no idea what to do, help!!! replies to Sophisticated Consumer
after several rude, mean and awful phone calls, i finally spoke to someone at the company who seemed kind of nice, it was probably because i was practically in hysterics crying from the last caller who had hung up on me, I then called back and got the man who seemed nice.  I complained about the people at his company he pretended to care and calmed me down.  The debt is from a 500$$ credit card that I stopped paying 3 years ago because I lost my job.  He managed to get my bank info from me and also the place at which i work.  BIG MISTAKE on my part!! I am already closing the bank account, after I realized the have already taken 25$$ out of it.  I dont know what, if anything I can do next to get them to leave me alone, seeing they have already got a little bit of money out of me.  PLEASE, anyone with any info please tell me what I should do, I am young, and sooo confused!!!

I have been dealing with these people since July of 2010.  I have given them a total of 3200.00 so far and it never ends.  I don't know where to turn anymore.  They are the most horribly people to deal with.  The person I have been talking to is Jim Brayson, a real sly, fast talker.  Where do I go from here?

My uncle who I havent spoken to in years called and left a message on my house phone saying that Yolanda had called him trying to get ahold of me over a complaint that someone had filed against me and said that I had used their number as a person of reference or some crap like that. He gave me the number she wanted me to call her back at and it was 1-866-897-9080. I dont understand how they got his phone number because I havent talked to him in about 10 years. I dont even have his number. I called the number back with the ext. that I was given and left a message for them. What do they do flip through the phonebook and pick out people who have the same last name as me, then call them and ask them to try to get ahold of me? That is pure stupidity if you ask me. About 5 mins before I called the number back a 714 number called and all that was on the caller ID was santa ana cali. I didnt answer it but Im assuming it is the same people. I want them to stop calling me, they call from several different numbers on a daily basis and its getting on my nerves. They arent getting any information out of me because I have someone taking care of all my debt.

    looking for my husband
they called my cell today looking for my husband...called them back told them they have the wrong number and supposedly they took my cell number out of there system.  If the debt they are calling about is over 7-10 yrs which i am sure this one is do not dicuss or make any arrangements as it starts the statues of limitations over from the day you speak with them.  Once anything is written off from a company they sell them to people like these that try to make the money.  The company that you owed the original bill to sells it to people like this for pennies on the dollar....it sucks for us...but do not give any info or indicate that you know the  bill.....

I also received a call from this number.  Again, a very strong threatening male voice, unidentified, said that if I didn't return their call by 10 am tomorrow, there would be no need to call them back.  It would be too late.  He said he was from DCS.  I have several debts which I am trying to resolve, but I have no idea who DCS is.

I also got a call from a "Mike" he was rude and only said he was from DCS, he told me if I don't call by tomorrow at 10am there would be no need to call him back at all. He was been calling quite a bit but I have yet to speak with him. After reading all these comments, I know that this is probably a scam. I have not been able to make any payments on my over-due debt for close to 3 years now, and have never heard a message so rude before..

Just got a very rude message left on my business phone that was JUST installed - looking for an ex-boyfriend who I've not talked to in 8 years.  I told them this was a business line and that they can not call anymore and they laughed and hung up.  Then they called back three more times in 10 minutes.

Recieved a call AGAIN today. It was a voice message that was very rude: we have left several messages for you and if you don't call back by tomorrow at 10 am don't even bother.  HUH? what is that supposed to mean?  I have not recieved any other messages.  Full of crap is what they are!

This company NOW goes by the name CCS just so you all know!

The person they are looking for is not me, I believe they are skip tracing for someone they think I am related to. They have even called my parents in attempts to skip trace this person who is NOT related to us.  They were very rude and had no proof to support their claims.

I generally ignore these stupid calls but it is beyond annoying at this point!!!!!     how the heck do I get them to stop calling me?   any ideas?

My sister got calls from the so called " Law firm " a Todd Shaw or Mr Snow leaving messages that I needed to retain a lawyer that they had attempted to have me serve twice ( funny ) since I have a mailbox number and can't serve me there. Everytime I call the number if goes to someone else
e voicemail. When I asked for verification of debt they hung up on me. I called back and was said " GET LOST " and they were a legal law firm. Haven't heard from them since. I have already contacted a consumer lawyer to start legal proceedings for harrassment and abuse of Fair Trade Act threatening me with a fake lawsuit and using scare tactics which is against the law. ]

CONTACT KROHN & MOSS they have sued WorldWide recoveries several times for these same issues and they keep doing them. IF you owe an amt with/ or did a bank or other contact them directly.

