In BC.  Got this call from credit assistance company.  Due to a dispute over charges with a telephone company, was referred to credit agency.  Issue was resolved without it affecting my credit but since then have been getting numerous calls from debt consolidation companies.  I am ANGRY that debt recovery companies are selling my contact info.

I just called them back at the same number and pressed 7 automated service then spoke to an actual person to be removed from their call list. I'll see if that works.

If your phone # is the white pages then the "Do Not Call List" will not apply especially scammers who often change their #'s...the only way to stop unwanted calls is to get your # privatized or change it and also privatize it.

Calling us here too, but when I answered, they chose not to speak. Nothing! So I told them I didn't have time for this and hung up!

I call back to ask the person to remove my number from the call list,he did, but he was really rude. who wants their service if they are acting so bad?

Nobody is selling your info Mini Mom .... these are computer generated calls. The scum who are running this fraud don't know anything about you. I got a call from them this morning and I don't have a lick of debt or have had anything referred to any credit agency, court etc.

These are criminals who have a sophisticated computer program that will generate endless possible telephone numbers. Then they get some creepy little scum sitting in a call-centre sweat shop who is running the program. When you pick up the phone they start their recorded message. It is robo-calling and it is illegal. Not only that, they call people on the DNC list....that should also tell you they are criminals who believe they are above the law.

Best advice is what an earlier poster said....if you don't know the number (and especially for 800 888 866 numbers!!!) don't pick up. Any credible, bona fide company will also make their company name available as they have nothing to hide.

Actually, Deanna, "privatizing" your number won't achieve much at all. Hardly any of these creeps uses a telephone book to call people up. They use computer generated numbers.

For example, they can decide that today they will rob people in Manitoba. So they put the number 204 in for the area code. Then, the telephone company will happily help them out and tell them all of the exchanges that are in use (the next three numbers in the 10-digit phone number) ..... such as 222. After that, the computer doesn't have to do much work at all except to put together random strings of 4 digit numbers for the last four numbers (for example, 204-222-1111). Once they bother all the people who are on the 222 exchange, they will move on to say the 224 exchange.

So if you decide to change your phone number, don't get your expectations up. Sooner or later you will get calls again.

They called again (still didn't pick up). I did a check on this company (Ontario Consumer Credit Assistance). Yes...it's a lucrative scam for OCCA ..... they are scamming people who are in financial trouble and charging them $900 for what amounts to worthless advice (or no advice)...they take the money and run. They are trolling for victims all the time by calling all over the country and annoying people.

I am in PEI and on the DNC list (I believe this list has been sold off!!!) Get these creditor calls at least 3 times per week, I never answer but it goes to voicemail. The DNC was supposed to stop these types of calls but I understand that the government have sold this list to "interested parties" and therefore the people on the DNC list are now on a call list.....go figure that one!

This number is using the white pages to call . My mother's number is next to me in the phone book and she lives downstairs...my phone rings first then hers. This is not legit. So when they ask for the person  listed in the phone book say "just a sec" and find a bell ,fog horn, etc... and ring it really hard into the phone until they hang up....they used to call me every day and for a while they stopped altogether until today...did the same thing with a bicycle horn so Im hoping that'll be it :)

That's exactly what my family thinks also that the Do Not Call list is a trick..I have heard and read that so many people on the Do Not Call lists are bothered a lot more than ever now. So my advice also is to, not to join the Do Not Call lists because it's a big joke... doesn't work at all. Best thing to do is invest in call display for a small monthly fee and then you won't have to answer (any calls) unless it's your family members or close friends, that's it.....that's what my own family has done now for the past 2 years or more, peace at last - L.O.L.

They don't use the white pages, or at least not just the white pages to call. They just called my cell phone today, which is private to all but my contact list.

I'm getting tired of all these crazy calls. I have a baby to take care of and having to run to the phone constantly is starting to puss me off. I do live my ignore button though

This is a "collection agency".

There's a good chance that you have some debt somewhere, and the agency has forwarded your phone number to this company to call you automatically and annoy you beyond compare. This is the strategy behind ALL debt collection agencies.

Remember: if the debt was incurred more than two years ago, they cannnot collect anymore. All of these 'unrecoverable debts" (as creditors call these) get sold to for pennies to the dollar to small debt collection agencies. They thrive and make their money out of debts that have exceeded the 2-year term, by harrassing the victims until they break - in most cases breaking the law. Always remember it is YOUR right to not tell anything - so refrain from giving any sort of information. MOST IMPORTANTLY, clearly state that you DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE the debt, because as soon as you do, it will give them the legal right to claim the debt for a duration of 2 years (the term gets renewed).

Have now received 3 calls (26th, 27th & 31st) on my cell phone which is not even published yet??  I don't use that cell but for traveling only and haven't had it for very long.  I don't use voice mail so am wondering how I might get them to stop phoning that number?  I am already on the DNC list, have been since they introduced it.

Forgot to add that I have absolutely no outstanding nor current debts of any kind either.

I'm also receiving calls from them on my cellphone, I'm in Newfoundland, and have no oustandings debts. I have a job and am paying off student loans but there is no collection agency after me. This call is straight up harassment, that's my personal cell-phone number.
