- very mad replies to DPDmy husband and i got a call from these people BrownMeyers and Associates...saying that we had to pay an overdue debt of 900.00. First, some guy called about 2 days prior and left voicemail saying he had made attempts to "serve" my husband with a lawsuit on behalf of Brown Meyers and Associates. THis was was already a red flag b/c we have had the same address. Then, 2 days later calls started again..they said they were representing an EZ LOAN company. They also said they would be willing to settle for around 300.00 if we paid that same day with a pre-paid debit card over the phone or western union. We asked them to send bill over e-mail. The e-mail document did not look professional. We started to call this EZ Loan company and they said they had no record of us oweing them any money whatsoever. When those idiots called us again requested payment immediately, we told them we were not gonna send them any money as advised by EZ Loan company who had alerted us as well that it was probably a scan. The guy on the phone was like...."uh....I'll call you right back". Then, some lady calls and she was pissed off. She said "oh, so now youre not gonna pay us?! you think we're idiots?! youre gonna get sued!!" and she hung up.

- Concerned ConsumerIf this company is legitimate it sure does not act like it is. They refuse to give their address! What kind of law office refuses to divulge their address? Perhaps one that is a scam. Report Brown, Meyer & Associates (813) 261-1150 immediately to the (www.FTC.gov), Florida Attorney General (www.myfloridalegal.com) and the Florida Office of Financial Regulation (www.flofr.com/Director/complaints.htm).
Debt collectors in Florida must be registered and Brown, Meyers and Associates is not registered as a collection agency.

- william replies to tami| 1 replyWhat practices are off limits for debt collectors?
Harassment. Debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse you or any third parties they contact. For example, they may not:
* use threats of violence or harm;
* publish a list of names of people who refuse to pay their debts (but they can give this information to the credit reporting companies);
* use obscene or profane language; or
* repeatedly use the phone to annoy someone.
False statements. Debt collectors may not lie when they are trying to collect a debt. For example, they may not:
* falsely claim that they are attorneys or government representatives;
* falsely claim that you have committed a crime;
* falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit reporting company;
* misrepresent the amount you owe;
* indicate that papers they send you are legal forms if they aren’t; or
* indicate that papers they send to you aren’t legal forms if they are.
Debt collectors also are prohibited from saying that:
* you will be arrested if you don’t pay your debt;
* they’ll seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages unless they are permitted by law to take the action and intend to do so; or
* legal action will be taken against you, if doing so would be illegal or if they don’t intend to take the action.
Debt collectors may not:
* give false credit information about you to anyone, including a credit reporting company;
* send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency if it isn’t; or
* use a false company name.
Unfair practices. Debt collectors may not engage in unfair practices when they try to collect a debt. For example, they may not:
* try to collect any interest, fee, or other charge on top of the amount you owe unless the contract that created your debt – or your state law – allows the charge;
* deposit a post-dated check early;
* take or threaten to take your property unless it can be done legally; or
* contact you by postcard.
Where do I report a debt collector for an alleged violation?
Report any problems you have with a debt collector to your state Attorney General’s office (www.naag.org) and the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov). Many states have their own debt collection laws that are different from the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Your Attorney General’s office can help you determine your rights under your state’s law.

- dwallace replies to Linda Reesethese people are idiots. They will stop calling if you tell them you have filed a complaint with the FTC, FCC, FBI, local and county offices in the State they do business in as well as your local police department, county and State. They will bully and threaten you and your family. The buy debt for pennies on the dollar and then try to collect on it and NONE of the money goes back to the originator of the debt in the first place (if it is even a valid past due debt to begin with - in most instances the debt is not even yours). If you have already given out your cking acct number or debit acct number. File a police report and take that report to your banking institution. They will refuse any further charges from this debt collector and in some cases refund all or a portion of the money you have paid to date. Then change your checking account number and get a new debit card issued immediately. Trust me, you will never hear from this particular group of bottom feeders again. But wait......you will hear from a totally separate group of bottom feeders again in the future. This makes the third attys office which has contacted me regarding the debt I supposedly owe. I don't and will not fall for this crap a second or third time even.
- YoYoMa'sCousin-LittleNepatizThese fruits....they are not lawyers and are more stupid still because this is not even the collections process.
I used t work in collections law. The firm has to send you a "dunning" letter through certified mail stating the balance of the alleged money owed. Once this occurs, then they can file a complaint with the court system and may receive a docket number. None of this can be complete if the letter is not sent/received by the alleged offender. They have nothing to hold over you, so don't be duped.
They started calling my parents house and then somehow got my cell phone number. They call every other day before 9 am. Ignorant and unprofessional. I finally called them back because I'm sick of that man and woman filling up my message box...
I told the lady that I've never taken a payday loan and they have no business with me. She suggested that it was identity theft and I told her no and to stop calling me. I also shared that I do not appreciate her calling so early and that they have no business with me as of this time. She said "ok" and hung up. I called back and spoke to a supervisor. I got their address and am planning to file a complaint to my states attorney and the NY states attorney. Please do the same if these [***] are harrassing you and your family too:
