We have no debt. We had a loan 35 years ago that was paid off in full ahead of time. That's it. No credit card debt. No co-signs. Nothing. Yet this company persists on calling us day and night for years. They are a scam. We have formally complained against them to our state and to the fed. Nothing has been done. They should all be serving prison sentences! Do not pay them anything. Most of the so-called debts that they bring up are past the statue of limitations and have been written off the books of anyone owed. You have the right to receive your credit history from the three credit bureaus once a year. Go through the process and check them each year. Any debt you do owe will be listed there. Take care of it directly with who you owe. Do NOT pay this rip off company! We are cancelling our landline because of them (we never use it and none of our family or friends call us there..only our cells).

Just received a robo call and reported it to the do not call list with my phone number also. Hopefully, this stops them from calling me. These companies should be put out of business - no one leaves any information so what's it all about? Do not call number is 888-382-1222. Report them, it's easy!

What is easy is not often correct. The federal Do-Not-Call registry exists to help enforce the Telemarketing Sales Rule. Please note the operative term ''marketing''. A debt collector is not a sales person and is therefore not covered. The few remaining state lists share this limitation. Here are the DNCR service terms you were supposed to review at registration time:

National Do Not Call Registry Q&A
    http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0108-national-do-not-call-registry

Complaints invoking such lists against exempt callers are clogging up the Consumer Sentinel Network and slowing down the job of frustrating lawbreakers. File *proper* complaints with the CFPB, FTC, and attorneys general.

}  I'm taking them at their word. .... instead of getting upset about the calls.

Well, yippee skippy for you and your "more reasonable than thou" posture. Allied Interstate is well known for melting down phone lines with incessant calls, often misdirected, and not taking verbal demands seriously. The rest of us have to get on a Certified Mail paper trail to halt the madness. Should they fail to obey written orders, I would let a summons and FDCPA complaint "finally nip things in the bud".

Yeah .... "how these places work" is not how the FTC would like them to work. It's not my job as an alleged debtor to "keep sending proof to whomever owns the debt" every time some South Asian hit man on the phone wants my money. It remains the *agency's job* to seek proof I owe if requested timely. Otherwise, iQor / AI can piss up a rope and obey my no-contact orders.

It's "no use to report to Do Not Call" because debt collectors are exempt, a fact you were supposed to learn when you registered.

Sure, a "boondoggle" which has kept my phone 98% free of trashy sales calls for its entire ten year existence. Various federal laws are agnostic to the sources of illegal calls. But again, you must understand which laws cover what types of calls, and take action yourself if you want a quieter phone.

... in a manner you cannot prove, no doubt. To halt the misfired skip trace calls, laying a paper trail is far more effective than verbal denials. My advice for "not me" cases is found here:

} based offshore, so the DNC list won't help.

No, the fact that these are not sales calls makes them exempt, not the location of a call center. They're not going bankrupt anytime soon, either. Debt buying is a brisk business in the New Depression.

When your rights are violated by these goons, you can't "just leave it". You gather your evidence and you sue for FDCPA, FCRA, and TCPA violations as appropriate. Our resistance may break their persistence.

I'm not sure you heard "insurance", but you're right about the peculiar shyness of that agent. He's supposed to give up a business name without a fight. Trying to deny a return number may be an effort to keep them controlling the message. It may also be a move to frustrate a person's right to deal with the collector on polite terms.

Whether you are called a debtor or some collector thinks you can flush one out, you have rights and options. Many are simple to exercise if you only learn how. You are entitled to proof of claim and fair treatment. If one or the other is not provided, the collection agency should *not* win your assets. You are granted control of how you are contacted, the right to dispute debt claims, and the means to sue violators at low cost. The FTC and the CFPB can start you on your homework. See also if your state laws grant additional or stronger rights.
