- John| 7 repliesThey say they're your financial institution and suspect fraud activity, but need your credit card information to verify.
- no name replies to John| 2 repliesI got a call from 919-856-5005 that left a call back number of 1-866-961-1371 from Scott Stevens or Stephens at State employees Credit union on six forks road in Raleigh nc and he wanted to discuss activity on my husband's debit card. He said Felicia McMillan answered the phone when I asked their names. Very fuzzy Muzak on their phones when I was on hold and Felicia wasn't very professional with grammer which made me wonder if they were really SECU. I asked questions about them and did not give them any information. When I called my local branch I was told there were no flags on our cards.
- Boone replies to no nameThanks for the information.....I got the same phone call and got suspicious. It pays to get on the internet and check out these numbers.
I'll go by our local SECU to check out our account, but I don't think it will show any flags.
There will be more and more of these types of fraud to take place. Ask questions to the caller on these types of phone calls. Any verification about you or your account should be done at the local SECU and not over the phone, especially a cordless phone. - Ross| 1 replyThis is the North Carolina State Employees Credit Union Fraud Prevention Department. I received a call from them today and they just wanted to verify that I actually did make some charges on my debit card. They are legit because they NEVER asked me for any personal info except for my first and last name. They just told me the charge amounts and business that charged the card, then asked if I was aware of these charges.

- SeanI called NCSECU about this number and as others have said they reported no hold on my card and that they had detected no fraud, but then they checked with VISA and verified what the person who called from this number had said at that point they transferred me to what the NCSECU operator called "VISA fraud services". The person there identified themselves as "NC State Employees Credit Union fraud protection".
Given that, I believe that this is the number for a company that is working for VISA, or perhaps VISA itself, and handling fraud protection for NCSECU-branded VISA Debit and Credit cards. While they aren't NCSECU, they are a legitimate company. I think that they call themselves NCSECU to minimize confusion, which of course sends the suspicious among us to 800notes.com. :)- Call type: Unwanted
- Erica| 1 replyI paid a bunch of bills (prob close to $700) all in onr fell swoop online, and the said that when several charges come in all at once, they check to make sure it's not fraud. Definitely is NC SECU though. Didn't ask for anything other than my name, and questioned several charges I did this morning.

- DougThis is SECU fraud prevention. They are employees of SECU, just another department. However, when you call into the Call Center, make sure you specify if the suspected fraud is related to your debit card or credit card (if you are aware). These are two differnt systems. Unfortunatly, some employees might not think to check the credit card systems and if that is where the suspected fraud happened then it will be thoroughly noted. But this is probably why SECU said they had no notation of fraud. Bad training.

- Misty MonroeI am the Fraud Prevention Manager for the State Employees Credit Union. I have 16 employees that call from this number to verify suspicious activity on SECU member's debit and credit cards. This is definitely legitimate, and we appreciate every member that calls us back to verify activity. When we are suspicious of the activity we will block the card until we are able to verify, so it is always a good idea to call back!!
Thanks!- Caller: NC State Employees Credit Union
- ColleenI received a call that showed up as 919-856-5005, with a message to call the NCSECU fraud prevention line at 866-961-1371. I did, and at the same time checked my account online--sure enough, there WAS a fraudulent charge posted to my checking account. I probably would have noticed it on my own in a few days as I do a lot of online banking, but I'm so grateful NCSECU caught it early and cancelled my card before more fraudulent charges could show up.

- Eastern NCI got a call from this number, saying they were with Local Gov Emp Credit Union. When I called them back, they were very professional. They said they just wanted to verify some unusual charges on my card. Luckily they did, because there was over $500 charged to my card that I hadn't made. The charges were all to Western Union for money orders. I went to the local branch of the Credit Union, signed an affidavit that I had not made the charges, and got most of my money back. My niece and nephew work for a bank in their fraud section and say charges to Western Union automatically send up red flags.
- Jfed replies to EricaThanks for the useful information.
- NCDefinitely a legitimate number. However, if at any time you are suspicious of the number that is calling you or left on your answering machine, call the number on the back of your card instead. That will direct you to the call center and from there you can ask to be transfered to the fraud department. NEVER give out your pin number, your security number, or expiration date, EVER! SECU will never ask for that information.

- LRG replies to JohnI received a message from this number yesterday asking me to call regarding suspicious activity on my credit card. I called my local credit union first to make sure the 866 number was legitimate. My local branch confirmed there was a fraudulent charge made on my credit card and the 866 number was valid. You can always call your local bank and they can look up your card number and advise you what to do next.
- Kevin| 3 repliesThis is fraud all day & night. My mother received a call from (919) 856-5005 on 06/27/20011. The person she spoke with stated that she had a fraud charge on her card of $49.95. They didn't provided a name or any info. They did state that she would receive a new card & pin soon. I guess they didn't expect anyone to answer the phone. When my mom called back to (919) 856-5005, she didn't give any info but they provided her with this website "www.mypphelp.com" to go to where the charge was made. Went to site & determined it was fake. So I decided to search (919) 856-5005 to see where it originates from. That's when I stumbled onto this page. I then found 866-961-1371. So I called and was given a message that it was the Fraud Prevention Dept of NCSECU. After being put on hold listen to a clip of the music your hear when you call the real NCSECU call center you are connected to the next available rep. Then I was greeted by a rep named Matt. Asked for his ID number & he wouldn't provide it. I agreed that it was ok and ended the call. I called back several times & what a coincidence it was Matt on the line each time. I worked in a call center once & knew that the chances of getting the same rep is a large possibility especially when the company is large. Take note don't callback & provide any info. Call your local NCSECU branch to report or your local Law Enforcement.

- Kevin replies to Kevin| 2 replies*UPDATE*
866-961-1371 is the real number for NCSECU Fraud Prevention Dept but there are some people that hack into the phone system at certain times & pretend to be real NCSECU employees. If you can't get an ID number from the person you speak with they maybe fake. I called later in the day on 06/27/2011 and spoke with a gentleman that provided me with his ID and never once did he ask for my personal info. This time I even heard noise in the background like a call center. If your still skeptical about this call please call your local branch. - Mary| 2 repliesI got a call from that number and they told me the card number was used in Texas (several states away from me). I called nc secu and it is a legitimate service, so yay! Good save!

- CharlieI just got a call from (919) 856-5005 that referred me to call back to 866-961-1371. I read the posts on this page and was therefore armed with healthy skepticism when I called the number. The gentleman who answered only asked for my last name, then first name. He found the suspected fraudulent charges and even told me WHEN they were made and for WHAT amount -- and to WHICH business.
I was looking at the fraudulent charges online, at the same time. And yes, these were fraudulent charges -- almost $160 worth. He also knew the charges were actually on my wife's debit card.
IF we get a new card within the next few days, I'll know the call was totally legit (I believe it is). If not, these are fraudsters w/ access into the NCSECU system.- Caller: NCSECU Fraud Prevention Dept
- The truthLet me make it simple. It's COMPLETELY legit. Check it out however you want, its the NCSECU fraud center.
