is this a scam?  my roommate got a call and she doesn't have any outstanding debts she's aware of.  They wouldn't say who they were when they called, only who they were calling for.

Got a call from this number looking for a Jason Sxxxxx, same last name as mine.  I called her back, told her that I do not know a jason and to take my name of her list.  There was no name of the company when I called the number the first time, but after hours the machine just says "Global".

I have received several calls from these guys in the form of a recorded message requesting that they are doing a 'follow-up' and that I should call them at 1-877-241-7835.  The message has no company name, no message about what it is, does not state who in my household the message is intended for, and does not leave a contact name for me to call at their end.  I suspect they do this so they can verify you when you call them back via Call Display, and then grill you into submission (at least that may be the plan).  BE VERY CAUTIOUS with these vultures.

They first called and asked for my colleague for my full name. When I called them back they asked me to confirm my first name, last name, and telephone number. They then asked if I was from B.C. Canada. And I said yes and I asked them what were they calling about. They said they had to verify if I was the correct person. They then asked for my address. I told them that I was not comfortable giving any more information until they told my why they were calling. They then asked how long I had lived at my location. I told them I was at my work and I was at a business address. They then started asking for a different first name (but same last name). I got off the phone with them at that point.

ITS A SCAM. They left a message mentioning me by my former last name. Did not identify themselves. They left me a number to call them back at (1-877-241-7835 or 37). I did and got a message saying the following. I did not call it. Report it to info@antifraudcentre.ca if you get these harrassing calls. I am still trying to figure out how they got my unlisted cell phone #.

Here’s how it works: you call a company’s toll-free number and get a recording that says: “The number you have dialled has a new directory assistance service. Please dial 10145787 to be connected to a new national directory assistance service.” When you dial that number, you get a recording saying the number can’t be found. Sounds simple enough, right? Very simple. Until you get your phone bill. There it is: Fastrack Global Directory Assistance – $4.51. That’s what I was charged; others have reported being charged $3.99 or as much as over $7.00.

    Huh?

Here’s what actually happened. You dialled the wrong toll-free number or a disconnected toll-free number. Fastrack buys up spare and disconnected toll-free numbers and puts their recording on the number. That’s the recording that tells you to call 10145787. You can hear the recording yourself by calling 800-501-8430. (Don’t worry, you won’t be charged by calling this number, you’ll only be charged if you call the 10145787 number.) This happened to me when I thought I was calling Primus, whose number is 888-501-8430. I accidentally dialled 800 instead of 888.

Fastrack Global is set up as an alternative phone service provider and they are allowed to bill you through your local phone company (Bell or other) by pretending that you called them to use their service. Of course, you didn’t, they tricked you into calling their number.

It’s illegal because they never disclose the cost of the call or the nature of the service, but Fastrack figures that no one is going to pursue the matter for four bucks.

They’re probably right. Besides, if you tried to pursue them you’d find out that Fastrack Global doesn’t exist. “Fastrack Global” is just a shell company name for Triton Global Communications, which is run by a guy named Guy Fietz in Calgary, Alberta. You can reach Guy by calling 403-257-7090, press number sign for the directory, dial 343 and then number sign again. Tell him what you think of his directory assistance service.

And if you happen to be in the neighbourhood of 4550 112 Ave SE in Calgary, drop by Unit 8 at that address and visit him personally. Or just key his car if someone else hasn’t already. Tell him Zadfrack sent you.

Well, after receiving quite a few calls at my home over this matter I decided I would look online to see if I could find out what this is all about. I had no idea what it was, I kind of thought it was a scam. I've been getting these calls at my house for the past oh.. 2 weeks maybe? A few days in between. And just about 10 minutes ago I got another one and they're looking for my older sister who doesn't live with us, she has her own place and has had so for a number of years. So I Google'd the number and I got this webboard. I finally called them and they're Global International as you guys know, and when I asked why they were calling my house the woman I spoke with, who didn't give her name which is strange because I've worked in a call center and we always state our names and then the company. When I asked why they were calling she placed me on hold and then came back asking for my phone number. I didn't give it at first. I asked where they were calling from, they couldn't tell me, I asked what they're company does, she couldn't tell me that either. She said she wasn't allowed to. So I told I could easily Google the company and find out what they do. I did before the call and the site is SO unprofessional. She wouldn't give me any information at all. So I gave her my number, they asked for my sisters name I told her she wasn't here. They gave me another number so she could call her, I didn't take it down because I don't believe this whole thing. So I'm calling back right now actually to see if I get another person, and if I don't then I'm asking for a supervisor. So let's see... same person, named Jenny, got her to transfer me to her supervisor Warren. I asked what the nature of the company was, debt collector. I don't believe my sister is in debt with anyone. He then asked for her number, I said I'd have to speak with her first before I did so.

