Accused of Fraud

SCAM- This company called my father and left a message w/him to have me call them. When I called this company they would not tell me what they wanted and further more told me to "shut up" when I grew aggressive at obtaining information from them. I did research online and found this company "The Counsel Firm" has a website that has only been active for 5 months and upon reading reviews from others, changes their name when people begin to catch on to their scam to obtain your personal information from you. Not only that...when I told them not to call my dad anymore the guy on the phone stated that they do not make outbound calls.....lies. How else would my dad have gotten this information? They called.

Pretty much the same kind of situation as Pamela, except a voicemail was left on my phone.   The only thing differently said, was that they had the wrong person and would remove my number from their call list.

They keep calling my place of work and threating me with jail and saying i need to be served. Calling with a last name i have not used in like 7 years . I told them to quit calling and they blew up my work phone how do i make them stop. Also they won't tell me who the credit i owe money to is.

They keep calling my place of work. and asking for me by a name i have not used in 7 years. They will not tell me who the credit collector is for who i apperantly owe money to. I thought it was illegal for these people to call people place of work. and how the heck do they get your phone numbers mine are not listed cause me and my family are under victim witness protection.

They called my father and said I owed money on a business I have never heard of. Said they were going to serve legal papers and take legal action. My father is elderly with health problems and this upset him even more.  When I called I asked them to send me a bill in the mail if I owe them something and they got very aggressive and said I had to pay that day.

Known criminal enterprise.  Following is what you need to know and where to report their criminal activity.

They call family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money.

You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation, cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (think of it as the best $6.47 you ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notion of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

Neither firm is registered in California as required by law to legally do business.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

I don't think they really care, but from what I understand those boxes are under the jurisdiction of the USPS.  If that's true, then maybe the postal inspectors would like to know.

Got a call from this number for someone unknown to me.  They were rude and hung up on me when I tried to let them know the person they wanted did not reside here nor did I know of this person.

A guy identifying himself as Mike Lopez left a message saying he was looking for my ex wife and if I didn't call, a law suit would go forward without my consent.  When I called, they wouldn't give me any info as to what they wanted with her and I was told they didn't make outgoing calls there so I couldn't talk to Lopez. I finally talked to the super, who removed my number from the contact list. Or so he said.
