    Struggling in AZ
Got a call from this company on my brother's phone saying they are trying to mail legal documents to him and a summons for court, and that after two attempts, they will serve papers, and if still ignored, will proceed with court hearings without him. I found this is Biller Geeks, a Chicago company that collects for doctor's offices. These "court summons" are just threatening statements to get response. If they don't serve you properly or go through registered mail with a lawyer, odds are you are fine. And not being in your state makes it even less likely there is a court hearing. They likely are asking when and where you will be so they can attempt to serve you. They are notoriously vicious, so be careful with these guys, but in the end, they are just another lying collector using scare tactics against people who are struggling.

Received this call for my son who is overseas and almost caused me to have to have CPR.  Googled and found these posts so I'm not going to worry and my heart has started to beat again on its own.

These people called my brother whom I have little contact with stating they were a clerk in the county court of a county I lived in 12 years ago and they had a summons for me to appear in court. I returned the call at this number that was given with the "case number" and was transferred twice after they asked multiple personal questions that I refused to answer, to the "legal" department. The woman was very rude stating I was being sued for a old debt that is past the statute of limitations in my state. when I asked for written documentation and for their company info she told me it was Maple Filing Services in California. I have not been able to find any such company listed anywhere in CA. So they lied twice about who they are as well as were extremely threatening and shared personal information with someone other than me without my permission.  They thus are violating collection laws and need to be reported to the BBB, attorney general and the FTC, but I have no idea who they really are.

Phone call also recieved from this number about husband and called there butts back after reading all these messages listed and told them i was going to the police if they harrassed me anymore. Was the same similar story about having a summons and needed to appear in court. I guess that after they don't get one they go to the next person and try them but if you put your foot down maybe just maybe it will work.... I am tired of all these scams going on and people getting us worked up about stuff that has no meaning... So beware of these calls...

My husband received a call for me today from Maple Services.  All they told him was that they were a process server and they wanted to make an appointment with me so I could be served with civil court documents.  Portfolio Collections has been hounding me lately and I figured this might be a scam, but I called them back at the 866-676-2139 number.  A very nice man answered and said I needed to speak with Ms. Corona (I wonder if that was her real name?) in the legal deparment.  Before he transferred me I told him that since I had identified myself, he needed to identify himself as well.  He did and that's how I know it was Maple Services.  When Ms. Corona (?) came on the line she explained that the "civil court papers" were or had been filed for an Orchard Bank credit card I had about six or seven years ago.  I told her that I knew that she could not take any time of REAL legal action against me; at least not in my state, as the card was unsecured and besides, I said, true court servers, usually state constables, don't need an APPOINTMENT to serve you...they just show up at your home, work, office, traffic, where ever you might be, hand you the papers and disappear.  What a load of crap.   Collection scam!

I called this number back out of curiosity and after giving them a docket number, I was transferred to Maple Filing Services in California.  I was being sued for an old credit card debt, but basically it's just an outfit that buys defaulted accounts and tries to collect on them.  I told him that I don't owe *them* anything, but I admitted that I would owe money to the original creditor.

Their whole business is bad-debt prospecting,  They buy defaulted accounts with the hopes of convincing people to pay on them, but my paying Maple Filing Services wouldn't do the original creditor any good.  The original creditor got what they could get by selling the debt.  I never signed an agreement of any kind to do business with Maple Filing Services, so I owe them nothing.  He then told me that I would be sued.  I told him that he wouldn't be able to find a judge to make me pay money to people I don't owe money to.  He told me that it happens all the time, but I still think it's a scare tactic they're using to try to get people to pay them something so Maple Filing Services can make a profit off their own purchase of bad debts.  Making a profit *is* their intent.  The original creditor will never see any of the money paid to Maple Filing Services, and I do have a problem with that.  If I had a way to pay my old creditors, I'd love to pay them.  But I simply can't, not only because of two debilitating mental breakdowns, but the basic trials of life.  I thought I was doing the right thing by trying to build a good credit rating so I could one day get some kind of home that could be paid for so I could live without having to pay rent every month.  I thought that building creditworthiness was part of that process, and I thought making use of credit cards was the way to do it, and I also thought that I had to prove I could make monthly payments, not just pay the whole balance every month.  So I did build myself a little credit challenge by buying things on credit and paying the monthly bills.  I always wanted to pay, but unforseen circumstances ended up putting me in a jam, like expensive car repairs that I *had* to put on credit or else lose my transportation to and from work.  I ended up bankrupt, then I my first mental breakdown.

Well, I say: Cut me some slack!  Life isn't perfect.  Life isn't fair.  I've heard it all my life, so if creditors don't always get paid, they should remember those adages that have been crammed down all our throats for all our lives.  If I could pay, I would. Suing me will do no good because I have nothing to give.

