This happend to me on March 4th using my current bank name. World System said the money would be refunded in 3-5 business days, 7 business days and my 3rd call to them they tell me could be up to 15 business days. Also on my third call, before I gave any information, the person answering already knew the amount I was disputing. Sounds very suspicious to me. I think World System is part of the scam.

Same deal here.  Only my wife's previous name (which she hasn't used in six years) was on the charge.  Called "World System" and got the same generic response, "3-5 days, blah blah blah, don't get a refund from your bank directly, yada yada yada". This all stinks to high heaven.

Probably not DirecTV, as that company shouldn't have our current checking account number.  We do use Verizon Wireless, but Waste Management, Allstate, PayPal, Edward Jones, GAP Visa, Citi Card, and probably a few other nationwide companies have our checking account number in their system.  Any company that just makes deposits (like your employer or the IRS for tax refunds) is suspect too - but since this appears to be a nationwide scam, it's probably not your employer.  We too just discovered that our credit union issued an electronic check to World Systems for $29.95 on March 8.  I called World Systems (probably a mistake or at least a waste of time) and was informed that a refund was forthcoming in 3 - 5 days, and they warned me not to call my credit union because "double refunds" are illegal.  Thay may be, but I called my credit union anyway and they were somewhat amused by this warning.  To make a long story short, my credit union is refunding the money and we are in the process of closing our old checking account and opening a new one.  What a hassle.

Anyone use TaxAct to file taxes?  I got the same debit but went straight to the bank,  Wondering if this site was compromised?

The only two places that this account number and name came together that I can think of are paypal and American Income Life Insurance.

I had this charge on 3/13 as well.  Called the World System number and they were easily convinced I didn't order the adult subscription all too eager to refund the money.  I have both Verizon wireless, Direct TV  and Paypal but all are paid through a different checking account and this checking account didn't have the charge on it.  The checking account that had the World System charge was located in Hawaii in case location is a factor.

Actually that's not true!  I was charged on my business account this same amount - except it was to "Global One" instead of World Systems and on 3/1 instead of on 3/13.  Still my personal checking isn't linked to Verizon, Paypal or Direct TV so that isn't the common thread.  They aren't the same bank and one is in Oregon the other is in Hawaii.  It's a massive security breach somewhere though.

Same thing happened to my sister-in-law in Virginia. IP address World System gave points to a Pembroke, NC college computing service (with the IP registration name spelled "Computng" instead of "Computing". She received her refund right away. Something is definitely funky! She also was recently hospitalized and afterwards received a letter from the hospital that some personal financial records of patients (including her) were stolen.... Hopefully, the authorities that have been notified will investigate this thouroughly!

I just noticed a $29.95 charge from World System on my account and knew something was wrong because it used my maiden name (which I haven't used in 8 years) and my bank's old name. I, too, called the company and was surprised that they didn't put up any sort of fight and just automatically set up the refund and gave me a confirmation number. I also received the same message about 3 to 15 days for the refund and not to call my own bank. However, I think I will go ahead and call my bank about this charge and make them aware of it to prevent further charges.

Those who have received your refunds...have you noticed any other strange charges?

Those who are trying to figure out the common thread...I'm concerned it might be linked to PayPal. That is the only account I currently use that has that particular combination of information attached to it.

i called the 877 num and they said they are going to refund  the money...the 877 number doesn't sound legit to me. i will go ahead and talk to my bank and file a dispute.

I trusted my bank more than the 877 place!

our account got hacked too.did some digging.....got the location on the computer IP address 184.72.230.233 located in Ashburn Va. Host name: 1.amazonaws.com ISP:Amazon.com organization: Amazon.com                husband got hacked while buying on amazon feb 25,2013  with credit card.had to close account yesterday.found out that 50 people at my bank also got hacked for 29.95 .i think this scam is big.

I didn't call the company, but there are only a handful of companies that have this checking number from me: State Farm Insurance (which also provides Life Insurance to me), and United Healthcare. I haven't had checks for this account for over 3 years, but these insurance companies are set up for auto-withdrawal by the bank account number.

I don't have a PayPal account, never have. In other probably related news, I had to cancel the debit card associated with this account two weeks ago due to a charge for $3.99 from stamps.com, a company that I had never used.

I wouldn't even bother calling this World System, they're probably charging you for the phone call as well.

To the above narrowing down:
No on Verizon, HSBC, or DirecTV.

Double refunds are not illegal. World System stealing money from our accounts is. My bank told me that I could also pursue getting a refund from World System after they reimbursed me. I told "Jen" I closed my account and she said they had no way of refunding me the money then. My bank called World System and they told a different story as to what the purchase was for. I believe World System are a fraudulent entity. The operators are quite well rehearsed. My bank has a direct link to the payee account which I assume has to be linked to a real person, so I hope they get these people before they move on to another scam.

We also were hit by this scam on 3/13/13.  Called the number (which I wish now I hadn't done) was told all the same info everybody else was told. The woman that answered my call  told me not to call my bank as we would get a double refund!  Immediately red flags started flying. I called our bank and also made out a police report!

This same thing happened to both my wife and my account.  Question for everyone - Is anyone on the board trying to refinance?  I am thinking me the mortgage company linked this information.  Anyway, this is a mess; I am in the process of opening two new checking accounts.

I got this charge taken out of my account as well. I have been reading and I had this happen a few years ago and I am thinking maybe it is Sallie Mae? It is when I saved my bank account information to them. I do not know if it is common, but do you guys have a Sallie Mae account?
