Called today. I usually just hang up on these automated calls from "Credit Card Services" offering to reduce my interest rate, but I've been getting a lot of them and wanted to tell them to remove me from their list. The person I talked to wanted to know if I had $3500 in credit card debt and then started asking about my card with the highest interest rate. Mastercard or visa and the expiration then he asked the # and I told him I wanted more info on the company before I would give him that. He tried to tell me my card couldn't be charged with out the security code on the back and the card # was just for verification. Good one. He gave me the 877-283-8065 and x224 Charles to call back when I want lower interest rates. Called back just to get the Company name, so I could look it up. Good thing I did. Took a little looking to find the info they got a new # it used to be 877-212-3634. If you use that # to look up info you'll find plenty of people who got ripped off. Their card was charged anywhere from $600 to $800. Same company and routine just a different phone#. Hope I posted this fast enough to save others from this scam.

Got a call on caller id says "private call" but the woman from the company gave my husband the phone # 877-283-8065/this woman claimed to be able to lower the interest rate on our credit card said she was from Visa/Mastercard. The woman asked my husband for his credit card # so she could lower the rate. My husband gave it to her I had a fit right after the phone call we called our bank to check if this is a scam and Yes it is a scam -My husband gave her our credit card # she asked for his social security # but I told him no do not give it to her. He told her he was calling the bank to check if she was legitimate since she kept telling him she was. NO CREDIT CARD COMPANY will ever call you to lower the interest rates they want to make money! Anyway I called the # back to find out the company name. It is Financial Consulting Services and they are running a scam!! I called the Better Business Bureau to check if any Complaints on them. The Better Business Bureau looked up their phone # in there data base did not come up with a company name. Anyway right after the phone call my husband called our bank and cancelled our credit card. My husband never gives out any personal information so what ever line this lady was handing out must have been a good one. I was so angry at him!! Do not fall for this scam no company will ever call you to lower your rate!!!

Thanks Jen, I just got the same call today x265 Erik. He inquired about 2 credit cards and offered to lower the interest rate on both of them. He asked me to verify the card numbers, like I was born yesterday. He also wanted the expiration dates. Scary thing is he recited the first 6 digits of one of the cards! He just didn't know if it was a VISA or MC...I called both card companies to report this and of course they didn't know anything about it. At least they now have an alert on my account for suspicious activity. Beware!

After requesting numerous times to be removed from the list via automated prompts I actually pressed 1 to get to a live agent.  The caller had a foreign accent, and the call quality was very poor - ie: crackling, breaking up.  The woman said they were Visa & Mastercard Services and could lower my interest rates.  I asked to speak to the supervisor and she said she was the supervisor (ROTF)! I told her to put me on the Do Not Call List, but before I could say the word "List" she hung up on me.  The next time they called I pressed 1 and then told the agent that I was busy but I wanted to call back.  She gave me 877-283-8065.  I called that number back and talked to another woman "Pamela". She stated they could lower any card from any bank like B of A, Chase... I asked her the name of the company and she said it was Financial consulting Services. I asked her what was their location.  She said "we are not in Florida" (I live in FL). I asked again, she gave the same response.  On the third time, she just hung up on me. When they call these are the numbers that come up on the caller id: 202-459-7122 (unknown name), 202-747-7306 (Tele Europe 2).

I got a call from Mike x221 last night offering to lower my rate on my credit card but needed my number starting with 4 and expiration date and wanted to know if Visa or MC.  When I questioned him he explained in very broken English he was calling for Visa/Master Card Servies with B of A, Chase, State Farm Bank... He gave me a phone number to call for confirmation.  His call came in as PRIVATE and no number but when I called the 877-283-8065, the recorded message to hold for a repr. identified the company as Financial Consulting Services.  I never could get anyone to talk to, just Musac and "stay on the line" message for 3 or 4 minutes each time.  I called my card company and cancelled my card.

I had an experience with this outfit similar to those already reported, and made the mistake of "verifying" the Visa account for which they already had some of the numbers. Then I called the Bank of America fraud dept. and reported the scam. I've changed our account number so they can't use it. But this outfit should be prosecuted for fraud, if the authorities can find it. It is located somewhere in Florida, though it may employ people from other places to make the initial phonecalls. (Someone reported above had an area code 202, for example.

Same thing happened to me.  I made the mistake of providing card expiration date.  He said they were Orlando Florida, they couldn't use the card, etc.  Sounds like a scam, and you cannot get on the do not call list

I feel like an idiot but they seemed to know so much. I checked with my credit card company and they are a scam. Cancelled my card after the call-fortunately they had not done anything. First call was from 202 area code and second confirmation was from 954-889-7371-Ft Lauderdale or Broward County. I am surte glad this site exists-especially for idiots like me!

