Called my phone only once so far, but this is the third phone call I've received from an 866 number. My theory is, if it's important, they will leave a message. It must not be important, as neither number has left one.

I started receiving odd calls starting on Monday, June 25th after I notices 9 internet transactions on my bank statement.  I am in the process of having all of this corrected and now have to cancel my bank cards and await new ones being reissued.  Odd it is all happening at once to so many people!

I got the same thing today. They called once this morning, and once just reently. I didn't answer either because the number was unrecognizable and if it was important a message would be left.

They called two times.  First time, left no message.  Second time I picked up and said hello.  A lady asked for me and I immediately said "you are calling a cell number, which does not except any solicitation calls". I quickly lost the call.  I did check my bk acct to make sure I didn't get any charges.

[***]...there's a good chance they got me. It was quite elaborate and quite lengthy, but I'm pretty sure they have my card number and expiration date. I was under the impression that you needed the three digit number on the back of the credit card to really use it electronically...but now I doubt that's the case.

Basically they call you to let you know that just by using any major credit card you've been made a finalist in the Dream Come True Sweepstakes. That's a legitimate sweepstakes, but I doubt they are actually representing it. What they don't tell you is that just by picking up the phone, you've agreed to be a member of the sweepstakes, which is fine and dandy. They then ask you for a lot of information that you believe is part of the sweepstakes, but in reality is for them to sign you up to a magazine subscription service plan.

One paid magazine subscription plus 4 or more, free of charge for 60 months. It comes out to 3.99 a week for the 60 months, but they offer you numerous payment plans. It still comes out to a lot of money.

What I don't understand is how elaborate the whole thing is, assuming it's a trick. Even after getting my credit card number they still tried to offer me cheap payment plans because I was expressing hesitation at spending so much money on the plans. In the end I told them I wasn't interested. They said I would still be a part of the sweepstakes but kept trying to have me accept one of the other payment plans.

I kept refusing...now here's the weird part. They got 'attitude'y with me. The woman started telling me she makes an hourly wage and knows she does a good job when I started questioning her reasons for continuing. I told her I was sure she was being incessant because she 'needs to make a sale' and that was her response.

In the end they said they'd remove the information, thanked me for my time, and wished me luck in the contest.

Anyone think I should cancel my card now?

Another one of them called back in order to get feedback on the customer service representatives. They gave their name, they're a member of Century Marketing. I got the call from Montana...dunno if that's going to affect my phone bill.

Anyway, I lied and told the woman that the customer service reps were kind and polite and asked again to have my information removed. She offered a SIXTH previously unknown payment plan for the magazines to which I refused and then she asked again why I would refuse, hinting that my decision didn't make sense (she was a moron).

So yeah, just a company telemarketing magazine subscriptions for ridiculous fees that cost a lot more than how they initially advertise it.

I have gotten this call 4 times today and they haven't left a message.  When I call back, it's a busy signal.  I got an email through my MySpace account a couple of days ago saying if I wanted to get an all expense paid trip to see the Rachel Ray show in New York, to fill out the information to win the prize.  It seemed legitimate but after doing so, I started getting a ton of spam in my email from various contests and telemarketing companies.  In the form, they required that I enter a telephone number, in which I put my cell.  Now, today...I got 4 calls from this number.  There is no other way they could have gotten my number except from that contest.  I was stupid to think it was something legitimate, and shame on Rachel Ray for participating in such a misleading marketing campaign.  All in all, it had nothing to do with winning the prize to see her, and only gave my name, number and email address to hundreds of other b.s. companies.  Is there a law against this?  Always beware of these telemarketing scams and who you give your email and number too.  I have definitely learned my lesson with this.
