I got a call, she stated this is student loan service. She want me fax my SIN and my ID to this fax1-877-360-1387. But it is not a fax, also, it is not a Ontario student loan service. I think this is a spam.

I got a call today from NSLSC with the same request (please fax SIN and ID to the above number). I called the NSLSC (their number is at http://www.canlearn.ca/eng/main/help/contact/csl.shtml) and confirmed that this was a legit request. They told me it was and gave me the same ID number and fax number. I recommend that everyone always calls and confirms that it's a legit request before sending personal info like this.

I received a phone call from restricted number and asked to fax a copy of my SIN card and passport within 18 days at 1 877 360-1387.  He also told me that national student loan service center does not have my SIN number and ID.  I am sure about that fact that National Student Loan Service Center has my SIN number and ID.  I sure that it is a scam.  Hope no one faxes any thing to this fax number and call  1(888) 815-4514.

Oh my~!!! I just got this phone call today. He said that he needed my SIN card (copied) and passport to process my student loan. He said that he is a agent from "National student loan centre". I asked his name and what department. He said that he is from P.I.R department.
I didn't fax anything yet. I am gonna call National student loan centre tomorrow. This is wrong. That means There site is hacked by some con-man(or company).
I will post another message tomorrow after calling the centre. Thanks for posting man!
What a scam! To the student who needs money to study. It this is real scam. I will call the police and news. What a shame.

Hi! I just called the National student loan centre. They confirmed that that was right call. It was not a scam. However, as others suggested, It's always better to make sure (calling them to confirm) before sending your important id to them.

I got a call asking to re-send my VOIDED cheque to process my student loan application. She knew that my previously sent cheque didnt have my name printed on it (it was a counter cheque) and she said I needed to fill this part out with SIN # and fax it. I am going to do this since she knew that my cheque was a counter cheque and since you all verified the validity of her call. Thanks!

I got this call earlier this morning, and confirmed that it was not a scam by calling 1(888) 815-4514. Best off safe than sorry!

1-877-360-1387 is the legitimate fax number for the Canadian National Student Loan Service Centre.  I called them to verify since some people think that it is a scam.  However, it is best to check when someone over the phone asks you to send them you passport number and SIN number.

This fax number is legitimate. I think it would be better if you contacted NSLSC at 1-888-815-4514 to confirm though.

Yup it's them. I was missing a signature on one of my forms (I have a personal copy of the same form) and they asked me to sign it and fax it to this number. It has to be them because when I looked at my copy it was missing the same signature they asked for.

Had the same problem. I didn't want to give them my SIN, but they seem to know all the details about my application as well as the fact that I failed to provide them with a void check with my name on it. I had asked at my campus post office and they told me there was no need for the name on my check. I was later explained that there's no way for NSLSC to tell then whether it is my account or not.

The number they left on my voicemail to call back belongs to NSLSC and it is listed as their primary number (1-888-815-4514), so it looks like it's all legit. Plus, I was told that I would not need to fax them my SIN if I didn't feel comfortable doing so, and that my ID# would suffice.

To be honest, if that's the case, they should do a better job calling people back as we all see the incoming call as "Blocked" and as soon as you answer, an automated operator (machine) is asking for your SIN. As far as I know this is a governmental office, so this procedure is just absolutely inappropriate.

We got the same call and asked to verify with passport and sin # and fax with a PIR #.  I confirmed the telephone # they called from on-line and it it NSLSC.  Also, does this mean I am approved?

It seems to be legitimate. I I had a voicemail sitting from the number 9053066249 this morning asking me to call back the National Student Loans Services Centre at 18772831689. Just my name, and that it was urgent for me to call back.

I called back and the representative and I talked. While I was doubtful at first, the representative did confirm that the address I had on my application was my new address (I recently moved and this was the only place I had given my new address to). The problem with my application was that the post office that I took my MSSAF to didn't stamp it properly; they just signed the document as per the usual method when we got our yellow and green forms from OSAP at school. So now I have to send in 2 pieces of government ID to 18773601387 to the PIR Department.

I have yet to reach the NSLSC on their main line. I'll reply to this post when I hear something.

I got this call just now. It was strange. Why does the NSLSC have to call us at our house asking about our SIN/bank account info? VERY STRANGE.
I'm not replying back unless I talk to NSLSC and they confirm it. Either way, it's still weird...My sister has gone to university for almost 4 years and they haven't called her about anything being wrong with her bank info. Even if there are mistakes, they just send her a cheque instead of putting it in her account.

My advice: don't listen until you confirm it.
