- Resident47 replies to amanda} You know you owe these debts, and you don't want to pay them.
We don't "know" anything, and neither do you, until "these debts" are validated. Naturally I decline to pay anything on the word of some disdainful stranger on the phone.
} We are just doing our jobs actually working for money that we spend on services and other things.
I perform paid work which contributes to the enrichment of others' lives without feeling the need to violate laws. Your job is to attach a siphon hose to the earnings of those who would otherwise be contributing to a distressed economy, and do so by any deception or extortion deemed necessary.
} I know the fees aren't great, but everyone needs to get paid!
When you deny my rights, you no longer need me to pay for your fees, or commissions, or performance bonuses. Push me hard enough and I need to get paid for the trouble you cause.
} Its your fault that you let it get this far.
Riiiight, and AIG, Bank of America, Barclays, Bear Stearns, CitiGroup, Countrywide, Deutsche Bank, Enron, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Lehman Brothers, Magnetar Capital, Merril Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Royal Bank of Scotland, Washington Mutual, et al had absolutely no part of influencing the misfortunes of millions of people who were not invited to their economic casino games.
} Northeast legal group follows the FTC laws to the books. They know them in and out.
They might have to know the laws quite well in order to bend and break them consistently without getting shut down. That and change locations and/or names frequently. How long until the FTC follows the NELG "books" to find its true home and internal rules?
} don't act like they are just making things up out of nowhere
I see, and NELG reps never act that way when they make hostile and illegal empty threats.
} They are not required to send you a bill.
True, not unless I hire NELG to collect. Alleged debtors who demand it are required to receive printed validation if they are ever to be contacted again.
} They tell you what your original balance was, and the rest is fees added by the bank and the collection agency.
This you can tell before you even order the full media? Such clairvoyance must be a gift.
} Why do you need to waste paper for that? Just to waste time?
It's not a waste to exercise caution and invoke the protections to which we are legally entitled. It is a waste to pay toward some unverified, unsubstantiated, and possibly uncollectable claim. What's your hurry? Doesn't your boss pay enough? Are you short of your quota? Can't you just order proof from the original creditor as the FTC demands without an argument? Is that so very much harder than fuming and lying on the phone?
} If you just don't feel like paying your debt just say you don't want to pay it.
... and hear a vicious lecture from you about what an irresponsible parasite you think I am? You know very well that "don't wanna" is not a proper defense. How about if you don't feel like obeying laws before you make a play for my assets, you just say so and I will name you as "defendant" before the weekend so neither of us have to waste any more of your precious time.
} You call us the crooks. We are not the crooks.
We can use a different term if you like. I suggest one of the following:
bugiardo, charlatan, cheat, con artist, criminal, deceiver, dief, dorobo, extortionist, fraudster, hoodlum, huijari, klamár, ladron, lazov, liar, malefactor, melãgis, menteur, mentiroso, scofflaw, scoundrel, steliston, swindler, thief, thug, tjuv, transgressor, valehtelija, vara, voleur, wrongdoer - MikesterJust got a voice mail from some guy with a real @sshole sounding voice, trying to interrogate me or something. Said it was a "legal matter" ... I have no collections items at this time and not about to phone anybody who only plans to intimidate me. I'm not into that kind of bullsh1t and don't appreciate having the minutes wasted on my phone for some jerk to sit around getting paid to scare people. You know what you piece of [***], next time don't try to build your wealth on debting other people, that's what I have to say about that!! I haven't done business with any banks, in YEARS for this kind of crap. - Ms P replies to sueing youThat's pure "BS". How the hell is this site being monitored to be used against anybody in court when there is no personal information inputed in the system. I could be from the other side of the world........you wouldn't know. And even if the IP address is traced, you still could never substantiate who made a comment or reply. I guess you really think everybody on this site is dumb.
- Yeah right replies to amandaOK, how do you guys follow the FTC laws "to the books" when you are constantly violating them? I was contacted last year by this company regarding a check that was written many years ago as a result of identity theft. Your "law firm" threatened to sue me, which (being that you were outside of the statute of limitations) was a violation of the FTC. Your "law firm" was also falsely representing how many accounts you guys had on my credit report, which is another violation of the FTC.
When I spoke with your "law firm" I was continually harrassed and told that I owed this money, regardless of who wrote the check. That's simply not true. I'll use a fun example some of your other co-workers have used in the past on this site: If this were true, I could simply go to your house, steal your checks, use them to buy a bunch of things, and you would have to pay for them.
Oh yeah, your company also refused to validate the debt. That's another FTC violation. I almost feel bad for being nice and deciding to send a letter instead of taking you guys to court!
You can say you're not a crook all you want. All it makes you look like is Nixon. - KKGot a call from Sharon Gray (Grey) of NLG about a grave legal matter instructing me to call her back @ (877) 437-5095.(that's the number I wrote down) When she called it came up as Caller Unknown on my cell phone. I haven't had the inclination to call them back but when I do I will require everything in writing especially proof of any debt owed. Since I don't go around writing bad checks, etc and I am a lawyer, I would suggest everything be done in writing.

- GaryYou can register a complaint with the FCC on line. When they get numerous complaints on a number or company, they will take action (fines and pulling their phone service). The web site is www.fcc.gov/complaints. Fill out the form and send it to them.

- Somewhere In NYI was just left a voicemail from an Unknown Number and when I checked the message, it was from "Diane" claiming to be from "Northeast Legal Group" about an "important legal matter" and a file number I needed to note down. #1 - I do not and have not had a checking account or any type of credit card since I was in high school. #2 - most, if not all collection agencies would send you notification through snail mail if there was a debt you owe, not send you harassing phone calls like this one. Definitely sounds like a scam.

- Elizabeth HellerReceived a call from an "Unknown/Unavailable" number this morning. When I listened to the voice mail, it sounded super fishy to me. Especially because it read as an unknown number on my CID. Decided to look up the number left in the message to see what it really was. What I found on this website was shocking. I won't be calling them back!

- JohnThe so called attorneys at North East Legal Group are not attorneys. They are Junk Debt Buyers. They are breaking state and federal laws by trying to collect on a returned check... the most they are entitled to by law is the amount of the returned check plus $25.00. They are demanding the amount of the check x 3. For example, a $100.00 returned check, they bill the consumer for $400.00 which is illegal.
I would suggest that people file suit in Small Claims Court. The truth is, most people feel guilty about having a returned check and they are afraid they can go to jail if they don't pay it. If they try to send this to the DA, you can sue the debt collector for more damages.
You only have to pay the check plus $25.00. That's it.- Caller: Northeast Legal Group
