Received call immediately after I clicked on an internet ad about refinancing home mortgage. He claimed to transfer call to Quicken Loans. I told them I would have to call them back but he said he would call me back. I researched the number after reading other posts decided I won't continue.

Message from Michael Williams indicating it was a collection effort and that summons would be issued as well as a bench warrant.  Even though we have no such debt, and he failed to identify who the collection effort was from, it causes one pause.

Micheal Williams called today, third time in a week, we turned it over to the local authorities, and they confirmed that there are no outstanding warrants and no legal actions are in process. This is a scam according to the authorities and they are proceeding to investigate and intend to shut this down.

Got the call, pressed one, guy came on asking wanting my phone number. I refused, told him if he didnt know who he was calling I wasnt going to give him any info. He then told me they were looking for a person who must have owned this phone number years ago. Have had lots of calls looking for that person, mainly collectors.

Michael Williams also called my aunt saying the same thing said they were looking for me and gave out the same information bench warrant blah blah blah etc. thing is I work in debt collections and I can tell you they are not legitimate debt collectors and they are in violation of the fair debt collection practices law and the privacy laws a debt collector has to provide an address and phone number to anyone debtor who asks also you can not threaten a debtor with any legal action that you can not legally do.  also if the statue of limitations has expired. there is NOTHING they can do  THEY ARE SCAMMERS AND DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION, BANK ACCOUNT  OR CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD INFO THEY CAN NOT LEGALLY PROSECUTE YOU.  They also can not serve a bench warrant with out first a judgement being granted and you would have to be served first, if you have not been served they can't do anything also the would have to issue a hearing in aid and a show cause before a bench warrant can be issued if you can get their info report them to your state attorney generals office, the better business bureau and the fdcpa

Caller claimed to be representing AOL technical support and wanted to help solve computer problems because my computer had been hacked.  Caller stated a csrss.exe had been found and it was a Trogen (sp?) virus had been found.  Even showed me a Google site that identified csrss.exe.  Wanted to sell me a "Sonic Wall" protection program for $1999.00 to fix everything from SonicWall.com.  Geek Tech was the logo name on the Sonic Wall provider.
If you log onto LogmeinRescue.com the caller will download your hard and ID the errors.  I believe it is one big scam.

Sounds similar to the fake Microsoft calls I get from India telling me my computer is "infected" or some other such nonsense.  Ignore 'em.

This number was given supposedly from AOL to tell me I was hacked and needed to pay them almost 700.00 for them to diagnose and repair my computer.

I think you should tell the AOL guy to lay off those Colorado cookies! Unless he's been sniffing the yellow pages of the Mumbai telephone book. Yeah, I'm going with the last one. I always tell people when they get these calls, say "How's the weather in India today?".

My experience with this number was a bit different. I went to log into my AOL account and this number popped up and said my account had been locked due to suspicious activity (Huh)?? So I called it and they said it was aol and there had been SPAM emails sent from my account and they would have to remote into my computer to see where my email account was being hacked from. I explained I had several email accounts and wanted to know which email account the SPAM emails came from. He could not tell me and was adoment on me letting him have remote access to my computer. After a few choice words from me and a half hour conversation I hung up and then looked for aol number and called. Good thing I did because I was told this person was a Hacker.

W had the same experience as Reesie.  NEVER allow ANYONE to remote into your computer!  That gives them complete access to your computer...passwords and all!  When you call the number, notice how it says, "thank you for calling, someone will be with you shortly".  It doesn't give a company name.  That is your first clue.  Any reputable company will proudly state their name on the electronic greeting.  We asked for his operator ID and he gave us JN1210.  Probably his initials and phone extension number.  These people need to get a real freaking job and stop trying to steal from all of the hard working people in this world!

This was a real scam.  The phone # popped up when I was trying to log into my AOL account.  I called it and the guy said he was with AOL and would help me.  He then had me change the URL on my computer and "took over" the computer.  There was a line which said:  "cc:/ hack trace. nigeria. error in network."  He said someone tried to hack into my computer and it appeared so - he had me hooked.  He also said he sees that I have a certain antivirus protection but it didn't pick up the hacking.  Then he look for more "stuff" and said I can have this hacking corrected by buying a microsoft fix for $560, or something like that - but right now I could get it for $249.  I said I was going to check with my computer guy first - he said, your son?  No, I said, the guy who fixes my computer.  So, he said I should call him back if I needed to - very helpful, very friendly, very believable.  A true scam.  After worrying about it for about 15 minutes, I ran a full scan and there was nothing wrong.  The computer guy checked it out for me and found nothing.