Just received a phone call from 202-459-7122 "Financial Consulting Services" (by a gentleman with a heavy Indian accent) stating that they are offering people who have more than $3500 of credit card debt an opportunity to lower your interest rate. I never get taken on these things, why I did this time is beyond my own comprehension. The first clue should have been he had the wrong zip code, and the second clue should have been when he was insistent on getting a credit card number to verify that he was speaking to the right person. Yes, STUPID, STUPID, STUPID. I am beating myself up over this. In my defense I was at least smart enough to give him a closed credit card account number. I insisted on calling him back that I did not want to give him any further information. The call back number was 877-283-8065 Ext. 252 and ask for Derrick Fedler. Hang up if they call you give them no information. I immediately called my credit card company. They assured me that they cannot charge anything on that card because it is closed but they will have the fraud department give me a call. Now I sit and wait and hope for the best. One more thing, all Visa cards start with a "4" so if they say, oh yes, that is your Visa account, dah. That is their way of lulling you into a false sense of security. And .... all MasterCards start with the number "5". So don't fall for this con. Save yourself the anguish.

First phone call came from 402-982-0721. Said he wanted to lower my interest rate.Of course he already knew my full name and zip code. Like an idiot I gave hime my card expiration date. Then he asked for the card number beginning with the number 4. I told him to go to hell and hung up. A minute later his "supervisor" Omar called back and provided me with his call back number 1-877-283-8065 x222 and tried to convince me to provide him with my credit card number. Yeah right.

Received a call from "Elena" at 1-877-283-8065 x253.  "Elena" asked whether I had Citibank and Mastercard credit cards, whether my credit debt exceeded $3,500, and offered to reduce my interest rates. I asked which credit card company she was with and did not receive a straight answer.  I did not give out our account numbers.  I called my credit card companies to make note of this for my accounts.  The credit card companies indicated that this is a scam.

I just received a call from 202-459-7122  from "Card Services" representing all the major cards - Visa, MC, BofA etc. . . . a woman of asian or middle eastern decent indicated they could offer to lower my interest rates because I have continued to pay on time and more than the required balance - could lower it to 6%.  She inquired if my total balance on all of my cards was more than $3500. and if I was interested in lowering the rate.  She wanted to know my security code number from the back of my Visa or MC . . . she already had and recited my address, zip and phone;  I was suspicious and asked for a name and call back number.  She gave me the following information: Rose Pierre, Ext. 242 at 1-877-283-8065.  I gave her NO account information - but was still suspicious as she became irritated with me for inquiring information of her.  As she continued to speak - I plugged in the call back number to the internet and found this website.  And then ended the call. I was glad to find this site posted!!  This is a scam - DO NOT give them any information!!

Same as below.  We can lower your rates, etc. Says it is Financial Consulting Services. Blah Blah.  THIS IS A FRAUD!  Your cards will be stolen or worse.  Do Not Call List?  Forget it! Might as well ask your mugger if his gun is registered.  Fraudulent Caller ID (202) 459-7122? This number is a fake.  Your best revenge is to string them along, take as much time as you can... feign ignorance, ask to speak to the supervisor.  Get them to give you their "names."  Record the call and if it's a good one, put it up on YouTube.

I just got the call today, Nov. 9, 2009 from 877-283-8065. It shows up as (206) 397-1902 on the caller ID. First it's the recorded voice, then you press one and you get connected to a live person. The guy claimed to be "Austin Bella" extension 267! I was amazed at how much information he had on me! They make you think that you are verifying your security informtation but they are not. For example they will ask for the last four digits of your social security number but they don't even have the first 5! They will just say "Correct!" If you are gusty, give them the wrong information to prove they are a SCAM. Luckily I was onto them and thanks to those who have posted their stories. If you feel like your credit cards were compromised, just call your credit card company and they can change your account number and stop any non-legit incoming charges. You may want to sign up for Life Lock to protect your identity if you think they got your social security number.

Received phone call from 1-877-283-8065 from a man with a foreign accent who wanted my sister-in-law's Visa and Mastercard numbers so he can "reduce her interest rates."  She did not give him any information.  I took the phone and told him we had to discuss this with our bookkeeper!  I asked him to give us the account numbers he had and he said something that I didn't understand, so I said I'm sorry I can't understand you, thank you and hung up.  Then I went to the computer and checked out the number he gave me.
After reading all these comments, I was so glad my sister-in-law did not give him any information. She is 94 years old and is very alert!

