These people are calling my mother's house (where I haven't lived in almost two years) leaving threatening messages. They won't leave a name or a business they are associated with, just that it was a 'courtesy call' and that if I didn't call them back that they would be at my home or work place between 1 and 7 on Friday. I don't even live in the same state as my mother anymore. So they obviously don't know where to look. My mother plans on reporting this.

Has anyone ever actually had them follow through with the threats to serve?

This Michael guy supposedly has my name and is going to serve with me with papers on Friday between 1-7 (left a message). My question is where do these people think they would serve me, and for what exactly? This is a scam, block the number. Looks like they threaten a lot of people on here with the "Friday between 1-7" bit. Yeah right.

Just so everyone knows, its completely and totally illegal for collection agencies to threaten to sue you, or threaten to have you arrested.  Its against the fair debt collection laws.  These a***oles somehow got the number for my grandfather who I have never lived with or had any communication with business wise.  Weirdos.  I dont get how if they are a legit company, they dont have access to my updated information.  If they threaten you in ANY WAY, tell them they are violating the fair debt collection practices act and hang up on them.  Threaten legal action against THEM if they continue to harrass and threaten you! Read more here.  https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Its also illegal for them to call your work and harrass you. If they keep calling you at work, you actually may be able to turn around and sue them.  They CANNOT call you at work, unless you give them permission to!  They also cannot threaten to garnish wages, ect.  Also, in most states, if the debt is older than 7 years, they cannot legally collect the debt through court.  So make sure you check the date of the debt in question.  These bottom feeder collectors thrive off uninformed people.  Know your rights!

Oh come on.  Is that the best you can do?  REAL process servers do not call you ahead of time - they just show up.  No one is buying your fairy tale.

Total nonsense.  You're a kitchen-table debt scammer working out of some house in a run-down or near run-down neighborhood.   You're fooling nobody with your serve threats.

How do you know you even owe that debt?  Did they prove it to you as required by law?  Probably not if they are calling your relatives repeatedly which is also against the law.
This is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, etc. all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