We had called her about 2 nights ago and she has no idea what it's about so, what does that tell you? Ignore these guys people.

My sons is being harrassed by this company as well "Global International" - I called them and actually spoke to a gentleman that would not give his name or the company name. We exchanged very unpleasant words (Mostly from my end) and I threatened to report them. After more unpleasant words, he hung up on me. I called back a second time to get the company name from another person.
I would suggest anyone being hounded by these people - report them immediatly - This is a huge scam
It did feel good bitching them out though :>)

Re:  1-877-241-7835  (number they want you to call back) [ GLOBAL ? ]

Caller ID showed 1-905-480-1377, which in theory, area code 905 is Toronto area - but you never know location by area code is not necessarily true anymore anyway ... because of VOIP, or SKYPE numbers ... and also because caller ID can be faked anyway these days - with the right equipment and knowledge.

Ya ... So whoever they are - they are calling our land line number, many times, and leaving many messages - some of them sort of threatening. Looking for some person that we have never ever heard of.

Finally one day I answer, and I gave out very little information on our side - but asked the caller (agent) lots of questions - and the agent calling us was very reluctant to answer ... but I got some info out.

    I emphasize:
"YOU are the one calling us / calling our number ... SO IDENTIFY YOURSELF."

    It went something like this:
Who are you looking for exactly?  Could you spell that name for me?
(so at least now I have the correct (?) spelling of the name they're looking for)

And what is the FULL name of the company you work for?
(did not want to answer ... just said "GLOBAL" ... that is enough)

Your first name please and agent number please?
(which the agent did give to me.)

And where are you calling from?  Which call center or location?
    (did not answer, refused)

And regarding the issue you are calling about for so and so ... how long ago does this issue go back?
    (answer:  1997 (!)  that is thirteen (13) years !)

So now I advise the agent:
"Look ... that's quite a long time ago ... and you're still calling ?  We've never heard of that person here.  In fact we ourselves have not been here that long.

Now, if you look up our number, the number you're constantly calling, in the phone book, or on-line on the internet listings (411.ca) ... you'll see that it belongs to so and so... and we pay the bill ... and this number and line and service belongs to us ...

So ... please stop calling ... that person was never here .. and you're really becoming a nuisance now.

Plus ... our number is on the official Canadian "Do not call list" ... so just stop calling, and take this number off your list."

[Agent now hangs up on me.]

If it continues ... at least I have some info to add to my official complaint - with the gov't regulatory agencies.

But it's a big waste of everyone's time - this collection agency crap.

Global ... just go away.  Stop calling.

    That person was never here.

13 YEARS later ... still calling for non-existant person - YEESH.

GO AWAY GLOBAL - whoever you are.

Rec'd call that looked strange .. showed 905 only .. didn't answer.  Message was left.  They've dialed the wrong number.  Message that they need to get a hold of this person to recdify an urgent matter.  So I listen to the message and she's spitting the numbers out so fast I had to listen to it several times to get the full number.  In searching I'm deleting the message - never rec'd.

I just got an automated call from this number. I called them back and she asked for my phone number, I refused to give it to her until she told me what company I just called (she answered with "Michelle speaking", no company name). She wouldn't tell me what company I called until I give her my number. Of course I didn't give her the number and she said "then have yourself a nice day" and hung up on me!

I'm amazed that these scammers think they can con people like that! Crooks CAN be so dumb!

Received automated message from this number. I returned the call because they had called several times already leaving threatening messages. I spoke to a rep named Warren who would not disclose his name or the company he represented. He was very insistent on gaining personal info from me, which I would not divulge until he gave me info. After a heated exchange of words I simply hung up. As soon as I hung up I got another call from the number 877-804-7358 which left a message that I have not returned their phone calls and that the call was a "time sensitive" issue. Both numbers are from the same source, it is an absolute SCAM! Do not give out any information to these people. Contact your phone service provider and have these numbers blocked.

I got many calls from these guys looking for someone called Candace and want me to call 1877-558-4274 or dial 9 to talk to someone. I dialed 9 I spoke with someone ,not too pleasant conversation, I hung up after he tried to ask my phone number and other information.  Hang up the phone right away and report them to your phone provider company, they should take action to stop them knowing very well that these are fraudulent calls.

I got 4 phone calls in 10 minutes from a number that appeared on my cell phone as 1-877-837-7467. I did not answer any of those calls because i was at a dinner party, and later when I checked my phone I discovered that I had missed 4 calls. The next day I called the number back to see what it was all about, and got a recorded woman's voice saying "this number has a new directory assistance service, please call 10145787 to be connected to a national directory service, again the number is..."
I did not dial that 10145787 number. If I get any more calls from that original 1-877 number I will be phoning the police anti-fraud hotline.