Just hung up from a long telephone conversation after pressing "1" following a recorded message indicating that this was my "last chance" to respond to an offer to lower my credit card interest rate; the recording mentioned something about a letter I had received.  Suspecting nothing suspicious, I pressed "1", and was greeted by a gentleman who told me that I qualified to have my interest rate lowered to 6.95% because I had paid my account on time for the past six months.  He told me that all I needed to qualify was to verify that I had more than $3,500 balance and my current interest rate was higher than 10%.  When I said responded affirmatively, he asked me for the expiration date of my Visa or M/C account.  I don't keep any credit cards in my wallet, so I told him that I would have to find my credit card first, and asked him to hold.  He said, "go ahead maam", and I placed the phone down on my desk.  We have several credit cards, and I simply picked two cards (for no particular reason).  When I returned to the phone with credit card in hand, I found out that the line had been disconnected.  Not knowing the identity or number of the caller(we don't have caller ID), I hung up the phone.  Within 10 seconds, the phone rang again, and it was the same voice, apologizing that we been disconnected.  At this point, I still was not suspicious (although I should have been). He asked for the expiration date, and I told him that it was either 10/12 or 11/12.  At that point, HE TOLD ME that the expiration date of one of my cards begins with 09/09 (he was right), and I told him that the expiration date reads, "09/09 - 10/12".  I'm now thinking that he has my credit card information on a computer in front of him; I'm still not suspicious.  He asked me whether it was a VISA or M/C account.  I said, VISA.  He then asked which bank issued the credit card, to which I responded “Capitol One” (still not suspicious).  He then asked me to give him the last four numbers of the credit card, which I gave him.  He then said, your card begins with a 4, is that right?  "Yes."  (Even though I knew that all VISA accounts begin with “4”, I still wasn’t suspicious.)  What is the next number?  "8", I responded.  Then he said, “it begins with 4-8-6, right?”  At that point I said, "No, 4-8-0-2".  He then asked me to read the entire number on the card, so that he could pull up my balance and current interest rate.  At this point I started to become a little suspicious.  I told him that I was not in the habit of giving my credit card number to someone who calls me.  He told me that he would not be asking me for the 3-digit security code on the back of my credit card, nor my social security number, and that my account was protected by the consumer credit card protection act.  While we continued to talk about my reluctance to give him my full credit card number, I looked up the account balance of the credit card (we were discussing) online, and found that it was less than $3,500, which I told him.  He said, it doesn’t matter, as long as the total balance of all three of our Capital One accounts totaled $3,500, we would still qualify, and he that would be able to lower the interest rate on all three accounts.  I’m wondering to myself, how does he know that we have more than one credit card with Capital One (we have two).  I looked up the total balance of both Capital One accounts and found that the balance was <$2,000, I told him.  He said, “that’s OK, I can put in a code to qualify you for the lower interest rate; all I need is for you to confirm with me the credit card number.  It begins with 4-8-0-2.  Go ahead and read the rest of the number to me, maam.”  At this point, I am becoming more suspicious, so I ask him the name of the company.  “Visa and MasterCard Services”.  I also asked him for the phone number, and he said, I’m going to give you my number, my extension and name, and you can check to see that we are legitimate.  My number is 1-877-283-8065, my extension is 236, and my name is Albert.”  He had me confirm the information he had just given me, and then said, “OK, now go ahead and give me your number”, to which I responded, “You want me to give you my credit card number, but how do I know you are legitimate?”  “Don’t you want to lower your interest rate?”  “Of course I do”.  “I just need to the number so that I can pull up your current balance and interest rate.  Then I will put in the code to have your interest rate lowered, and give you a confirmation number.  After we hang up, you will receive another call from Capital One telling you your new interest rate.”  I asked him why he couldn’t just see the full number on his computer, and he told me that all he sees are a “bunch of asterisks, for my protection.  Once I type in your number, it will give me access to all your account information.  OK, go ahead and give me your number.”  At this point, I decided to “Google” 877-283-8065, and found this website.  I told him that I looked up the number on the internet, and that it says his company is a fraud.  I told him that I was passing on the offer, and hung up.

I had exactly the same experience as Jen.  The exact same dialogue.  I said I would call them back after I verified who and what they are.  They were very aggressive about getting my expiration date.  I would not give it to them.  They would not give me any other information about which card they were referring to.  I googled the phone number and found all of your comments.  Thank you so much for taking the time to alert others to the obvious scam. They have called back 3 more times.  My son took the phone and asked for a supervisor and could not get one. He told them we would be reporting them as a fraudulent company and they hung up.
