- hh2345| 4 repliescall was from an automated system telling me my ATM Visa card had been deactivated and asked for my account or debit card number. the call was fraudulent.
- Granny replies to hh2345| 2 repliesare you sure you got the digits right, because the number you gave is for Pepco electric company power outage reports. I just looked it up to make sure I had it written down in case Sandy alias Frankenstorm took my power down.
- TECH MAN| 2 repliesCalled asking for immediate payment via debit card and threatening to send a team to shut the power off my business. my bill is 6 days overdue.it shows the 877 number from pepco but i believe is a fake port. the guy was rude and said the only way i could stop him from sending a team to shut down power, would be to go to wallmart, wallgreens, and get a prepaid card.
i told him that i will be reporting this call with pepco.- Caller: "PEPCO"

Yes, the "prepaid card" demand is the tipoff.

- SheldonCalled today, January 20th 2016 at 5:20 PM and CID displayed "Unavailable 877-737-2662" and no VM was left. Since no VM was left, the call wasnt important to begin with.

- Lazarus LongMessage from PEPCO warning of possible power outages in the upcoming winter storm. Assuming it's a legitimate warning call since my phone has a DC area code.
- Caller: Pepco
- Call type: Event reminder
- business ownerjust received a call asking for the "business owner" and saying our account is overdue. Definitely a scammer - since we don't have a pepco account - probably scamming the callerID number, too by what else I've read here.
- Caller: "pepco" (not)
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- Me replies to GrannyIt is possible they are spoofing Pepco’s legitamate number, which is publicized online. That number has called several times and left no message. I would assume if it were really Pepco, it would have left one.
- Not Scammed YetThe number said Pepco, and that was the only reason I picked up. But I did not say anything when I picked up and I got no indication that there was going to be a recording or a real person (unlikely). But Polar Vortex is coming, they might have had a recording and they may not initiate the recording unless you say something.
- Caller: Pepco Maybe

- DC residentI believe this is scammers spoofing the actual PEPCO number. I had received a few calls from this number recently but never picked up. Today, I happened to. Man said he was from PEPCO and there was a work order at my address for 4:30 pm (he was calling around 3:30), and they had sent previous notices (not true, tho there were a few missed calls with no message left). Said it was related to my bill and I needed to immediately call 1-800-437-8050 and choose option 1. There is no legitimate work order at my address and I did not call the number.

- Nelka| 1 replySpammer pretending to be from Pepco. It was not the first time "pepco" called me and threatened to disconnect power, because I didn't pay the bill. I told him to go ahead.

- hagerstown mdCaller says they are from the PEPCO disconnection department. They have called the house with different phone numbers. We don't have PEPCO and I told caller as such. He hung up on me.
- Caller: PEPCO

- DC ResidentI didn't pick up because it was an unknown number. Upon looking it up, the number seems connected to Pepco, although I suspect it has been spoofed. They left no message.

- Phyl replies to NelkaSame call caller ID shows the 877 number foreign woman says notices were sent to cut off mu electricity. She asked for me by name. Put husband on to talk since I could not understand the scammer he asked to talk to her supervisor WOW soon as he asked she hung up. I reported it to Pepco immediately. The Real PEPCO!
- BarryU| 1 replyReceived this call yesterday. Person speaking said he was from Pepco and was calling about my overdue bill. The number is in my phone as a Potomac Edison emergency number so I was immediately curious as to why I was getting a call FROM a power company (Pepco) on another company’s emergency call-in number. He told me in hi thick “island” accent that my bill was overdue and they will be sending someone out to cut off power. I told him that was not possible since I installed a large solar power system at my home and currently have almost $300 credit from POTOMAC EDISON. He said someone will be out to cut off power and I told him he was a liar and then hung up. Don’t mess with someone who is way smarter than you and understands exactly what his bill situation is.

- Shawn replies to GrannyYes 👍 that's right, same thing just happened to me 10 min ago. I called the number back because my payment isn't due and they told me there's no reason for them to call me... that it was a scam call and if I had answered the phone that they were going to come turn my lights out if I didn't go get a greendot pre paid card to pay my bill at some side store, PEOPLE ARE SICK!!!
- LauraPepco came up on my caller ID. The caller said that my electric bill was past due and my electricity was going to be cut off if I didn't pay it right now. I knew this was a scam becasue Pepco is not my electric company. The caller's name is Max Lopez. I reported this call to Pepco customer service and the police. Total Scam.
