- JimGot a call on my cell phone and then at my place of work. I was told claim was filed against their clients stating I was passing bad checks. They read off an account number that is not even mine, nor did I ever have an account number like they read off to me. I did not give my account number to them. I told the lady this is a scam and I am letting my Attorney know of this number and I will take actions if I receive anther call on my cell phone or at my place of work. She did ask if I thought this was ID theft, and I said possibly, but I told her again this is a scam and she hung up. DO NOT GIVE ANY INFO TO THESE PEOPLE.

- CWG40 replies to Linda WilmotMost likely a debt collection scam. Do not return the call. Ignore and block.
If you had any judgments, levies or fines against you, you'd be made aware of it from
1. Process servers licensed to serve process in yoru locality.
2. Letters from attorneys representing the other side in civil matters.
3. Written notices from either regulatory bodies, local police or local courts .
There no such thing as having judgments, levies or fines against a social security number. As to a DL, only a judge in a proper legal proceeding or the DMV can limit or lift your DL.
In no event would a debt collector know anything about it, or have anything to do about such matters.
This is a phone call meant to scare some money out of you. Don't fall for it.
Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a clear violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.)
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them. Tell 'em no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.
You have to get tuff with these people because, being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking). the only thing they understand. - jennifer| 4 repliesim so screwed they called me told me that i had a debt with advance america i did in 2007 but its not even on my credit report i have to call my attorney tomorrow now.

- JHI received a call from this number referencing an old debt. The caller stated this debt was placed with their collection agency and unless it was settled, I would be served to appear in court. The options were to pay the balance in full or they would match what amount I could pay. Sounds to good to be true, it is. Don't give out any personal information!!!!! Luckily I caught it before any damage could be done.

- KarenCall claiming to be from my Heath Insurance, needed to speak to me regarding an urgent matter. Luckily, I checked them out before calling back. This is a scam! I have health issues so I was a little concerned that my Health Insurance declined the medication and test that I needed.
- They are scammers| 2 repliesI received a call today from Cambridge Asset Management stating that my husband took out a payday loan in 2009 from Ace?? And that he last paid on it in 2011. This is a total scam. She says she is sending it to her litigation department and that the sheriff will be coming to serve papers. I checked with Ace Cash Express (that is the only Ace payday company I could find online) they have no record of my husband. Which I already knew. These people need stopped!!!

- They are scammers replies to They are scammers| 1 replyI called them back and simply asked for their address. I was told they don't give out that confidential information. If you are a legitimate collection agency then your address should no available to the public. She then told me they were under Sterling and Associates Attorneys at Law. I asked for their address and she said they have locations throughout the country so she couldn't give me an address. I am so pissed!!!!
- DallasgirlYeah, I also just got 3 calls in the past 2 days on my cell from these jokers! Only left one message the first time. Last 2 times, no message. Probably a pay day loan scam. Do not EVER take out a pay day loan. It will haunt you forever. They take your info and sell it and you get calls for YEARS, Don't fall for this.

- Stopthescamsbeen receiving dumb calls like this for several years now. I don't know how many people actually fall for this, I'm guessing they get a few here and there. This is a scam, deal with these idiots all the time in my line of work, unfortunately finding them and prosecuting them proves to be difficult. What surprises me is that these type of scams continue.