You know what they say: let the buyer beware.  That goes for debtors, too.  Let the debtor beware, and don't pay any money to business you have not voluntary agreed to do business with through the signing a piece of paper.  I have a suspicion that all the high medical costs, insurance costs and everything else is all set up to squeeze as much out of us as we can give.  Would I have had a mental breakdown if it didn't feel like the cards were stacked against people who had a good attitude about actually LABORING for every last penny?  I don't know.  But a life environment so geared that simple survival requires a huge commitment of time and loyalty definitely contributed to the escapist fantasies that led to my bouts with mental instability the resulting visits to mental hospitals.

I'm not blaming all my problems on the system, but the system has its share of the blame in people not being able to pay all their bills.  I'm thankful that there is no debtors prison.  I don't really feel like I deserve to be sued, but I certainly don't believe I deserve jail time, either.  I didn't get any credit cards with the intent of scamming the banks for free stuff.  I paid all bills on time for several years until the car repairs finally made my monthly payment obligation too high for my income to handle.  Being sent home from work due to low business made things even worse.  So it's not *all* my fault, but I'll never have another credit card again for as long as I live.  That much is certain.  I just ask bankers with more money than I'll ever see to have a heart, be forgiving, and I'll never darken your doors again.  If by some chance I do happen to come up with enough money that I can pay you back without starving to death or losing my food, shelter, and psychological comforts, you'll get your money back.  Just don't come turn me into some kind of hard-labor slave for $2.00 an hour.

This company called my grandparents home asking if I would be home between the hours of 9 and 4 so I could be served a summons. My divorced aunt lives with my grandparents and called me to tell me about the call. No name was ever left just the above telephone number and a 'case number'. I called promptly called the number, as I am very politically active in my community and would want to stay ahead of the curve on any potential law suit. When I called first, the call was answered immediately by a gentleman, who said, "Legal Department" after I identified myself and gave the 'case number' he then said that the call was a bad connection and hung up. I immediately called back this time a woman answered, a woman who was rude and hostile from the beginning of the phone call. She refused to answer my simple question and accused me of yelling as soon as I started speaking to her, I wasn't yelling or frustrated or anything. She then told me I was being rude and not listening to her, I said, "Miss you haven't said anything to me." She then told me I was being sued for an old credit card on which I had settled six years ago. I asked for more information, she refused to give it to me. I told her that I paid that card a long time ago, She said I had 45 minutes to fax her a copy of that documentation, I told her it would take longer than 45 minutes to find it, if I still had it at all, then I asked why they would call my grandparents home and not my parents or my personal residence. She then used the "F-word" with me and hung up. I highly doubt this is a legitimate company and am reporting them to my state's attorney general's office.

This lousy collection agency called my daughter's number trying to reach me. They upset her very much. They said an officer would be at her house within two hours to serve some court summons.  They left the  866-676-2139 number and told her she had better get in touch with me. She called me and gave me the number and I called them back. A very rude woman answered and I asked her what she wanted and she said I was being sued for some very old credit card debt that had been written off years ago. I ask her if her company was in fact a collection agency and she lied and said they only filed court documents for their clients and no they were not a collection agency. I hope everyone who gets a call from these people do what we did and look them up on the internet and realize they are just a collection agency trying any scare tactic they can to harass  us.

these people are bottom feeders, first of all when you call back they tell you that they are the Maple Filing Services, I could not find any company by that name on the internet or any phone listings. their address is 1191 magnolia ave suite d381 corona ca 92879 and the person on the phone told me that is their corporate office. surprise, surprise that is the address to a UPS store that offer mailing services such as mailboxes. it all smoke & mirrors don't fall for their crap. what process server calls first to give you an opportunity to avoid them, a very stupid  one or someone who is trying to scam you, period! I hope this helps other because I almost fell for the scam then decided to do some research these people. I filed a complaint with the federal trade commission, you all should also so the government could see a pattern of abuse steming from this (for lack of a better word) company.
    I hope this helps others

    Same issue with myself!
Maple Filing Service called telling me I was going to be subponeaed if I didn't call them back. They contacted my work.
Told me a card number that never belonged to me. I told them to give me a phone number to call the company who says I owe them money, and they could not give me one.
I then told the woman, Denise, "your telling me I'm going to be subponeaed for a debit I don't owe from a company you can't locate the number for, who are you?"
She responded, "fine don't believe me, but wait until you have to go to court and see" and then hung up on me. I called back and was placed on hold for a supervisor, and the supervisor would not take my call, but told me to call the company who sent me to collections, I said, "thats the whole problem, I can't because yall don't know and won't give me any information"
I also asked them, "how come this company ANB College Classic couldn't get intouch with me to tell me I owe money, when yall could? I'm easy to contact if you just look in a phone book", they didn't have an answer for that question.
DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFO!!!!!! SCAM, SCAM, SCAM

