    1. So why is it that so many MCU cardholders appear to have given MCU incorrect phone numbers?  Some people responding here are not MCU cardholders but were called and given a name not associated the the called number.

    2. Why doesn't MCU just indicate on http://www.nymcu.org/ that this is a legitimate number used by them - if it is?

    3. What dope today calls back a phone number left on a voice mail without verifying it is legit?

This is a legitimate call from Educational Systems Federal Credit Union Fraud Prevention Unit.  When you make at least 3 or more purchases in one day, they will call to verify that the purchases were made by you or someone you authorized.

I just got off the phone with my bank.  1-877-504-1031 is Visa's Fraud Protection number and they do ask some personal identifying questions.  I have been the victim of a fraud scheme like this, so I will always call my bank during banking hours.  If they freeze my card before we can verify things, I will live with it.  Once again this is a valid fraud protection number.

    Call Tomorrow during Business Hours
I am a MCU member. During a trip to the supermarket this evening I was informed by the cashier there were insufficient funds on my debit card. I thought it odd, but didn't make a federal case about it. When I arrived at home I logged into my bank account to find that both my savings and checking accounts have been breached. I called customer service frantic. Bank is closed. Called this number - Fraud Protection- and they told me there is nothing they can do. I have to call back during business hours in the morning because THEY DIDN'T CALL ME. CUSTOMERS CANNOT REPORT FRAUD, MCU's Fraud Protection Dept has to contact YOU!!!...    ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I'm reporting that my savings and checking accounts are being siphoned and she keeps insisting that there isn't anything she can do. Good protection - Thank you!!

I just called MCU and the 877 number is legit.  If the automation is calling you to verify some current transactions please do so because the MCU representative said they will cut your card off, or you can call MCU directly. I advised them to put something on their website in reference to that number so people are aware MCU fraud department is calling.  I hope this helps!

Actually, they’re not scammers. I spoke with them, I called them at the same number. They, not me, verified my info. I had to cancel my MCU card with them bcuz it seems my card was compromised. Everything was legit. They said I should go into a branch to get a new card if I want it right away or wait 7-10 business days. I went in and got a new card.

Do you always look up and post about numbers you know are "good"? Responding to the OP from 2008?  I think you are a shill doing some damage control.

To Future Readers and Posters:  Posts going back to 2008 suggest this is a scam.  Remember that numbers and names can be spoofed in your Caller ID.  If you get a call from this number, be very careful about what info you offer or confirm. If you lost a bank or credit card, you can call the bank or CC company on a number you know is good.
