I got a call from this number, in which I'm told I owe child support. However, I've never had kids. When I called it back, it asked for my social security number in order to check up on my case.  In case this is a scam, don't give the social security number to see if you got mixed up with someone with your number. you didn't, this is just a scam to make you think your social number has been used by someone so you'll punch it in when the machine at the number asks for it.

I didn't put my social number in and waited for a clerk to answer when I called back, and he obviously was full of [***] when he said "Well, it's just a state agency randomly going around finding anyone on a list and saying they owe child support". Not true. A state agency will only contact those on a list who are factually known to owe child support.

So, do'nt put in your social number. That's what this scam is: how to get you excited that someone misused your informaiton and ptu you as owing their child support with your ID, then if you by this, your suppose to enter your social number to find out if you really have a case. Don't put in your social security number. You're ID did'nt really get mixed up. If you really did get mixed up with someone who really does owe child support, you would get written letters and it would be more obvious, not just a call on your cell phone.

I receive phone calls from this number on a daily basis.  I don't answer it because of telemarketers.  Well for some reason today i decided to do a google search for the phone number.  Here is a link for the company that it goes back to http://www.lasoc.com/FindHelpDetails.aspx?Id=21.  It is showing a legal website for the orange county family divison DA.  If it really was the courts system they would not call every day at the same time. ALSO i only have 1 kid and I am still married to the father.

I got a call from this number, 866-901-3212, today.  Today is Father's Day and might I add Sunday, 10 am.  Would Child Support really be open and making phone calls??  Sounds fishy to me.

Well I guess I should have scrolled farther on my google search.  This # is listed on California's Child Support website.

This number calls over and over.  I do not answer it and they leave no message.  My husband and I got full custody of his kids when they were 2 and 3 years old.  They are now both over 21.  Their mother filed false welfare cases in 2 states claiming she has the kids and we have had a multitude of problems since including phone and utility bills she put in their names.  I see that a lot of comments are about child support and I would not doubt if that is what it is about for us too.  She owes us 16 years of child support.  Maybe I will answer it next time just to clear it up.

Our children are in their 30s, and my husband and I are still married.  How random can they possibly get?  We are also on the National Do Not Call Registry.  If this really is a government entity, it goes a long way toward explaining why we're in such trouble economically today.  Get rid of the incompetents, please!!!

Was expecting a call from child support, so followed up on a call from this number.  It is California Child Support.  AND THEY DO ASK FOR YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. Despite what their web site might say.  Your S.S.# is how the automated system retrieves your account.  Seems like there should be a better way.

No one has suggested that this number is being spoofed. It may be the actual number of the DCSS, but phishers have a way of pretending they are calling from someone else's number.
As is true for many of the other posters, there is no reason for DCSS to be calling my number. My number hasn't belonged to anyone else for 38 years so they couldn't be using an old number for someone else with children under 18.
Please don't ever give out personal information to someone who calls you. Don't even answer the phone for unknown callers.
DCSS should look into this to see who is using them for scamming.
