- seastarClaim to be a debt collector saying their website is WWW.Pro Source Servicing Williamsville NY. Unfortunately my sister fell prey on March 4th 2017. Not even 30 days later they tried again on another cash advance loan debt. Bells and whistles went off and knew she'd been scammed on the first one when she told me what happened. Sad these low life people prey on the elderly and vulnerable. Fortunately for her, bank put the money back in her account. Law enforcement notified.

- SrLady called saying she would be serving me papers within the next 24 hours and I needed photo ID and signature. A private investigator hired from my county. Hahahahaha. Left a message on the machine. Since when do people call to let you know they're going to serve you? And an ID? Well, I guess I'll just have to see if someone from new York really wants to come all the way to idaho to try to scam me. Whatever.

- HollyI received a phone call last week from an unknown number stating they were a 3rd party company notifying me that I needed to be served a summons for court. That I had a payday loan debt back in 2004 from a time when I lived in Florida. I did ask the name of the loan place and they gave me one, but I'm not familiar with it. They then said they would transfer me to the legal department. A nice lady was on the phone and said she'd contact the company on my behalf to try and settle the debt out of court. I was on hold for 20 minutes and then she said I could do 4 installments or agree to pay half the debt to clear it. It was from a time I lived in Florida, but nothing shows up on my credit report. And, sadly, I think I paid another scammer a few weeks ago with the same story. I'm afraid that the debt could be real, but I'm also afraid of being scammed. They say the debt was for $1400 (and some change). I called the number on a Sunday and got just the standard lines of please enter your extension. Can anyone confirm if they are real?

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment[/b]
Note that the US Supreme Court in the Case of HENSON ET AL. v. SANTANDER CONSUMER USA INC., has recently ruled that the provisions of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act do not apply if the creditor owns the debt in question. As a practical matter this probably won't effect the kinds of scam debt collectors who often show up on 800notes. The scam collectors don't give you any information about themselves so it is impossible to know whether or not they in fact "own" the debt in question. Most do not send debt validation letters and many often say they are collecting for someone else. So, make the complaint anyway if they are bothering you. Let the FTC sort it out.

If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.
You have to get tuff with these people because, being akin to thugs, brute force is, (metaphorically speaking), the only thing they understand. - Anita Foster replies to Josiah| 1 replyThey called from an unknown number and left a message. - TkCRGot a phone call from a P.I. named Amy Collins saying I will be served papers to an address I have not lived at in years or my employer. She left a case number and 866-343-6290 number. Called said number and it's some 7yr old debt I been paid. So I told her I will be calling my bank to get a copy of my old statement which I knew would take a min to go back that many yrs. I told her that it will probably take the bank a min so give me 2wks. She put me on hold saying she has to check with the original creditor, yeah ok. Lol, so it being ok, lol. I call the original creditor and there is no file BC it's paid. So I call back and WOW!! No one is answers the call now. Hmm, so yes I left a msg. Told them by law I am entitled to receive a debt validation letter explaining said debt. And I expect to receive one by next week oh and gave them my Attorneys name and address and phone number. Since I'm already in a lawsuit, would love to add you guys to the list. And if I find my bank account in any way touched, I promise you it won't be pretty. Yall have a very nice day.
