I received a call from this company today.  There was a recording that the message was being recorded.  They asked for someone who doesn't live at this number so I told them the apparently had a wrong number.  He was polite and said he would remove my number.  That remains to be seen, but at least he wasn't as rude as most telemarketers or debt collection agencies.

Fifth Third is a joke as a bank.  They repeatedly allowed the local college to take student loans out of my checking account.  Even when there was no money to cover the loan amount.  I am unemployed and looking desperately for a job.  Each time the bank would tell me they would block it and then the college would take the money out again.  Turns out these were private loans from the college which they use when the Federal Loan runs out for the semester.  Colleges don't tell the students that the money is coming from the institution until they start taking it out of your bank account.  I finally called the head of Fifth Third and then closed the account.  Yet these people keep calling.  I owe them nothing at this point.  But they call constantly.

Two calls in the last hour; as soon as get two words into the intro script (this is a reception desk at a county agency and there's a set way to answer the phone) they disconnect without even a "sorry, wrong number".  Rude, and disrespectful of the clients who *do* need our services and have to wait for them to waste my time.

The consumer is getting daily calls that are abandoned, no one is there.  She filed a robocall complaint with the FCC and is going to report debt collector/potential scam to the FTC.

I get calls from this number "Allied Interstate." it rings once and then nothing, I don't evn have time to answer the phone. By the time I pick it up they are already gone.

What they are doing is illegal and you now have an excellent FDCPA and possibly a TCPA lawsuit.  Here is what you should do:

You need to send them a certified, return receipt cease and desist calling letter (think of it as the best $6.47 you ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

All in all this seems extremely suspect, having so many business names, and so many violations of the FDCPA.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

They are a legit company. After my student loan went into default, they were the ones that took over the loan from Sallie Mae/Navient. Actually, they have been one of the better collectors to deal with. My debt was legitimate and the loan was negotiated and handle. Has since been removed from my credit. However, today I received a missed call from them, looking for a different person but with my number showing on their list. I told them that was not correct and how is it even possible, since I had a legit account with them? He said they would remove my number, but I'll block them anyways, as they never actually remove anyone.
