- Badge714Trying to collect debts of a deceased person is the fastest growing section of debt collection. Pennies on the dollar & then the calls start. To try and shame relatives into paying debts that cannot be legally collected once an Estate has been settled. Get their name, address & send them a nice 'bugger off' letter. Quick comment: Be VERY careful settling the Estate of person who died with debts. An Executor can be held liable for errors.
- GateKeeper"Keith" called my business today looking for my Boss "Joe". When he called he simply asked for "Joe" as if they were good buddies. I asked who was calling and he replied "This is Keith- from BCM Services. Is Joe there?"
I asked what BCM stood for and what the call was in regards to. He relied "BCM is just the name of my company and I am calling to introduce myself and my company to Joe"
I put him on hold, looked them up here on good ol' 1-800 notes...let him sit and stew while I read a few posts and then plopped "Keith" directly into "Joe's" voice mail- Caller: BCM? or DCM?
- Ken replies to HopegirlCall blocking usually helps. I told them that my mother had no executor, administrator, or anyone appointed by any court to handle her final affairs, but she left with enormous medical debts. they usually will stop at this point.

- GateKeeper"Matthew Morgan" calls and asks for my boss by first name as if they are friends or old acquaintances, I asl for a lst name and am given it, but still no identification of caller by himself. so I ask who is calling and get a name, which makes me then ask for a cpmpany name, which is also given but means nothing to me (BCM Services) and then I have to ask for the reason for the call.
caller is always very fast talking and bully-ish- as if I should know who he is, or that if he seems "forceful" I will just pass the call over to my Boss (which I WONT)
The reason for the call was simply "to introduce himself, if he is available"
Which he wasn't and never will be...so you can "introduce yourself" to his voicemail.

800-651-7836 - Upset and Grieving| 1 replyReceived a call this morning from someone that asked who is handling my late sons finances. My son was 33 years old and paid his own bills. I did not cosign for anything and I don't plan on paying for any of his past bills. When my son died so did his bills.

We received a call yesterday from this number, asking if we are or know the person in charge of our neighbor's estate (on our answering machine). We don't fall for criminal activities like this. I hope these people are caught and put in jail, where they belong!

- dtvmy husband passed away, and I am not responsible for any of his debts, since I was only a co signer, I have faxed or mailed the copies of the death certificates only to be told that they have not received them,. this has only been a few months, and I am grieving deeply for my loss which has affected my health. I do not need needless threats on his death, at this point and time.
- EdI didn't answer, caller left no message, caller ID "Toll Free Caller". From previous posts, this looks like a debt collector looking to collect debts for a deceased relative. I've had two such calls today from different numbers. My wife's name is Mary, so I did a quick Google search for obituaries for Mary <my last name> and found two hits in the last two weeks. My guess is that whoever is calling thinks at least one of those refers to my wife, who is very much alive.
- EdCalled again yesterday, left message requesting assistance from someone handling the final affairs of the late Mary <my last name>. Left a call back number of 800-651-7836. I decided to return the call to request that they quit calling me and to advise them that the only person I know of as Mary <my last name> is my wife, and that, at the time I called them back, she was very much alive, making cookies in the kitchen.
When I advised the caller of this, she insisted on talking to my wife to "verify" some things. I would not allow her to talk to my wife, since she bears no relationship to the party they were presumably calling about. She insisted that she talk to my wife a couple times, at which point I "respectfully requested that she discontinue calling my number". At that point, she agreed, said "thank you", and hung up.
My guess is this is just another clever pretext for gathering personal information from unsuspecting people. Too bad I was suspicious from the start!- Caller: BCM Services
- UtpeSame situation as most everybody else: Received a call from DCM Services looking to collect debt(s) on a recently deceased relative.
Seeing as how I do not answer the phone with an unrecognized number, I decided to let it go to voicemail. As of now, they have not attempted to call me back (yet) regarding my relative's recent passing.
Since there are no executors, administrators, or assets of/belonging to my relative's estate, they cannot, under any circumstances, make you pay for the deceased's debts by law. They'll just simply have to write it off as a death and move on.
I agree, these people are lowlife, bottom-feeding, scums of the earth. It has only been a little over a month since my relative passed away and, already, these debt collection agencies are coming out of the woodwork to collect as much as they can from immediate family.- Caller: DCM Services

- EdWell, they called again! After I called them back and requested that they discontinue calling me (see above), they called and left a message to call them back about the "final affairs" of someone with my wife's name.
I'm glad I have a device on my phone that automatically routes callers not on my "white list" to my answering machine. I didn't hear the phone ring when they called, but I heard the message they left.
These guys are scammers!- Caller: Toll Free Caller
- Winona| 1 replyleft a message - stated her name was Amanda and asked for the person handling the estate of my late mother. I know she still has some outstanding debt, but not much of an estate as she was in a nursing home and on public aid for three years. Good luck collecting, because I am not calling them back!

- B-Edwards replies to WinonaPlease read the posts above and then get advice on what debts of your Mom you are and are not responsible for. It is important to be do the right thing in life, but that does not mean you personally are legally or morally obligated to pay certain bills. There are laws and regulations in force that protect you. All the best to you!
- Dave replies to Harassed MournerYou go girl
- MaryLet your first words be few, "Do not call."
True debt collectors / collection agencies ALWAYS send a letter listing the specifics of the debt they are trying to collect. It is NEVER initiated by phone. True collectors send you a letter that includes the date, the company name, the amount, and other detail as provided by a true debt - they then give you 30 days to dispute the debt IN WRITING.
This company didn't do that.
I am pretty sure they get information from online obituaries / funeral home sites. This company is one of 3 who've contacted called since my mother died. The man tried to "bully" me by saying "I am calling on a recorded line" and then asked for a name responsible for the estate - I told him mail it to her address. He told me "I can't send confidential financial information". I said "Yes you can” he then argued and said “I can’t send confidential financial information” and I said, “Yes you can, and do not call me again."
The man spoke nonsense.
How does confidential financial information get to people? In the mail. Do we have to go to the bank to get our bank statements, or to the power company to pick up our bills? Do you have to go to Chase to pick up your VISA bill? No. He spoke nonsense. And he tried to make himself sound authoritative by carrying a "mean" attitude like a playground bully.
I have received mail addressed to her estate. And I know from my own hard times what legitimate collection agencies do. The other 2 hearse chasers sent mail without identifying a debt as I described above but -wanted us- to volunteer information.
Although I am not certain, I suspect that all 3 of these companies spook you into disclosing information and search the deceased's credit report then place themselves in the middle between you and legit creditors to get a piece of what does not belong to them. It's a hunch...but I think it's accurate.