My wife received a call for me from Maple Filing services this week from 866-676-2139.. They told her they have a court case number against from a very old credit card that was stolen from me 6 years ago.  I reported the theft and that I had severe identity theft and people had used my information in 3 states.  I filed complaints with the FTC, United States Secret Service, The FBI and several local police departments.  The original credit lender has documents and agreed to relieve me of that balance per their theft guidelines.  What's funny is I have been only married for only over a year and I have no idea how they got my wifes phone number when they should have called me directly??????  My wife is from Europe and she asked me what it was all about and very nervous.  I said I have no idea and I will google it, so I found this forum.  Then she asked why is it that there are so many useless scammers in this country? Can't those people work for a living instead of trying to rip people off??  I have since recently called the bank I received the credit card from 6 years ago and they informed me that they do not sell old accounts anyway and that is part of their agreement.  The thing that makes me nervous is their ability to call my wife,,,, I feel very prone to identity theft again.. I used to have a 765 FICO, after identity fraud it went to a 489,,,,, It is now 2011 and I'm finally at low 600's again.  Please people protect your information extremely well... It has taken me 5 years of sorrow and hard work to clean up those thieves BS.  I have even begged the SS administration for a new ssn#.  One of their employees saw my distress and actually wrote a letter pleading my case saying that I have all documentation to support giving me a new ssn#.......  Point is, give these people no information.  I would not provide them with anything.  Good luck and stay sharp..

They appear to operate like this:
From above comment, they buy old uncollected debt claims.
Call saying they represent a county that has a summons to deliver, making it sound ominous.
Give case # and call back (866-676-2139).
Try to get the debtor to pay.
They called me asking for the mother of a former roommate.  How they linked her to my phone number is a mystery.  I forwarded this info to my old roommate and she gave me the link to this site.
Later when I called them they identified themselves as Maple Filing Services.  When I confronted them about using fraudulent methods they said "outsource" claims to others who call people and have no responsibility for that.  I'm sure that was a lie.  They claim to coordinate the service of papers, but couldn't explain what that meant.  Normally if someone has a civil suit filed against them, a process server merely locates them and serves them in person, so this explanation makes no sense.
Bottom line:  collection agency using fraudulent methods to collect; questionable it they're even collecting on behalf of the party owed money.
Of course, the best thing is to pay your debts!

After reading these posts I understand why a person pretending to be a process server called my home  to supposedly serve papers on a family member 1400 miles away. I was really anxious that there was big trouble brewing, but it sounds like they are scammers. Thanks for the heads up, everybody.

Ahh Maple filing services! I recieved same scam over the last few days. Vickie corona aka anna corona appears to be the heavy hitter in this one and from research above you'll see that their corprate address is a  UPS  Box 1911 Magnolia st.Corona Ca.Be careful as these people are indeed vicious and extremely rude when confronted. They indicate that a civil judment has been filed. I checked with local Superior Court in Ca. and surprise surprise no judgement has been filed! They do actually ask for an appointment to serve you! REFUSE! They will also call friends loved one's and people you hardly know with the same line REFUSE THEM! . This is major harrassment and you may want to consult with a lawyer regarding a harrassment suit but personally I think this won't get far as these are pros and they are very slippery! I strongly urge you to go to the federal trade commision site and file a complaint as they are the ones who can file sanctions and criminal charges if there are enough complaints.Other than that just remember that this is their fault and not yours. They are trying to collect old or false debt that is uncollectable by preying on your fear. FEAR NOT! But file the FTC Complaint.

Yes ... a friend just had this happen. The woman (representative) was VERY friendly and sympathetic. She reeled my friend right in. My friend gave her checking acct. # to pay $500 for a bill that wasn't even hers. My friend wondered if a wayward relative had maybe used her info to get a credit card back in 2006 ... and therefore paid it. The rep. was very "sweet" when she said my friend could avoid paying if she swore out a warrant on her relative. Of course my friend didn't want to do this. They called my friend's WORK leaving a message they were going to serve a court summons on MONDAY (this was Friday) unless this was resolved immediately. My friend was panicked. This "representative" was very smooth. She kept putting my friend on hold saying she was trying to negotiate with the company on her behalf. She is wondering who else to report this to. My friend is a professional and ordinarily wouldn't fall for such a scam ... but they were VERY SMOOTH. WATCH OUT !!!

They called my girlfriend's sister's house stating that they had been looking for me to serve me with legal papers.  They claim to be a document processing agency and apparently all they do is assist debt collectors with legal documents to prepare for a lawsuit agains you.  They will also say they are from your county courthouse and give you all kinds of information to make you think so too.  This is a scam and don't let them intimidate you with lies.
