- Comment replies to JamieConserve is a student loan debt collector.
- JoonaThey are just calling to see if the number is an active working number and if so then they call back at another time from another spoofed number to harass people whether they actually owe a debt or not. Stupid, crazy and ridiculous. I wouldn't pay these scum bags even if I did owe money.

- anonymous| 1 replyCalls received continually asking for someone I do not know. Today I told the man I talked to that I do not know this person, never heard of them, and told him to stop calling my home phone. If this does not stop I will report it to the police department.

The same goes for endless telephone harassment

If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.
You have to get tuff with these people because, being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking), the only thing they understand. - post pending moderator approval

- MinnieI know they're lying when they call me. I haven't attended school in 50 years, before these rip-off student loans! They also call from 844-487-7738 and 877-999-1962. SCUM!

- Jonah replies to ConserveI don't give three quarters of a fat rat's left testicle. I don't have anything which belongs to them. I don't have nor did I EVER have a student loan. Bunch of scavenger rats. In an advanced and enlightened society it would be legal to hunt them

In any event,
Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
If they are bothering you, report them:

Note that the US Supreme Court in the Case of HENSON ET AL. v. SANTANDER CONSUMER USA INC., has recently ruled that the provisions of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act do not apply if the creditor owns the debt in question. As a practical matter this probably won't effect the kinds of scam debt collectors who often show up on 800notes. The scam collectors don't give you any information about themselves so it is impossible to know whether or not they in fact "own" the debt in question. Most do not send debt validation letters and many often say they are collecting for someone else. So, make the complaint anyway if they are bothering you. Let the FTC sort it out.

- KCalls at 8pm at night - just when you think spam callers will keep it to business hours haha yea right! Let it go to voicemail but they never leave a message. I don’t call numbers unless a proper message is left stating a reason why.
- NickObviously a bunch of scammers, calling day and evening, sending "official" looking threats. I'm retired, NEVER attended any college or ever applied for a student loan. Went to work right out of high school, they claim I have student debt! I keep responding "SHOW ME THE MONEY" but they still call and write. I even supplied them with my local magistrate contact info. but they are to lazy to follow thru.

- I Know How You RollI've had too many collectors call if I know how to play this game...
Caller: May I speak to [my name]?
Me: May I ask who's calling?
Caller: [Their name].
That's a big red flag right there. Ordinary people answer with, "I'm X from Y company, calling about Z." Only debt collectors are tight-lipped like that!
Me: And what company are you from, [name]?
Caller: Conserv. Am I speaking to the right person?
Me: If you're a debt collector, she's not interested in talking to you. [•hangs up•]
I don't know what they think they're trying to collect...I'm in school right now, so my private loans are deferred and my federal loans have been at $0 for the past several years due to income-based repayment. Guess they're SoL.- Caller: Conserv (no second e)
- I Know How You RollFinally answered them...they're collecting on a five-year old school debt that shouldn't exist in the first place.
At the time I left [school], they said they'd be sending financial aid back to me, but I'd still owe them X amount of money.
"Why don't you take it out before you send it to me?"
"We can't. That's not our policy." (Or whatever. This was five years ago.)
"Fine. If you can't be bothered to take the money I owe you, then you're never getting it. Simple as that." (REALLY! Who refunds you but still claims you owe them a debt? What kind of screwed up process is that?!)
Guess they're so dumb, they're willing to throw good money after bad. Wonder what Conserv thinks they're going to get?
* SSI can't be garnished.
* SSDI can, but this is money I owe to the school and not a federally-backed loan, it doesn't qualify.
* Take my house? I don't own it.
* Take my car? It's paid off.
* Take my television? Go ahead--it's eleven and not a flatscreen.
* Take my laptop? Yeah, I want a different one, anyway.
* Take my cell? It's two models old and has chipped paint. I don't think you want it.
* Threaten my cat or my parents? There's a butcher knife with your name on it. (Not to mention I live in a county protected by one of the prosecutors that sent Nassar to prison for the rest of his unnatural life.)
* Rob me? And steal what?
* Arson? I went to school with half the fire department, and one of the captains used to be my neighbor. (Plus, I know the chief medic's wife and MiL.)
* Rape? Do you know how much Animal Planet I watch? I feel fairly certain I could castrate a guy with an HDMI cable by now, especially if my fat butt is planted on his chest during the process.
Caller asks me to verify the last four of my SSN.
'Scuse you? I was born on a Tuesday, but not last Tuesday.
"Okay, what about [address]?"
"That's fine."
"That's fine, as in you've lived there or received mail there?"
"Yes. Now who are you trying to collect for? It's not Sallie Mae (I keep forgetting to call them Navient)--they say they don't use you. It's not another debt, because I know who holds that one. So who is it?"
"[School]."
"I don't owe them any money."
Something like, "we have a dispute process".
"Good."
"Good?"
"Yeah. Get to it. [*hangs up*]" (As in "you have my snail mail address, hurry up and send me the paperwork.")
Bet tomorrow's person will say, "You didn't finish your conversation with [rep]!"
"What part of 'get to it' don't you understand? This is the last time I'm answering the phone for you. Send me the paperwork or don't, I don't give a damn. This number is going to be blocked when you call back, anyhow."- Caller: Conserv
