I am tired of this. this company has been making claims that I owe for a payday loan but have yet to produce any evidence supporting this claim. They also began harassing my wife, mother and mother-in-law. So in retaliation for this I did a little research and low and behold what do i find. The collections company responsible is named BRG Collections, LLC. They have an F rating with the better business bureau right now and looks like they have for a while. With a few web searche I found out BRG collections is owned solely by one person. William Roy Blanton. He lives just outside of Atlanta. For those wondering there is a public document that shows his financial holdings where he has controlling stake in the company. Actually there are several considering it needs to be filed anually. He is listed as having 100% voting shares in the company. He also owns another collection company known as Ponzi.....ahem Ponce.

"Hello this is Sarah, this message is regarding our location and tracing efforts for, (pauses for machine to insert last name & first name), dial 0 to speak to one of our representatives or call 877-412-4086. It is important that we speak with you in regards to their whereabouts. If we cannot verify this information through you the law, allows us to contact all references on file. If you are unable to provide any information please contact us regardless at 877-412-4086 Thank you."

I have googled the crap out of that phone number and nothing comes up, but when I typed in "Hello this is Sarah, this message is regarding our location" this was the only thing that came up. I see that "Sarah" is a busy bee with different phone numbers.

I would love to know how they got my phone number. This needs to stop

I know I owe money but when I research the company name nothing comes up. Left a voice recorded message. First of all they never gave the name of their company on v/m or who they represent.  Unprofessional. Is this a SCAM

Got repeated calls from this number loading up my voicemail with messages like: "Hello my name is Rebecca this message is regarding our location and tracing efforts for. Norman Zaphari. It is important we speak with you regarding their whereabouts. If we cannot verify this information through you the law allows us to contact all references on file." I've had this call five times, and do not know anyone with that name. Not wasting my time calling them back. File a police report, ask questions later. SCAMSCAMSCAM.

Now calling under the number 888-574-1237. Got same message from "Anthony Robocaller: My name is Anthony this message is regarding our location in tracing office for ***** it is important that we speak with you regarding their whereabouts if we cannot verify this information with you we are permitted to contact all references on file dial zero now to speak with a representative or call 1-888-574-1237. If you are unable to provide any information please call the office regardless at 1-888-574-1237 your immediate response is appreciated.” Called back. They didn't identify who they were; started the call with the standard "this call will be recorded for training purposes...blah blah blah" After I asked repeatedly the name of his company, he said NEP.  Don't know what those initials are, or even if they're legit. Anyways, the person he asked about passed away and I told him so. He asked me to verify the person's date of birth.  I told him I didn't know it, but that he had a heart attack in like 2011 to which he responded "And that's what did it?"  Me: "wut". Him: Thats what killed him?  I'm asking so I can report this to our clients.  That's what uh, did him in?" Me: "Did him in?? You are about the rudest (yes I cursed here) I've ever spoken with and I'm reporting this number, this business, this call, and you to the police"  Him (cool as a cucumber) "OH really, how am I rude, ma'am"?   I did not see anything good happening from this point, so I hung up here and blocked the number.

    PATTERN OF COMPLAINT
BBB found a  pattern of complaint exists concerning lack of customer service and difficulty for consumers to obtain dunning letters with validation of debt information. We have also identified a pattern in your responses to complaints stating that your company has done no wrong doing and providing a validation of debt letter.  Not all components of the complaints are being answered or addressed.  This includes threatening the consumer which a number of the complaints reference your company doing and releasing personal information about the debt to third parties.

    ALERT
Collection agencies are required to be licensed or bonded in many states in order to operate and contact consumers about outstanding debts.  BBB has reached out to this business requesting that they provide proof of licensing and bonding required for operating everywhere they do business. However, they have failed to respond to our requests.

BBB wants to make consumers aware that they have legal rights when they are contacted by a collection agency. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) prohibits abusive and harassing behavior by any debt or collection agency, this act is enforced by the Federal Trade Commission, FTC. The act states specific practices and rules under which debt collectors must abide by.  There are penalties for agencies found breaking these laws.  Collection agencies must not use crude or offensive language or identify themselves as anyone other the business name that they are contacting on behalf of.  If a consumer believes a debt or collection agency has violated any of the FDCPA laws the BBB encourages them to file complaints with the BBB at www.bbb.org and Federal Trade Commission at www.ftc.gov.

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.

If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

    1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
    2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
    3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  dime until the debt is validated

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.

If they are bothering you, report them:

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a  violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.)  The same goes for endless telephone harassment

Note that the US Supreme Court in the Case of HENSON ET AL. v. SANTANDER CONSUMER USA INC., has recently ruled that the provisions of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act do not apply if the creditor owns the debt in question.  As a practical matter this probably won't effect the kinds of scam debt collectors who often show up on 800notes.  The scam collectors don't give you any information about themselves so it is impossible to know whether or not they in fact "own" the debt in question.  Most do not send debt validation letters and many often say they are collecting for someone else.  So, make the complaint anyway if they are bothering you.  Let the FTC sort it out.

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you,  and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.

You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.  Tell 'em  no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.

You have to get tuff with these people because,  being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking).   the only thing they understand.
