Called my cell phone about 7 times in a row.  Very heavy accent. When I asked him to repeat himself, because I could not understand him, he said F..k you and hung up.  The next call consisted of this man yelling "What is your business?". Again, I asked him to clarify what he was asking and he again ended the call with F..k you! He then proceeded to do the exact same thing 6 additional times until I finally dismissed the call. I did not receive any further calls after this. The place called from was Jamaica. The number was 876-284-4180. I never heard anything about a prize, because I could not understand due to heavy accent. I agree with other commentators that this most assuredly was some sort of scam.

This number called my work phone and said I had won $850,000...I hung up, then called the number on my cell phone and gave a fake name and address. I was going to just screw with him, but I got a call on my work phone and had to hang up. He then called back 27 times. I finally got off my work call and answered it and answered it and told him he had the wrong number. He asked for my name and I gave him a different fake name. He asked me to hold while he looked up my information and came back and said I had won $850,000, so I told him my real name was the first fake name I gave him and I guess he realized I was messing with him so he said "[***] you" and hung up. Haven't received another call from him

    Things to believe:

    • "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch."
    • If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
    • You have not won big bucks from a benign benefactor, a pot of pesos from PCH, dinero from a doctor, a car from a caller, or a grant from a gracious government
    • The tooth fairy really does not exist
    • Everything you read on the internet or hear on the phone is not necessarily true.
    • It is illegal to ask for money for a loan or prize, before awarding the loan or prize!
    • "Free Trips" are loaded with mandatory & costly extras, and you usually must give them your card number after listening to a loooong spiel at a hotel.
    • Microsoft or a different famous software company, or one of their agents did NOT cold call you to fix your computer.
    • The moon is not made of green cheese.
    • The IRS will snailmail you, rather than phone you, if there is a problem.
    • Jackalope milk is not an aphrodisiac.
    • If you Vanilla Card, GreenDot, MoneyGram, Western Union, iTunes or use ANY gift/money  card to send money to a scammer, the money is gone.
    • You should beware of Geeks bearing gifts, specially if the gift is a wooden horse with termites, or a statement that your computer is infected.
    • 876 is NOT your lucky number, and it will cost you money to call that area code!
    • The number you see on your Caller ID may not be the number of the person who called you!
    • The Do Not Call List works as intended.  It is NOT a call blocker!
