Its a revenue Canada debt collection agency phone number.  I called Rev Canada first and they verified it for me. If you don't feel comfortable calling that number don't.  Call the one listed on the CRA's website which is 1-866-864-5823 I believe.  Verify on their website.

A call to 1-800-O-Canada (The Fed's info line) verify's that this is indeed a CRA call centre number.

You can also check with phone busters. www.phonebusters.com, the RCMP's anti-phone fraud unit.

This unfortunately is not a scam.

I do not trust this at all and your a fool if you give out any info over the phone, they are calling you, you do not have to prove anything to them.  This how identity theft happens.  All they should do is ask if they are speaking to "insert your name here" and then proceed. And if they are calling you then they are required under law to send you a letter at least a week in advance of that call.  That letter has a reference number on it for your case.  There is no need to give out any personal information and certianly not your SIN number to these people.

A guy called saying he's from Canada Revenue Agency asking for my birthday. I didn't give him any info and told him I'm not comfortable giving it.  So he told me to call the main line 1-866-864-5825 and they can help me. I called the main line and there's another person, he said that he can't pull up my records and if it's really important then the government will call me again.  DON'T give out any information to anybody.  I always check the internet for any unknown name or company that's calling me before returning any call.

same sorda thing for me... called saying they needed to update their files... well the canada revenue agency knows exactly where i am i do my taxes every year... so this is a scam .. never give your information over the phone.

I recieved a message on my cell - from 886-864-5935 and the messager asked me to call back "--5825"
I called back both numbers and got the same answer machine message sounding very real like it is the Canadadian revinue $#@%$$*  But as this happened close to their closing time on a friday I have some doubts, I will call the 1 800 number listed  on monday and if not resolved I will inform RCMP

I have gone the the CRA's website to locate contact information for them as I too have recieved a voicemail from 886-864-5935 stating it was the CRA and requesting that I contact them back ASAP by calling: 1-866-864-5825.  When I tried at that phone# it said Canada Revenue Agency ( blah blah) then that the call may be monitored for quality purposes.  A lady requested my SIN right away. When I advised her that I was not comfortable providing her with that information she asked for it again.   I restated that I would not provide it over the phone and then in a snappy tone she said "Well I can't help you then!"  That ended the call there.  The phone # I've tried from the CRA site has given a busy tone 3 times in the past 15 min.

HI there.  I have just reported to the RCMP that I got a call from someone reporting to be from the Canada Revenue Agency.  They did not identify why they were calling and began asking for personal information.  I objected and they said I could call 18668645825 and provide my SIN there.  Since the number does not show up on 411 as a government number, I have reported this call.  I am with you guys.. this sounded strange as I have not received any mail indicating there was any contact trying to be made.

My son got a strange voicemail that sounded like a man robot stating for him to call 1-866-864-5825 and that it was Canada Revenue Agency and he to provide his client ID number (perhaps his SIN?)  Well, that is just so impersonal I believe it is probably a scam.  I told my son to wait for a letter or something as he has to clue why they would be calling.  He may call the RCMP when he returns from out of town.

Scam. Call the real Canada revenue agency and find out if they are trying to get a hold of you.  Do not deal with these people.

Never give your info out over the phone.

I have been receiving calls on both my home and cell phone from "Private numbers" and the messages have been instructing us to call back one of two numbers depending on the message, either to call 8663517615 or 8668645825 and that they are from the Canada Revenue Agency. As we have not received any letters we have not returned the calls. This does have the markings of SCAM wrote all over it so I am having my husband (whom they keep calling for) call the Canada Revenue Agency themselves and see if there is any reason they would be trying to contact him.

I got this voice massage last Saturday,

"THIS IS CANADA REVENUE AGENCY, PLEASE CALL  US MONDAY @ 1 866 864 5825"

I believe  CRA, contacts people professionally if & when needed via mail.
In this universe of  signal schemes telephones cannot be trusted anymore.

I am pretty sure it is in regards to defaulted student loans.

Contacted the ACTUAL CRA and this INDEED a SCAM! They confirmed it.  It is NOT one of their numbers and they are very aware of this scam going around.  DO NOT GIVE YOUR INFORMATION

I just got a call from the CRA asking for my DH. They refused to tell me what they were calling about. DH is not available. So they asked to leave a number for DH. It was 1-866-864-5825.

This has all the signs of a debt collection agency - probably DH's student loan.
The last time we got tricked into talking was when someone claiming to be from the RBC talked me into putting my DH on the phone. DH was not happy at me for not screening properly and now anyone who wont tell me their name or department is assumed to be a debt collector and a liar.

Of course this is a CRA number.  I work for Canada Student Loans and I refer people that have defaulted on their student loans to that number each day.  I even transfer them myself to this number.  Anyone which has a student loan or any other loan from a HRSDC program (such as EI) can call that number to arrange payments.

I received a call from someone who is claiming agent of CRA, she left message and this number to call back(8668645825). I was very suspicious then found this website, I called the CRA and the agent told me to call RCMP to report since they don't recognize the number as one of their numbers. The fake agent insisted my SIN# told him I never received a letter from CRA and I don't have a code number and i don't give my SIN over the phone unless is CRA then he hung-up.

Yeah it is.   [***] off back to frogland.

This phone number is for the CRA collections call centre in Ontario, and if they are phoning and asking you to call back this number, it is in regards to an outstanding balance owing on a CANADA STUDENT LOAN. If the person being called is receiving their monthly statements of account (which are sent to the last address on file for the student), they will see this contact phone number on their statement. It is not a scam.
