The guy that called me didn't give any Co's name/or his name just went & ask for me
- MDotson replies to Tina2| 2 repliesJust got a call from them and couldn't get their company name either. They are saying they are suing over some credit card from 2007 that I don't even know anything about. The woman wouldn't let me talk, just kept talking over me and got hostile when I demanded some verification of the debt they are claiming. They ended up hanging up on me. I called back and their "legal department" wouldn't talk to me the second time. I'm thinking they are scammers, trying to scare people with threat of a lawsuit when there is no proof, but I was told they would "gladly" set up some kind of payment arrangement with me to keep it out of court. You could try reporting them to your state attorney general's office because each state has laws that debt collectors must follow.
- B replies to MDotson| 1 replyIn debt colllections, there is a term called "time-barred" which means if you owe a debt, and have not made a payment of any kind in 5-4 years you CANNOT BE SUED in the courts by a collection agency nor the original lending institution. These people buy the balances for pennies on the dollar and then try to collect..it's all about what they can collect over what they paid for the alledged debt. My advise is to google your Statute of Limitations on Debt Collections for your state and see what it says. Do not let these people threaten you with law suits, garnishments or taking your property. You also have the right to "put them on NOTICE" which means if they call you, then the tables are turned and you have the right to sue them in court and collect upto $1500.00 per call.....Also look up the "Fair Debt Collection Act" read it, print it out and keep it handy..it is your rights as a creditor to be treated in a manner that is not threating. Hope this helps

- Katherine| 1 replyCalled my mothers house & told my step father I had a summons out for me & that he had one hour to get a hold of me & have me call me call them
- alisonThey keep calling me and my parents. They gave an address that I haven't lived at in over 10 years. Tried to get me to verify my ss#. Kept saying that Im going to miss my court date to my parents if they didn't get a hold of me. When I tried calling them back they were extremely rude and every time I refused to give out my info they would transfer me to someone else. They put me on hold and never picked up again when I said I would not give them my SS#. That was Friday, they called me and my parents # again today. SCAMMERS!!!!

- Lesley replies to KatherineThey just called me and told me there was a summons out for my brother... if they were any kind of law firm with a summons, they would know my brother has been in prison for over 5 years... and has 5 to go!
- LesleyThey just called me on a "private number", gave me this number to call back, and told me there was a summons out for my brother... if they were actually any kind of law firm with a summons, they would know my brother has been in prison for over 5 years... and has 5 to go!

- Vickie| 1 replyThey just called saying they have a summons to be delivered to my 78 yr old fatherinlaw, he has 6 stage Alzheimer's so I have no clue what it's really about. They had my husband email POA we have for him, which he did before I could investigate the number
- Caller: Stanislaus Associates
- BigA replies to VickieYeah, typical "process server" call. No doubt your husband will be their next target.
Criminals masquerading as debt collectors attempt to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged (they use the bad check or hot check claim a lot) and go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished without actually being sued or going to court, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt. One of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money. They will use the words “Mediator”, “Arbitrator”, or “Law Office” to make you believe that they are something other than a debt collector want-a-be and that they don’t have to follow Federal and State collection laws. They do have to follow those laws, but they won’t. They mention that they have received a Fax document, to create the sense of urgency. They also tell you that if you fail to call them back you are "waiving your right to council", which is pretty much nothing but hogwash. They also use the “process server” ruse who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer). Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them. Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

I told them they were full of it and to stop calling. Called from another local number right after I hung up, and then yelled that I didn't have common sense after I answered and said to stop harassing me. After that then called a third time with first number and left voicemail to call this number. I have no outstanding debt or anything at all. SOL is done on anything I may have owed in the past. But I will have to check my report to make sure these guys aren't there somehow.
Thing is I worked at a law firm that does work on credit reports so I know all the protections. If they think they can bully me, they will learn real fast I know my rights.- Caller: 877-671-9844
- Jon| 2 repliesGot the same call. Does anybody have a clue what company this is?? Please reply if you do.

- Al replies to Jon| 1 replyI returned the call for a friend of mine. The "legal department" answered. I asked for their company name. He said it was Stanis Law Associates. He said it concerned a legal matter and could not give me any information. He cut me off very rudely. I looked up the firm name. It does not exist in Orange County where I live or the state of California. The only name that appeared in the Calif. Bar web site was James B. Stanis whose home is in Illinoise but was admitted to the California bar in March of 2016.
