Got an automated call from this number.

"This is a courtesy call from your doctor's office concerning your bill for your recent procedure..."

There was no identifying information about what office they work for, personal information about the client, nor about what company is making the call.  I smell a scam.

No one in this house has had a procedure of any kind in a very long time.  All expenses are up to date.

Got the same call from this #, twice this a.m. 2-24-14...From a medical procedure, I have had several procedures this past year, so I listened, but it was strange they didn't use my name or say what Dr. just if you have pd this, disregard. How can I dis regard if I don't know which Dr. I knew it was a scam, because I pd all the bills already.

This is a company called Madison Anesthesiology Associates located in Madison, Wisconsin. When I finally reached someone in customer service who asked me my account number, I said I didn't have one. The girl asked if I had received a phone call and I said yes, and I inquired whether they had anesthesiology connections in Harrisburg, PA, to which the girl responded yes, and gave me the name of the company. I had back fusion surgery at the end of April. I received my co-pay part of the bill (after BC/BS paid the majority) about 2-1/2 weeks ago and I have my payment set to be mailed tomorrow, 7/29. She asked me for my date of birth, which I refused to provide, and I asked why on earth she was calling me about a bill I had had for fewer than 3 weeks. She said the company calls to verify addresses. Verify addresses?? WTH? Two and a half freakin' weeks and I get "collection calls"??? I told her the hospital bill had been $56,000 and had been paid by insurance, that the surgeon's bill was over $19,000 and had been paid by insurance, that everybody HAD my correct address, the payment was set to be in the mail tomorrow and to NOT call me again. I then set the phone number up in my iPhone and promptly blocked it. No more calls from these idiots ...

Received a very official looking bill from this company in the mail claiming I owed $1,140.00 for anesthesia service that I had on 5/5/14. I haven't been to the dr in over two years....and my insurance pays all my bills in full when I do go. I thought this was odd and so I did a search of the phone number and found this info.

Received a robo call from this number stating I had an unpaid medical bill and to press 1 to pay by credit card or press 2 to speak to a customer representative.  The bill has already been paid, so I ignored this call.

Wouldn't you think a bill collector would make a call from a live person not a recording saying press 1 to speak to an A/R person.  I will treat this caller as a hoax and block all future calls.   Not to mention I have not used the services of an anesthesiologist in 10 years.

Called about a late Anesthesia bill, that I had already paid. I could either pay now with credit card or call and number back to talk to someone. Instantly did not trust the feel of the call. Double checked my bills and all were paid up. Also did a lookup on the phone number and saw the same responses to these calls.

Keep receiving calls from this number about outstanding medical charges. Pressed the  prompt to speak to a representative, but just sat on hold.  HOAX.

Thanks everyone for their feedback here. I didn't answer the phone and haven't listed to the VM yet. Though it makes me wonder where they get their phone list to scam from because a family member did have a procedure recently...

A message was left on my phone saying I had a balance due. The beginning of the message was cut off (purposely?) so there was no introduction, no company name mentioned and no explanation of what the overdue balance was for, just that I had an overdue balance. I pay all my bills on time and don't have any overdue balances. The number is now blocked and I'm sure it is a scam!

I called them back and stupidly gave them my date of birth. And address. I’m not sure what to do now. Can they do something with this information. I told them to send a bill and I will pay it but I want to know what I’m paying for. Now I’m afraid I did the wrong thing.

This number is for Anesthesia Business Consultants, listed at the bottom of the page.

Its people who call FROM this number that is the concern here, since it could be a scammer who spoofed this number.

So if you called them, you should have been given the answers to your questions then. You should have been able to determine if it was a legitimate call or from a scammer at that point.

Why would you come here asking about it, I mean, didn't they tell you who submitted the bill? Generally its submitted from the Doctor or anesthesiologist at the Office or Hospital you visited, so if you visited one recently and had been put under, then thats what it would be about.

6 days ago (April 5) I got a call from 877-222-4217 and a robot voice told me that I owed money to Anesthesia Associates.  Thinking that I had payed all my bills for the surgery back on Jan 24 I ignored it.  Today I got a call from 800-222-1442, again the robot voice with no details (except for my name).  So, I called the surgeon directly, and he referred me to the anesthesiologist (local number, not a toll-free) who gave me yet a different number and that got me to a human who told me all the details of my bill, the amount owed, and he is mailing me a bill which will include what insurance paid (he didn't even ask for payment over the phone; very courteous and professional).  So, this isn't exactly a scam but I would say call your local anesthesiologist don't call this number back because I wouldn't trust them to have accurate information.

How do you know it isn't a scam? And why did you ignore all the bills you got in the mail relating to this debt?

Take it easy on John, it is not uncommon to get multiple and dupe bills from doctors and hospitals. And with delays in insurance claims being paid, it can take some time to get the right dollar amount to the right provider.  John did the correct thing:  He contacted the providers himself, not taking the word of the robot on the phone.

If the services were rendered in late in January, that seems about right to me.  The insurance company is sure not paying much faster than 60 days, and it really is best to see what insurance covers first.  Many people over or even double pay, and that is not so easy to get back from a medical billing service.
