I have put in writing twice, by certified mail, that the only way I wish to converse with these people is through the mail and they refuse and continue to call. I wish I knew an attorney who would go after them, but I cannot afford the rates I am quoted from the attorneys I do contact.  So, what is one to do?

Attorneys are very easy to find, but since you seem to be having problems, maybe this will help:

Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

Some do pay and get calls on 10 year old debts. Stop being a troll. They tried this on my elderly mother once and her solicitor put a dead halt to it as Medicare had already took care of it years ago. Mom kept every bloody receipt too.

If it has been that long I am sure the statute of limitations applies.

Sorry but that was a huge mistake....I sure hope it turns out well for you....BECAUSE NO ONE SIX A 6 DOLLAR DEPT to a debt collector.....the place you origanally owed would have just wrote it off......I sure hope that THEY dont cheat you and say that six dollars was your agreed first payment on a larger amount.......if They say its a payment....then youve just agreed you owed the whole amount......not saying they did this but you should never trust them....

To the [***] BLW who says "pay your bills and you won’t have to worry about them calling you":  They thought of that, genius.  I don't know if you can read, but most of these posters don't owe anybody anything.  Scammers call random people all of the time hoping to extort money from them.  As far as being responsible, you are either a trust fund baby or too young to know that S&*t happens.  When you have money trouble, I hope you remember what you wrote here, child.

P.S.  When someone DOES default on a bill, the creditor gets insurance payouts and tax write-offs.  They actually come out ahead.  It doesn't cost anybody anything.  Learn something and grow up.

Thank you....they are Also doing it under DCI COLLECTIONS ALSO....I have perfect credit....I was getting dci robocalls 2x a day from a city in my state....for almost 4 months....I just ignore them cause its not me they are looking for.....now theyve switched to UCB.....SAME CLOWNS different name....WHO BETTER TO TRY AND SCAM someone with perfect credit....might pay anything at the threat of losing it....dont pick up the phone the minute you talk to them they will pin this debt to YOU.....ITS LAW they have to send notification in THE MAIL 5 DAYS after they start calling....I have never recieved any collection letter FROM DCI ...so if I missed that one....In 5 days I should get one from UCB.....Fact is they dont send to your address cause they dont know your address until you tell them....which means....its a scam....thats why THEY are required to send notification by mail for you to review and have 30 days to respond....if it was legit....they would have already been in your credit report to get your address....SO where do they get your phone number.....from the do not call list....they dont have names just phone numbers....thats why you to have to tell them everything before they talk to you.....

You have some of your facts confused.  It is five days after they talk to you not after the first call.

This medical bill from 2008 is uncollectable. It is far past the statute of limitations.  Don't admit to it or say a thing. It is non collectable. If you acknowledge the debt it starts the clock all over again. Tell them nothing!

Verbally acknowledging a debt does NOT re-set the SOL's on the debt! That is an old wives tale that is most often spread by Junk Debt Buyers & Collectors. Only by paying on a debt that has passed the SOL's in your State will you re-set the Statute of Limitations.
