- working man bluesIts amazing to me every one boo hoo's being a legit debt collector and saying to go work for mcdonalds, maybe in the ghetto mcdonalds is a good job but not in the real world, you people need to grow up and take responability for your debt. Suck it up losers.
- Jamie replies to sueing youThere is a legal way to collect on a bad check, the company needs to file through the courts systems and process through it legally, some of these people want 3x the amount for a check, that is illegal,
so please keep your nasty comments to yourself, these people are crooked and not legal, - jamie replies to California Girllegally they have to send you a bill through the mail, if they can not, do not pay, I had a check that was returned, I already paid for it, they wanted 3x the amount, I too ask for a bill they said no, I said well then you will not get a payment from me, if they can not produce a paper explaining what you are paying for, do not give them information
- david| 1 replyI am dealing with this [***] William Taylor now telling me that I owe him money for bad checks, my mother and I had a checking account together and her checks were stolen and used for multiple stores. Somehow two of her bad checks that this lady wrote and has now gone to prison for identity theft has come back on me. I asked him to send me All the paper work on me telling me what I supposedly owe him and he has yet to do so, he wants 3x the amount that the checks were written for in the first place, all he wants me to do is send him the proof that these checks were stolen so he can have his personal investigators check that I'm not sending him fake documents, I don't want to send him anything without proof of what he has. So my question is how do I get this off my credit report? He threatened to sue me already but that's ok I have all the document stating that he's wrong, he won't get a dime out of me.

- Resident47 replies to davidThe burden of proof is theirs, not yours. I doubt this bunch even has a "personal investigator" on staff.
As it sounds like you have strong violations of the FDCPA, I would concentrate first on building that part of the lawsuit(s) you should file, then obtain hard copies of bureau reports. Reason being, you get much more time to bring a claim under FCRA. If false data was reported, the FCRA damages rack up for *each month* the faulty trade lines appear until the mess is discovered.
A suit naming the "information furnisher", either NLG or a debt buyer or both, would be the most direct way to force deletion of the bad trade lines. Some advise disputing the bureaus themselves first, which for a page of complex reasons can be like beating a brick wall, but not a bad idea since the bureaus can also be sued for maintaining false entries.
If you can get past the commercial content and ties to dubious law firms, the Credit InfoCenter site has comprehensive discussion of your rights under FCRA and FACTA. DebtorBoards is the other go-to for legal combat with debt collectors. Get friendly with the laws from their source while you're on it.

- ah| 1 replyrec'd a call from Jim Hammer, attorney. Is he legit?
- Caller: northeast legal group
- Irritated recipientRecd call from male, claiming to be Jim Hammer from "attorney's office". Proceeds to say I have a matter with them and for me to call. Did not specify what the call was in regards to, yet he did have my correct name. How does this happen when we have an unlisted phone number?
- Caller: No company name given
- Blocking numbers| 1 replyReceived a call from a Racheal Green from Northeast Legal Group. Blocked the number because I do not write checks therefore I cannot have a bad check anywhere. When asked for proof of this check I was told they were not required to send a copy of the check and my bank would have it. My bank has no such record of returning a check in the last two years. What now? I block one number and recieve calls from other numbers.

- Paralegal replies to loser deadbeatSorry to inform you Sir but there is no such thing as going to jail for debt of the jails would not be able to hold everyone. No debtors prison. Bad thing happen to good people and sometimes that makes them get behind. If you are not one of these people why are you on this blog. It sound like maybe you work for NORTHEAST LEGAL GROUP perhaps. That being the case this does not sound like a law firm to me or they would not be worried what people are saying on this blog because they would be within their legal rights.
- just wowI received this call today and tried to return it, only because I recently had a death in the family and since the message said,m "from attorney's office", I thought it might have to do with that.
I have no credit, car is paid for, no CC's and I am still using the same initial 250 checks I got 11 years ago with my opening an account LOL. I don't even pay my landlord with a check, I just deposit the money in his account. I own no one but school loans and I pay one and a half that payment every month.
So...returning the call, I get a message that it is a non-working number.
So, you guys can call me deadbeat all you want, but I know I don't have an outstanding check out there anywhere, nor do I have a late payment to anyone.- Caller: Jim Hammer
- FedUpGot a call from 877-437-5904 Amanda Clark. Threatening to take me to court if i don't pay an old medical bill. Normally, if you know it is a debt that you owe-they will accept 60% of the total payable in payments. When you ask them to accept 60% they know that you have done your homework. I have been cleaning up my spouses credit for a few years now.

- notorious lawyerThis gentleman is a crook. He refused to relinquish any information regarding the bill and can not confirm any information regarding the outstanding balance, with regards to clients addresses as they have "sent bills numerous times", however can not confirm any address on file.
And to add to the fact that this gentleman is calling from an "Attorney's Office", he is in doubt not an attorney, has no degree to practice law. You can hear the rest of the call center in the background.
Please don't be bullied people, if they can not send you an itemized invoice in the mail showing what you owe then, REFUSE to pay them until they do so. They are getting information from some site and hounding people even after the fact of paying their bill. They won't be around much longer after the FTC gets ahold of them.
The next time Mr. Hammer calls, as he is calling out of NY state (and they aren't required to have a NY bar number), ask him to send you proof that he is indeed a lawyer. 9 times out of 10 he will hang up on you.- Caller: 877-437-5905
- amanda| 3 repliesYou call us the crooks. We are not the crooks. You know you owe these debts, and you don't want to pay them. We are just doing our jobs actually working for money that we spend on services and other things. Who's the crooks? I know the fees aren't great, but everyone needs to get paid! Its your fault that you let it get this far. Northeast legal group follows the FTC laws to the books. They know them in and out. They are not scamming. Everyone falls on hard times but don't act like they are just making things up out of nowhere when you know they are not. They are not required to send you a bill. They tell you what your original balance was, and the rest is fees added by the bank and the collection agency. Why do you need to waste paper for that? Just to waste time? If you just don't feel like paying your debt just say you don't want to pay it.
