- Fraud SquadPart of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions. Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

- Kevin replies to Kevin| 1 reply*UPDATE*
866-961-1371 is a fraudulent number used as part of a phishing scam.
Do not provide any information to this scam and report it immediately to the authorities - you cash is at serious risk here!! - Shill Alert replies to Mary| 1 replyLooks very much like a shill posting here, along with most of the others - normal people don't come to an "unknown" caller site to report that they received a "legitimate call" over and over again.
- Doug1210 replies to KevinI think it's legit. We had the same "Jim" call us, and we called our local bank and customer service. And they made an immediate change to fraudulent charges on our account while we were on the phone.
- DavidHad a semi rude call from a man claiming to be with the NCSECU Fraud division. It was for my son but came to my cell so I thought it might be a scam. He gave me a case # and phone number of 866-961-1371.
When I called back the auto answer seemed legit and said "thanks for calling your credit union". In a couple of seconds a lady came online and I ONLY provided my case #. She asked if I was Mr. XXXX and I said yes. They she then listed the several charges dates, to a debit card. It's my son's card so at this time I don't know if it was fraud or not but I can say that the Phone # or 866-961-1371 is valid and I would return the call. You should NOT have to provide anything but your case #.- Caller: NCSECU Fraud Prevention Dept
- JohnB| 1 replySimilar situation as David, Got the same call to my wife's phone for me yesterday. They wouldn't discuss anything with her and after seeing this here, I called the actual call center number instead of calling the number back they gave her. Naturally I did have to verify my info to the lady at the call center but after all I called them and I did know I was speaking with someone at the bank. After that she did verify that the fraud dept was trying to reach me about a couple of charges that seemed fraudulent and that they had put a temporary block on my card. She patched me through to the fraud dept and found out they were actually were 2 fraudulent test transactions on my card that they blocked. Glad they caught it, just wish I knew how they got my card because I am usually pretty careful with it.
Anyway my point here is, if you are concerned, call your bank whether it be a local branch or the call center instead of the number they provide. Don't give anyone your personal info if they call and ask you for it EVER. If they call you, make them verify info just as if they would if you called them. If you still feel uncertain, don't tell them anything, call your bank instead. In my situation I contacted the NCSECU call center...

- notgiven replies to JohnBNo, never call the number they gave you on the phone or the number on your caller ID. Always use the number on your card or statement.
- pareth| 2 replies919-856-5005 is SECU Fraud Prevention. I just called SECU (their toll free number from their website) back to confirm that this was truly from Fraud Prevention, and I was told it was.
- Caller: SECU
- SECU Member replies to parethI just had this number call me and they left a message for me to return the call. I did, and the gentleman did ask for my credit card number which I refused to give him. He then pulled up my information regarding my address and told me that he had suspicious charges on my credit card and I also verified other legitimate charges that I had made. For those charges we did not make, he said he would put a block on those and put a hold on my credit card which I was fine with. He also said that he would mail me another card and proceeded to give me my address which I verified as correct. I then called the SECU number and they verified that this is their Fire Dept. and if you ever get a call from them it is because they have suspicious activity on your account that they want to verify.
- Anonymous replies to RossThis is absolutely correct. It is NCSECU Fraud Department letting you know about suspicious charges on your card.
- M. ReyesI received a call from (919) . I do not answer unknown numbers so they left a voicemail claiming that they were from NCSECU Fraud Prevention and that i needed to call back 866-961-1371. After being on hold for like 10 minutes hearing a recording that said "We apologize for the wait time..." I spoke to a lady that told they attempted to use my card in a gas station in NYC but they did not know the correct zip code for the card! This number is legit! They did not ask for any personal information besides the case number I was given in that voicemail.
Hope this helps other people!
Some advice: Never give your personal information even if it seems legit!!!! Be safe and if you have any questions call the bank directly!!!- Caller: NCSECU Fraud Prevention
- EbCell phone recd call from 9198565005 Sunday night 9 PM, but I let it go to voice mail. Said it was NC State Employees Credit Union and was looking for N.......L......... to check a fraudulent charge. I am not that person, do not live in NC and do not have a State Employee Credit account. When I goggled the number that called I found blogs for 8669611371. I called the number that called me from a different phone and it did seem to be the State Emp Credit Union. Person seemed uncaring but polite and well spoken. If there was a fraud charge on this person NL's acct they did not seem to care. I would be very careful and if you get such a call, call the number on the back of your credit card, or on a monthly statement.
- Caller: NCSECU
- VinceI received a message with a case ID. I called back to a different number they provided in the phone call and it was the credit union fraud department.

http://www.fraud.org/ - SJgot a voicemail from 919-856-5005 to call 866-961-1371 regarding fraudulent activity on my debit card. I thought it was a scam so I called the # on the back of my card and after verifying info was told there was activity and was transferred to the fraud dept. I actually had a $615 charge on my card from yesterday and another would be charge for $204 they were able to stop from going through by blocking the card. They are now mailing out a new one to me.

- Wendy SchneiderI received a call from this # today because there had been two fraudulent charges to our account. They would not speak to me, as it was my his account #. My fiancé called LGFCU and asked for their fraud department and it was indeed the 866-961-1371 number. A hold had been put on his card and when he verified his information, they said the $ would be back in our account within 48 hours. The people making the fraudulent charges attempted to make more after the card had a hold put on it. This is legitimate because I called in directly through the credit union. Nice catch fraud unit!
- Caller: LGFCU
- Wendy Schneider replies to Shill AlertI came to this site after I was concerned the # was a scam. After calling LGFCU directly, I found out it is their fraud #. I came looking for info and posted my results to help others. I am not a fraud.
- No Problems in NCThis is a legitimate number for the NC State Employee's Credit Union.
My debit card was not longer working so I called my local branch. She gave me this number to call. I had a questionable charge on my debit card and I had to call this number back to get the situation corrected.
Very professional and very helpful!
If you get a call from this number it may mean that your card is being used by someone else and they are calling to see if it is you or a credit card thief.- Caller: NC SECU
- JWSo glad I called the number. Someone had hacked and stolen my debit card & this was the SECU calling me to check in. My card was being used locally (in nearby TN by me) While some scumbags were using it in another state to buy $100 worth of gas so it was flagged. Glad I called them- they canceled my card and will refund the $ stolen by the thieves. Watch your accounts folks!
