I'm wondering was the lady's name rita lavine? I got a call today she knew a lot of my info and said I was going to be prosecuted and served 1/6/2016 if I didn't pay an old payday loan from 2013..... number she called is: 1-877-287-5157 she said her extension is 220.... I'm terrified because back in the day I did have a few payday loans and cant remember if I took care of this one or not....she said I have until tomorrow to pay a settlement amount of $538 w/ a cc or I can make 3 monthly pymnts of $323.25 is this a scam?

You might take note of key terms in that title, and read a few dozen stories. They all start to blur because they sound about the same. "I heard these threats. They had all my information. They want to me to pay or I'll be served and/or arrested." The tactics form a pattern, one not difficult to recognize. There is a right way and a wrong way to collect a debt from Americans. Inducing terror is not part of the right way.

Defaults on consumer credit, including payday loans, do not constitute "fraud" in America. Consumer debt is *not* a criminal matter and collector claims are not typically sent straight to a judge.

Lawful debt collection is a process, not an ambush. You are due a chance at each stage to raise a dispute. You have a right to debt validation on real paper. You have a right to honest answers and polite treatment. You have a right to limit or bar all phone calls. You also have a right to sue debt collectors who deny those other rights.

I got the same  exact call!!!

i got the same call they had all my information about an old debt. they said they where going to charge me with a felony. so i called my lawyer and found out it was just a common scam. ignore these people or report them to the police!

She said I owe a student loan with a 14 something ext: number, than she called again with a different number with the same thing student loan....I believe it's a scam,

I just got called from the local county that I live in Processe Server.  A bench warrant will be filed on me if I do not call.  I have to call before 2 pm today.  I'm terrified.  I don't know if this is real.  I sure don't want to be served with papers here at work.  I don't know whether I should call or not.  I check our local court documents and there was nothing there.  I didn't get anything in the mail about this.  Don't they usually send something in the mail.  His phone number didn't come up on my phone.  I'm scared.

I received a call from a Rita Levene who said she was looking for someone I know. "Rita" also said to call back to 877.287.5157 x220 although she was calling from 614.457.0457 (which comes up as a Columbus Ameritech phone number). "Rita" said that all this was due to a law suite and that papers were going to be "served" but that my friend had to call back asap. Also said she was connected to a law firm in NY by the name of Weiss. I think it's someone who's got a list of old debts and is trying to scam/scare people.

Kathy, this has happened to me several times. When you ignore their calls, they eventually leave you alone. They CANNOT file a warrant or even serve one on you. I had one go as far as telling me he was following the sheriff to my home as we spoke and wanted to know if I had firearms or dogs. I called the sheriff's department and they assured me they were not coming to my home, nor do they operate that way. I have found the key with these people is to not let them know you are afraid and to tell them each and every time they call you that you are going to file for a restraining order and press harassment charges against fhem. They will eventually go away.

I got a call from877-287-5157, I wasn't home. But the message was from a Rita Levine. Who is this person? Reading all the post from everyone. Is this a scam artist?

Do you actually have a payday loan that is delinquent? If yes, maybe not a scam, if not, yes a scam. Most of the time smaller loans don't go to court because they're not worth the cost of the lien holder to take it that far. The credit might suffer but you can dispute that over and over until they take it off.

What BS, even if you were served all that would happen if you no showed is a default judgment. Debtors prison was abolished.

The same message left at place of business. Coworker picked up. Voice said it is mandatory I must be available for summons.  This is pure Harrassment at the Core.  I owe nothing.

877-287-5157 have been calling me since 1-1-2016. They won't tell me who they are with they just keep saying they're from E-filing from my local jurisdiction. Then they said I have a court date but no actual time or date or what court. There are 15 suburban towns here, you live in one and work in another out heare. I google this number and read ever single negative post and complaint about this number. At one time they were taking breast cancer donations, then calling people telling them they have a virus on their phone or computer. Next, they are trying to scam people out of their money by asking them to pay a balance from a decade ago.
