- Annoyed| 5 repliesI keep getting scam calls and now they are calling my family looking for me!! How do I get them to stop calling me and my family???
- Tamianth replies to Annoyed| 4 repliesConsider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so. If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. For tracfone & straight talk:

For text messages: forwarding any text message spam you get to the short code “7726,” which spells “spam” on most phones, to alert your network operator to the abuse. ATT won't accept 7726 But they will accept BLOCK and return a message that the web site is blocked. forward the texts to 7726 or BLOCK, depending on your phone carrier.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers. - Mike replies to Tamianth| 2 repliesOr, this person, and their family members, could simply not answer the calls, rather than having them delaying the matter, by doing a lot of considering.

First time I received a call for a Mr Johnson, the man claimed to be a detective and was threatening. I know it's a scam. Annoying as hell...

- A little bit wiserI got a call from this number just today, only it shows up as 877-249-1356. The guy left a voicemail with the 877-481-6956 as a return call number, but didn't reveal his name. He states in the message that he has an official complaint with "substantial evidence" against me. The call was from a consultant at Northeastern Consulting Group.
The Northeastern Consulting Group contacted me two years ago from a different number stating the same thing. They threatened me and tried to get me to pay them $800.00 for a payday loan I didn't take out! They had a lot of information about my former bank and even said they had video. I asked the guy to send me an official letter with letterhead, return address and information on the debt. He refused stating he needed to payment by the end of the day or he will file charges against me.
I provided an email address for him to send me the requested information. The email I received was a joke! It had no letterhead and no specific information on the debt, just the amount they were trying to get me to pay! I consulted with a lawyer and he explained that it was likely a scam because they MUST, by law, provide a written statement of debt owed, the institution owed and any other relevant information to the "debtor" upon request. I also checked my credit report to see if there were any matching debts or companies, which there was not!
I never received anything in the mail or otherwise regarding this so-called debt. I didn't move or change my number in that time period, however, I hadn't heard from them since, until today. I would caution anyone who gets a call from this number on providing any information to these people! The callers are aggressive, abusive and shady!- Caller: NE Consuting Group
