They called my husband and pressured him into paying for a debt stemming from identity theft from over a decade ago. We'd already taken care of it with credit agencies and the bank to get it off his record. The guy threatened to put a lien on our vehicles and assets. I quickly found out it wasn't listed on his credit report despite what the guy insisted, so I stopped the payment and filed a fraud investigation with the bank regarding these scammers. I also filed a complaint with the FTC, TX consumer protection agency, and a police report. Screw these scumbags.

Got a call from Ellington and associates” claiming I needed to pay an old debt from 14 years ago on a capital one card I don’t recall having. They will verify nothing at all or send me a validation letter.  They claim they sent one in January and I failed to respond.  They say I can only call Capital One or Experian, but the collections company that owns the account “Safer Acquisitions” will not engage with me nor can I find anything legitimizing their existence on the internet.  Getting someone on the phone with Experian or Capital One is impossible.  They refuse to send me “another” notice or validation letter.  Only a settlement offer. I would totally remember receiving a notice that I owed capital one $4k.

There is no company named Safer Acquisitions listed in any state.

Same Old Gig and Criminal Scam everyone here is talking about.
They called me wanting to find my Brother because he had an apparent Civil Complaint filed against him in Salt Lake County . She told me to get ahold of him and gave me a phone number, Case Number, blah, blah, blah.... She called from a local Utah number which is
801-203-4660.
She said she was representing the law firm Ellington & Associates.
The Scammer said her name was
Sophie Washburn.
This same outfit called me several years ago and gave me the same old line and I told them to stick it, That I would not entertain their  Criminal Activity. Then I called the Utah State Attorney General, and they confirmed that they have had multiple complaints at the same time I was calling them, which just so happened to be at the 1st of April, right in time for Tax Season.
Just blow these guys off and Block the number.
They are nothing but Scam Artists and Criminals.

Anything ever come of it??? I received some calls from them saying the same thing.

Maybe you should have read past the first post?  Or you could hope and pray that person stops back and can answer you.  Which do you think is the better solution?

Just got same call. They called me by a last name that i havent been in 22 yrs. SCAM!

Stated I received papers last month I haven’t received anything. Definitely something not right about the harassment.

I just got the same call the lady mispronounced my name and the message was a minute and 19 seconds long, so ghetto, redundant and unprofessional. It was like she tried to sound serious and scary but her background sound nothing like an office setting. They said I have a civil case filed against me. I monitor my credit often, almost daily, so that’s a lie .. low rent raggedy scammers. They called from a local number in Annapolis Maryland 410-919-9598 supposedly on behalf of this law firm in Texas. I never received a civil suit in the mail so I guess they can move on to the next one because I will not be calling them back.

SCAM ALERT!!! I was contacted while at work by a person who identified himself as Hunter Evans, an alleged attorney for Ellington and Associates located in Atlanta GA. Mr. Evans stated that they had been trying to contact me for over 3 weeks (on phone and in person) regarding a debt that I owe and a civil lawsuit that was pending against me. He stated that the case would default against me automatically if I didn't respond immediately. First of all, I have an excellent credit score and never defaulted on any payments. Also, there would not be any other reason for a civil lawsuit to be filed against me. This was the first and only communication I had with anyone involving this matter. Mr Evans then proceeded to call my mother and sister later that evening and threaten them the same way using this false information about me. In every occasion the number used to call from was (404) 267-9263. We have all since blocked this number on our phones and will ignore any future communication.

Called my mom and my daughter!! Saying I hadn't answered "civil" papers! Total scam!!!!!

I received a call today about some civil suit filed against me. Claimed they sent me paperwork two weeks ago. They had my address but couldn't give me any further information. They gave me a number to call 18665861511. I called the number and haven't gotten any answers.

Just got called with the same info as what has been on the thread. Called me for my father’s account. Other than reporting, is there any other action we need to take?

They also have 866-586-1516 Ellison and Associates. They are after VERY old debt that CANNOT be collected.