I made the mistake of giving them a small payment up front and them research them afterwards. I cancelled my credit card/debit card, called a consumer lawyer and the court house in my state to determine whether there is a real suit against me.

FRAUD thats what they are all about.

They are still at it.  Yesterday I received a voice mail saying that I needed to respond by 10 am today or they couldn't help me.

I called back at the 714-380-5375 number they left and asked for a company name and address they refused.  Got very forceful with me when I would not identify myself.  Hung up on me after I told him that he was a 'effing' idiot.

They called me back threatening me on my voice mail (I don't answer unknown, blocked or long distance calls I don't recognize).

I called again and was told they were going to take my property because of a loan I took out.  I said to myself ahhhhhhh I know what this about.  I tried to explain that in 2004/2005 timeframe I was the victim of identy theft and I had a police report.  He said bull effing sheeeeetz and that no police report existed.  I went on to request proof of a valid debt and he refused.  Over 4 calls later I still was trying to obtain a company name and address.  I finally called and asked for it again and they guy said this is a secure facility and that he was an officer of the court and they don't just give out that information.  I said whatever and hung up.

When I googled I found tons of complains and information so I filed with my Attorney General's office, I found an address in Santa Ana, CA and filed with the CA Attorney General's office as well as the FTC.

I got a final call from a Mr. Brison.  I asked him how it was spelled and he said with English letters.  Gave me a fax number to send my police report to and if it was dated prior to 4/11/11 he'd accept it.  I faxed a Cease and Desist letter with the police report and advise them I was sending the letter via Certified Return Receipt Mail (FYI I've heard that they refuse the mail but at least I'll have proof I tried).

I have not heard from them today (yet).

Do not let them scam you.  They cannot take your property.  They can put a lein on the property if and only if a court grants them that.  They cannot garnish your wages unless the court grants them that.  (believe me before when I was young and stupid and what caused me to have to file bankruptcy I know about suits from creditors).

If they file suit they will file in the state where you live.  You will be served by an officer of your local court system and given a court date before anything even begins to happen.

Also check your statute of limitations on unsecured debt.  Most is 3-5 years so even if you have had the debt it may be long past where they could go after you.

So I'll be 18 in a few days so I don't feel bad posting on here. They called my house today and left a very rude message exactly like the ones the last few people above received. "if you do not call by ten am tomorrow then there will no longer be a need to" Unfortunately, since the man who called didn't identify himself or for whom he was calling and had a very gruff voice, I thought he said it was from CPS. I called my mom and told her, it took listening to the message a few times to realize he was saying CCS. I told her it was CCS. She was flipping out asking me to send her the number to call back, I'm glad I got online first. I've warned her not to give them any work, home, or banking information, but gave her the number since she insisted. I told her about the scams and tactics I read on here. I called them back and no one answered so I plan on calling back later (since they never specified who the call was for) and seeing what they have to say to me (since I'm only a minor) so hopefully I can help in stopping them by adding my complaint. This is ridiculous, my mom is not the type to research these things and could have easily given them her info if she had not been warned it was fake.

I received a threatening message yesterday (04/20/2011) and returned the call this morning.

They were looking for a woman named Consuela Bariato--whom I have never heard of.  I explained that I have had this number since 1991, and asked that they put me on their "Do Not Call List."  I also said, that the message received was rather threatening, and especially considering this was not my debt, I felt it was really inappropriate.

The man replied "our phone calls aren't meant to be nice--they are meant to be threatening, because it gets a response out of people.  And see?  It worked.  You called us back, you [***]".

He then slammed the phone down and hung up on me.  I filed a report with the FEC, but I am furious.  If this were my debt, then fine--I could accept being treated horribly.  But, it's not even mine!

