks from an account without enough funds to cash them early...which they tried to do the next day but failed. They came to complain. I told them they said they were holding the checks for 60 days and they said " but you need to have the funds available." I said that was not the deal and to cancel the job.

Called my attorney and he said to stop the first two checks. Since they had done the job on a weekend, I lucked out and was able to beat the checks coming into my bank.

Strong Island Roofing's M.O. Is to also bump up the job cost over the written contract as soon as they tear open your roof.

They also started saying that they were losing money on the job from their low quote. By the second day of work, with my roof open, they said they needed another $500 worth of materials and had no money left of the $6400 they had been paid....so I went and bought the materials and the Hispanic sub-contractors finished closing up my roof by end of Dayan, as I hoped.

But the head guys of Strong Island vanished as soon as I started to give them a hard time. At the end of Day Two, only the Hispanic sub contractors remained...and Strong Island had THEM ring my bell asking for yet another check to be paid. I played stupid and said "tell boss man to come tomorrow morning if he wants a check."

The next day, they called my cell a dozen times, finally leaving a message that they did not show up to finish because they " need a check for tar and to pay their workers from the day before."   After I did not call them back immediately! they finally called and said they were sending workers to my house to pick up a check???sounding pissed off.  I called back but they would not answer...so I left a voicemail saying "please be sure to bring a copy of my 20 year Warranty, signed by the two heads of the company...and photo copies of their two Driver Licenses if you want another check."

By the time I got back to my house they had come and grabbed their generator and left. All their bags of garbage are still  in the yard. They called my cell a few times but left no message.

By tomorrow, they will probably realized I was able to stop payment on my checks.

So, for $500......I got three roofs tourched down, one silver coated. They tore open the back of my one garage but did not finish repairs.  

I checks all their documents just before canceling the checks....all three company names were unlicensed in my county;  their insurance docs from a TX carrier were forged; and their addresses all turned out to be UPS Store storefronts.

But I got lucky and was able to come out ahead on these clowns.

Beware....they show up with four or five BIG Italian (alleged) family members...and 4 to 8 Hispanic sub-contractors.  NONE of the work was done by the Italian guys...who all showed up in a fleet of various new large pickup trucks.

The main guy and his "nephew/partner" play a good cop/bad cop routine to lowball the bids and throw on extras. They have the scam down.

BTW....,in addition to Strong Island Roofing name with a Lindenhurst NY address, they are also using  Island Roof Tec & Contracting Inc business card with a Deer Park, NY address. BOTH are UPS Store storefronts.

Also, on their forged Insurance docs.....name is A-Strong island Roofing Inc
