read the comments out here .. and i think that collection calls cannot be avoided by putting the number in do not call list.. and reading the commments out here.. it can be understood that they are not solicitors or telemarketers..

I contacted my local police department and they said to NEVER give out personal information over the phone.  Contact your local police agency to complain.  There is a case open with SJPD and I figure the more people "officially" complain, the sooner the calls can stop.  I stopped receiving calls from this number a couple months ago and they are starting again.  I've been told to contact SJPD if the calls continued.  (guess who i'm emailing next?!?)

File a compalin for identity theft in your nearest police station. and send a copy of same to them.

I got a call with similar numbers:
Call from 800-697-1234, automated message asking me to call back 800-853-0322.  I called back, person answering had no idea who I was and was obviously searching some directoory looking for match to my name.  

Day before, got a strange similar call referring to ambulance servcice and debt collection for service that my dad used 4-5 years ago.  They seemed to have a lot of information about my previous addresses, which is very scary.  They requested my credit card number to clear the debt.  Right then I suspected this was a scam.

I received the same message, called them back. It was regarding an ambulance ride they said I took four years ago, which never happened. They had all my correct information, but incorrect address. They told me that this would reflect badly on my credit report, which I just ran two weeks ago, and it is not on there. Not quite sure what to do.

They asked for that info .. as they have all info with them .. now pay your bills like a good boy.

It's possible someone is using your identity for medical purposes. I would suggest you determine the hospital the ambulance went to and see if the hospital has any records for the same date in your name.

They said it was personal information matter and very urgent. When a return call was placed, they could not provide any insight on what the call was regarding or any valid information. I asked if it was a sales call and mentioned we are on the do not call list. The woman 'Kimberly Stewart' said it was not a sales call and an urgent matter.

A man with an Indian accent, calling himself "Shane," called for my mother. They had called once before. When I called them back, I got a woman with an INdian accent. I asked her why "Shane" wanted to speak to my mother. She said it was a personal matter. I then told me my mother was deceased and again asked why they were contacting her. She said she couldn't tell me but I had to give her my mother's birthdate as verification. I said I would do no such thing and again demanded to know why they called my mother. I also said I would not give her any information because I "do not know who you are and I don't give any information out on the phone to strangers. She said "no problem. You won't get any more calls."

This is a collection agency who keeps calling for someone I do not know.  I have asked to be removed from their list but they keep calling every few weeks for a different person.  The person I spoke to gave his name man gave his name as Sam Park.

I've called this number a couple of times and it always seems to be the same guy answering the phone.  Also, the ambulance company American Medical Response has no record of the trip.

Has anyone put off payment to this collection agency and seen an action taken against their credit report?

even i thought this guys are cammers at first...
even i abused and threatened them at times, untill i got the call from this guy...
he introduced him self as sam...askd how am doin..when said its abt ambulance things i started abusing him to...
at the end of it he asked are u relifed now..i said yes..he jst asked to take down his number and a date...
and asked me to pull off my credit report and see it...
i done and , yes it was their, which made me panic.
i called back and he was their to help me...
as i was abt to go for a surgery he kept this on hold for a week
when called in again..he gave me the maximum settlement and helped me to settle it...
he is very caring and made a point to ask abt my health every day...
he said he is from india and work over night..
his name is sam park...his voice is cute..
a smart chap..and a help full heart..!

American Medical Response can't find any detail about the trip.  The person calling hasn't, can't, or won't give a trip number.  I contacted Bay Area Credit via e-mail about this being a potential scam and they don't seem to reply.  I can only conclude that this is a scam because I have no official document to substantiate the collection.

Be careful what you read on this thread.  I think someone is trying to convince people that this is legit.  The post from Barbara Wright seems to be a good example.  Anyway, I'm going to leave this issue alone now.  I will post updates if any.