Received a phone call from an "Unknown" and "Private" number on my house and cell phone yesterday. Spoke with a David Murdoch who immediately said I was to be subpoenaed on Monday by a Sheriff's Dept. officer unless he and I could reach a settlement agreement on a past debt. He was very nice, chit-chatty even. Unfortunately, after a lot of talking by him, I gave him my debit card info to take an initial payment on the 8 year old debt. Had a funny feeling about it and cancelled my debit card. Could not find any information online about CCS & Associates, LLC, which he claimed he was an attorney for. I received an email this morning from a Stephanie La Fortune. The letterhead listed a completely different company - Worldwide Recoveries, LLC. After researching that company, I came across this page. Sent them a cease and desist letter through email and will be sending a certified copy of the letter tomorrow. The number David Murdoch gave me for himself is 951-737-4800, the number he listed in the email is 714-380-5896. This is the address and numbers listed in the letterhead for Worldwide Recoveries, LLC:

    2414 S. FAIRVIEW ST. SUITE 210
    SANTA ANA, CA  92704
     (866) 897-9080
    FAX: (714) 200-0786

You always think things like this won't happen to you. So glad I cancelled my debit card and they didn't get any money out of me. Cannot believe these types of things go on. Good luck to all of you and here's to hoping these guys will not be able to operate for very much longer.

    Louie Nye
Louie Nye is not my real name but I had to put something in there. Everything that follows is the truth.

I have received several calls from this company. They started calling from a "private" number recently. Here are your rights with these "collectors" as well as any legitimate collection agency:

    1. If they call you on your work number, the FDCPA specifically states that if you tell them you are not allowed to receive personal calls at work, they must stop.

    2. They have to notify you in writing per the FDCPA of who they are, who the original creditor is and what the amount is. You also have the right to request in writing that you require that they verify your debt. You must make this request within 30 days and they must stop all collection activities until they provide you with that information. Always send with a signature required so you have proof they received your letter. Unfortunately, these collectors do not have to prove they notiifed you in writing per the FDCA. These folks blamed me that I "must not read my mail". Legitimate companies will do this upfront or will send you another copy if you ask for it.

    3. This company, if they are real, bought your debt for 7 to 10 cents on the dollar. If you owed your orginal creditor $5000, they most likely paid $500 or less for your account.

    4. My guy a few days ago told me he was an "officer of the court" and the sheriff was on his way. I asked him when he expected them to arrive. RELAX, this is a civil matter, not a criminal one. They want your money and if you were in jail, how would they get it? I laughed at him.

    5. If you want no contact, send a "Cease and Desist" letter. There are many version of this on the internet. Again, send with signature required. I have read that these folks will refuse it but you have to try.

    6. You are under no obligation to provide them with any information. My guy wanted the last 4 digits of my SSN and the name and number of my attorney or I would waive my right to have legal representation in the future. Don't believe it. You always have the right to counsel unless you waive it in the courtroom.

    7. I was told I was just "a piece of paper" on his desk and he didn't care if I paid or not". If that was the case, why would he continue to call? HE IS ON COMMISSION and only makes money if you send it.

    8. Is it just me or will these folks never tell anyone who is the "original creditor"? They have to tell you if you ask. Additionally, when you answer and confirm who you are, they must inform you that they are a debt collector and trying to collect a debt. Has anyone gotten either piece of this information from WWR?

    9. I was threatened with IRS action. If you do settle a debt with a legitimate collection firm, the money that was written off is sent to the IRS and you will receive a Form 1099. However, there is a tax form you can complete that if you legitimately have more debts than assets, the write-off will not be taxable income. Consult your tax advisor.

    10. Last but not least, remember that companies like this prey on the weak and uninformed. Learn your rights and you will be in a much better position to determine the legitimacy of the company calling you. I unfortunately ran into financial problems the past few years and have had to deal with a number of collection firms. Most I have dealt with have been upfront and professional. Some, like WWR, try to intimidate, talk you down and take control of the situation so they can dictate terms to you. You have rights too so do your research and learn to stand up for yourself.

Here is a great website to learn more about your right. Just copy and paste it into your browser:

    www.creditcards.com/credit-card-news/help/fai ... es-act-6000.php

For you wrestling fans, doen't WWR kind of sound like the WWE? And we all know wrestling is real, don't we?

It appears WWR monitors this site so let's see what posts they give to refute my comments and advice.
